Sheringham to retire from professional football

The sort of genuinely skilled and intelligent footballer we never seem to require in the first team anymore - and we don't loan/purchase them either until they're fast passing their sell-by date.

A real gem.

What a footballer hope he bangs in a couple more to end his carreer on top so we all remember him the we should as a great player

The Champions League final against Bayern Munich 9 years ago will always be remembered as one of his most clever performances.

I watched the game, thought the goddamn Bavarians would actually nick it in the usual undeserving fashion.

Then ManU pulled the trigger and killed them off... Thanks to Sheringham and Solskjaer.

Needless to say, I ended up jubilating all over the place.

What a thriller that game was. One of the best, most intriguing and tense televised football matches I've ever seen (apart from Liverpool - Alaves maybe).

And even up to this day, watching replays of it make me very emotional.

how many minutes did he play in that? I know he scored but to say its one of his finest performances in such a long career is a bit off.

One of his finest moments yes.

Oi, don't spoil my Teddy tribute thread! :@

Alright, it was only about 25 minutes all in all.

The man seemed to invent his own position - how many times have you heard 'The Sheringham Role' mentioned in footballing lingo.

I think he could go on to be a good coach. Great footballing brain and appears to be genuinly nice guy.

Thats a point. For some reason I can see his and Tony Adams faces merging into one in my head and now I suddenly see him heading off for a staff role at Portsmouth under Redknapp next season.

A true pro and an absolute legend. One of THE class acts of the modern game. I'd love to see Teddy as a manager.

What a player. Good luck in the future Ted.

He's gone about retirement in the right way I think, slowly bought his career to a close.
