Prince Harry Fighting In Afghanistan

Fair play to him yes - but why should it be anything different?

If he gets killed then expect plenty of tax payers money being spent on an inquest.

Just read the sun and the 11 (ELEVEN) pages full of toss about Harry on the front line.

Why should he get 11 pages of coverage because he's fighting on the front line? Why doesn't every other soldier get 11 pages of coverage. It's an absolute joke, and i think a tad patronising to the others that are out there, doing exactly the same job as him.

He's in the public eye. It happens.

Celebrity goes out, gets pis sed, shags a hooker and it's massive news and his Mr Evil.

We do it and it's a bloody good night out and a story to share with the lads.

The Royal family piss me off.

Especially Harry, he's just a piss head pot smoker that pretty much gets to do what the f**k he want's

Do you fancy a go at fighting on the front line in Afghanistan?

How is his behaviour in terms of getting pissed/stoned any different to most other 23-year-olds? But unlike the ASBO generation he doesn't just sit around all day watching Jeremy Kyle, drinking Strongbow and selling crack to 11-year-olds, he'd rather shoot Talebanis for his granny than grannies for their pension.

I'm going to join and anti prince Harry group on facebook.

The point is - Why should he get front page/headline news for doing the same thing as 1000's of other troops?

The poor news hacks have been storing this up for 10 weeks now, of course they're going to go all out when they can finally print all the backlog of stuff they've got.

The answer to your question is no. Hence I didn't choose a career in the army.

I just get pissed off at the fact he gets so much hype about him fighting in Afghanistan, compared with however many other thousands of soldiers out there, wheres the news for them?

It really hits home that when an 'ordinary' soldier dies they get a column inch, and when Harry is just 'out there' he gets numerous pages and pages of coverage in the tabloids.

It's not right, it's the media's fault however.

That's your point, That wasn't tom's point. His was what my post was aimed at, he was just ranting about how Harry goes out, gets pissed, smokes weed and does what the fu ck he wants.

I'm sure there have been hundreds of stories and front page articles describing what the rest of the troops have been doing over the past 5 1/2 years of conflict out there, maybe not about individuals, but what they're collectively doing. It's just that none of them have been 'celebrities'. Whether that's right or not is a different matter.

Eleven pages on one soldier? Don't think so.

I've got a burning desire of hatred towards prince Harry - and perhaps this was the opportunity and the place to vent it

So if it's the media's fault, and I agree it is, what's your beef with Harry?

I'm fairly certain he'd like nothing better than for the media to leave him alone and let him get on with his job. He chose a career in the Army and has expressed his desire to be posted to places like Iraq and Afghanistan and treated just like any other soldier would, it's not his fault that the media want to make a massive thing of it.

Interesting how in the next bit of my post I said exactly that, but you didn't bother highlighting that.

We've all made fashion faux pas, I once bought a pair of red Yves Saint Laurent jeans. Not sure why I'm sharing that information, but never mind!

That was what you put. I don't see why they should have a backlog of stuff just for him though.

They may be shocking as far as the contents of your wardrobe goes, but they're hardly deeply offensive to a significant proportion of the population. Pretty major difference, in my opinion, and therefore a pointless comparision.

Other soldiers are forever making headlines, locally and nationally.

Yes, but only for doing heroic things or unfortunately dying whilst serving. Not the case here. Just because it's Prince Harry, there's a big thing about it.

Nor do I. It was a sarcastic comment.

I agree with you that this media frenzy is totally inappropriate, they don't do it for each and every soldier, but because Harry is part of the royal family it's big news. It's not right, but that's unfortunately how it goes.

It wasn't supposed to be a comparison. I'm well aware there's a whole world of difference. I was trying to make a light-hearted comment about it. It doesn't appear to have been well-received so apologies for that.

Soldiers are headlines for the opposite of heroic things too and like it or not the activities of the Royal Family is of massive interest to lots of people in this country as illustrated by the attendance and coverage of the Princess of Wales funeral and continued interest in the circumstances of her death.

Prince Harry has been the subject of enough bad or indifferent press and, the security aspects apart, I don't see why he shouldn't be credited with doing something that does him credit although the extent of the coverage seems a big extreme.

Prince Andrew had plenty of Press when he flew his helicopter in the Falkland conflict and Prince Edward too when he abandoned his military career.

If you've no interest in the Royal Family or have political objections to their supposedly privileged life then why not just ignore the coverage?

But I doubt it is more extensive than if Gordon Brown suddenly turned up to fight with the troops in Afghanistan, which is hardly likely of course.

Well that's exactly what everyone under 23 does.
