samingram_uk Posted 17 May 2008 Posted 17 May 2008 Do you think he ever reads what we put back in reply??
Finchy Posted 17 May 2008 Posted 17 May 2008 Yeah, he's probably crying at his computer desk right now! Or, what's more likely, he's out in Hinckley rummaging through tat in Age concern.
Matt Posted 17 May 2008 Posted 17 May 2008 I was just looking for a cheap Man Utd shirt to wear on Thursday should United win to wind the Chelsea fan I know up. Found one for 10 quid and it was signed by Rooney (The seller claimed it was real and had a COA and claimed the shirt was official - Not sure to believe him though) anyway I bidded for it, Killing 2 birds with one stone - Getting a shirt to potentially wind someone up (Who's been winding me up all season) and a signed Rooney shirt...Got outbidded by 50p

Thracian Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 I never scan E-Bay listings any more, not even for current valuations. However, I'm always looking for stuff. I'm particularly interested in gold, silver, quantities of costume jewellery, Dinky's, Corgi's and tinplate toys, OO-guage and other railway items, Moorcroft, and other quality ceramics. paintings, antiquarian books, bronze and metalwares, netsukes, anything of deco or art nouvelle design, interesting old tools, radios, old advertising, notable ephemera, old postcards, collections of almost anything. Just PM me if you've anything of interest.

Thracian Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 I bet Thracs house is full of junk little curiosities. Only so far as they're in transit. I don't collect anything. They are all commodities. I value my wife, my kids, my health and my freedom to spend my days as I choose. Objects are, in the first place a source of considerable passing interest. I am continually learning things as a result. But after that they're simply a means of earning a living. It's a form of hunting if you like and one that suits me cos I'm not one for killing animals. Within the business I value the comeraderie I've built up with dealers and collectors all over the country far more than the potential price of any item. The anecdotes are endless and sharing them on a balmy summer's evening over a bottle or two of wine is a wonderful way of passing the time. I guess the Lovejoy series best summed it up. No two days and no two deals are the same but there always seems to be something to get the adrenalin going.

Beating old woman out of there valuables and reselling at extortant prices! Im after you sonny jim fellow me lad! Those proverbial "little old ladies" you refer to are usually as sharp as brand new razor blades in reality - and as plausible as they are ruthless. I'd sooner buy off the trade to be truthful. As for "exhorbitant" sell ons I can only lament "if only". Most dealers would take an instant 50% out of any purchase.
