Motorbikes are brilliant

Recommended Posts

I've always fancied taking a trip to the TT but never got round to it. I think it must take some planning given it's popularity. The place must be at bursting point when it's on.

I'll just have to settle for the back roads around Northants and Leicestershire for the time being. If you squint a bit, some of the roads around Rutland resemble the IOM.

Planing is the easy bit, paying for it is the painfull part, but I think its worth the effort at least once. The island is indeed bursting when its on and dont bother squinting on the roads just find a farm track and ride on that, it will feel the same as the islands roads do at the minute. Potholes are not GSXR'S friends.

Just some drink drivers

Ah, that's ok then - what a relief. :sweating:

Anyone driving who's upset / just walked out on their partner / not had 8 hours sleep / putting their make-up on? :dunno::whistle:

I sold my VFR 800 last week <img src="http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

I had to pack up motorcycling as it was only a matter of time before somebody knocked me off and with a wife, four children and a football team to support, I'm sticking to the car or public transport from now on.

A bit gutted really as I really enjoyed riding but at the end of the day, there's just too many people on the roads who don't pay enough attention to their surroundings. I can be as safe and sensible as I possibly can and try and anticipate potential accidents but there always seem to be someone in a car, truck, bus whatever prepared to use their mobile, check their make-up, gel their hair, chat with passengers, ignore lane discipline on roundabouts etc rather than concentrate on driving.

Yep, motorbikes are brilliant!

Ex-biker,

Isle of Wight Fox.

With my Mum living on the island we spend a bit of time there and have to say the quality of driving is pretty attrocious. Whether its all the old dears or what I dont know but we noticed it quite early on lol

I think I'll be taking a few trips around Northants, Leicestershire and Rutland through easter any advice for good routes.

Yeah Ive got some........ avoid Blue Ford Focuses!

That was made for bikes! I haven't been on here for a little while, have you still got your Guzzi? Edit: I've just read back through the thread - you have a Harley? Wasn't that a swear word in your household at some stage?

It's about time I met some of you FT'ers. Give me a shout when you're planning on being in the area.

I tend to start off from my home town, Rothwell, Nothants and take the A6003 from Kettering, through Rockingham and Oakham. From there, the A606 takes you straight into Melton Mowbray. It can be done in about 30 mins if you really push it or 45 - 1 hour at a relaxed pace.

From there, I tend to use Daggers Mario's road on the way back.

I don't think my NTV650 or relaxed (read very slow) riding style would keep up with you but I'll pm you when I plan a trip out, I've family in Kettering so that could be a start point. Dave lost the Guzzi love when it let him down for the 85th time you can follow his blog here http://harley-dave.blogspot.com/

I tend to save the warp speeds for my trackdays! Besides, I'm still running my new bike in and am limited to 7,000 revs. Slow pace is good for me

Not for the first time, I should point out that all of my opinions are worthless: I hated Harleys as much as I despised iPhones, iTunes and Apple computers. :D

Getting me something nimbler to run alongside it (once we've moved house), not commuting on the behemoth.

A nimbler partner sounds good! Anything is mind?

If you still like to indulge in the 'occasional' petrol bombing (I know we all do from time to time, you get how it is, one gets ejected from a bar and says to the doormen, "Your dead, I'll come back and petrol bomb your asses" Though you feel that even then, there are so many variables to conquer in your drunken condition that in the recesses of your mind with 'impaired' decision making, co-ordination and judgement all may not go as envisaged.......) one's new run-around motorcycle should be as fire resistant as possible.

Mr. Kempes, I recommend this retardant little go'er:

Cheap, throwable, no plastic to break and middleweight - ER5/GS500/CB500/Diversion

And if I couold find one - I'd have another GPz305 in a shot as it remains one of the best bikes I've ever owned.

Will your next bike break as often as that ornamental thing you had last?

Wasn't that a belt drive. What you need is a nice ZX6R

The later model, I had an earlier chain one. Metalwork was paper-thin though, corroded faster than P'boro Fox changes his mind during a match.

I can't stand the quantity of plastic on a race-rep, or the riding position. Something like a CBF1000 is more my style but well excessive as a commuter.

Nah, it'll be something I can find as cheap as chips which I won't mind lobbing down an icy road.

Me Dad has a 900 Hornet? Not sure if that's the type of thing you're looking for, and no idea about the price?
