Stoke pre-match banter

For me the chance on our part has gone. It was there for the taking yesterday, everything was set-up perfectly. We didn't take it, and not only that, we lost our captain and best defender. All the signs are pointing to a loss and all eyes on the Saints!

As much as I'd like to say we are going to win, I just can't see it.

Come next Sunday we'll all have our eye's on the Southampton game. I think that could be the deciding factor on if we go down or not, whether Southampton beat Sheff United.

The bird that decided to shit on me on the way back to the station yesterday will save our season. Fact.

I'm actually buzzing with nerves and excitment already. This week at school at Saturday at work is going to go very slowly. In terms of the game I don't know what to expect, it depends entirely on what Leicester turns up. The 4-1 win at West Brom Leicester or the 3-1 defeat by Wednesday / 1-1 draw with Colchester Leicester. I hope and pray Ollie gets them up for it and they go for it. The squad is capable, whether or not they'll do it or not is a different story.

This league is so up and down that there is every chance you can beat Stoke. I'm sitting here as an Owl after a week of doom and gloom following a diabolical performance in losing at Blackpool 2-1. There were posters all over town showing their manager, Grayson, imploring Blackpool fans to cheer them to victory in their most vital game for years. We just didn't show up and there we were in the bottom 3 again. I gave us no chance going down to the Walkers, after your first goal and our penalty miss I gave us even less chance. Yet look what happened! And to cap it all every result went the way we wanted it to. Hull scored with 5 mins to go so now Stoke and WBA have to get something from remaining games, Blades won so now believe they can still get in the play-offs against Saints instead of relaxing into getting us relegated. I couldn't have imagined a better scenario. So now I sit here all happy, clappy that we might be staying up but deep down I won't believe it to the end of play next Sunday. There are no nailed on results in this division. Do you know how we felt when your result at WBA came through? Cheated! You had no right! So keep the faith, anything could still happen and you are good enough to beat a poor Stoke side. I just hope you don't put us down and that we meet next season. Good luck!

correct me if i'm wrong (i've not been able to get on here the last week) but we've sold all our tickets right?

Wrong. We have a squad capable of doing that. Our results against the big teams this year have been no fluke. Our manager is not getting the level that is there out of the players consistantly. If he did, we wouldn't be in this position.

I'm already completely shitting it. Sunday could be horrible, at the moment I am fearing the worst. I beg to god that we go there and win, I can't begin to imagine the celebrations, so I wont! If it comes down to us staying up because of Southampton then there we go! The way this league is, it's not even worth trying to figure out what will happen.

There is no point going into why we're in this posistion, I just find it unbelievable. Some of the most pessimistic people on this board were predicting mid table as our worst possible finish this year. But for some reason or another we're on the brink of dropping to the lowest point in our history.

I'm begging that we get some extra tickets, some of my mates who haven't got tickets don't deserve to be put through Barber for 90 minutes of the most nervous football in our history. I hope they're there with us!

I don't care who you do it for, but for ****s sake, the squad that travels to Stoke, just ****ing do it.

i think what he meant was due to league position we had no right to beat them.

on paper we have a good squad capable of much more..

un fortunately football is played on grass..

I was being tongue in cheek about you having no right - that was just how it felt to us at the time, how on earth did that happen etc etc. I'm sure many thought the same about yesterday's result with you and us. Fact is everyone can beat everyone in this league and I know how you must be feeling cos I had the same last week. Anything can still happen.

ta

were we given quite a small allocation? what with there possible promotion

We were allowed up to 4,500 but our club opted against it.

If I'm honest with myself, I resigned myself to relegation after we failed to gain all three points against Colchester a couple of weeks ago.

Yet, come what may, I'll be there next season, in the city I love, cheering the team I love, surrounded by folk who feel the same way.

Incidentally, if the worst does happen you might just enjoy your stay in League 1 as long as it is fairly short. Many Wednesdayites will testify that the greatest day in their football supporting lives wasn't the Wembley Cup Finals or beating the Blades in 1993 in the Semi at Wembley but the 4-2 Play-Off final victory at the Millennium Stadium against Hartlepool. It could be fun! (We've sampled it so please let it be someone else's turn!! )

eh?! how come?? are we sure of that?

so how many have we got?

If the word from Stoke fans are true then yes we are sure. That also coincides with the law of this league. We're certainly entitled to 2,800 and it's our club that opted for the smaller allocation.

1,600 it was we've ended up with.

I can't wait. In less than 168 hours time I shall be getting ready to go out and celebrate staying up at Quids at the Loaded Dog. Anyone in?

I really hope the match is on Sky.

It's got to be between showing our game or the Ipswich Hull game.

Hull can still make automatic promotion, Ipswich can still make the play offs.

I will be shocked if they show Southampton V Sheffield United or Sheffield Wednesday V Norwich.

Theres also Blackpool V Watford, although Blackpool are basically safe if Southampton lose Monday as they are 3 points clear of Southampton with a far better goal difference.

They are the only 5 games where both teams in each match still have something to play for.

Our game certainly seems the most watchable, a recentish former Premiership club possibly needing a win to stay up, against a club needing a result to gurantee automatic promotion and a win could see them win the Championship.

The other main contender would be Ipswich V Hull, a win for Ipswich could see them into the playoffs, a win for Hull could see them up.

It has to be our game, just has to be.

I didn't mention anything about having a low allocation, so why did you quote me?

2 matches will be shown on Sky on Sunday, and viewers will get a choice. It's likely to be Stoke vs City and Ipswich vs Hull.
