England v USA

I think it says a lot about the state of our game at the moment that we find that John Terry is not England captain material. It's a sad state of affairs at the moment. I just hope to god that Capello can sort out this bunch of twats.

The attitude of a lot of English players really does stink, a lot to do with the club sides they play for and foreign attitues being more relevant in the Premiership.

I'd for Hargreaves, if he's going to maintain a place in the side, but even he's not perfect.

When I was younger, and football played a far bigger part in my life, I would have agreed with you. But as I've got older, it just doesn't matter as much. I'm still passionate about the game, but thats all it is, a game.

Yeah but you don't earn a living from said game. And spend most days for the best part of 20 years playing said game, which he will have done by the time he ends his career.

What? Did he get a pay cut from missing that penalty then? No, thought not.

If anything, it would make you care less, earning a living from it.

That moment could have defined his life, and got a trophy to lift and medal to keep too.

I can fully understand why he was bawling.

But he's going to earn a living out of it regardless. So I don't see why you bought earning a living into it.

Because Lee said it doesn't play as much a part of his life as it did when he was younger, I was just trying to show that football plays a HUGE part of Terry's life.

I don't like to see grown men crying over a game of football but I don't think that makes him a bad person.

John Terry is a born leader, the type that is all too rare in English football today. Imo he deserves his turn as captain tomorrow.

I see where you're coming from now, mate.

I still don't think he's the man to captain our country, we've had enough bottlers through the years.

Yeah i'm not great with this actual debating lark. I'm not used to seriousness.

Bottlers though? Why do you call him a bottler, because he missed the penalty or for another reason?

If it's the former then I think it's very harsh.

Not just the former, although it didn't really help his case.

The way he conducts himself on the pitch is not entirely role model material, which is what I think you look for in an England captain. He's a great player, but I reckon his attitude needs to move away from the Chelsea one. Maybe Capello can grind that into him.

Well yeah, he was a better captain a few years ago because he didn't do that as much.

But like someone else just said, he's a born leader. There is a reason why he was made Chelsea captain and England captain.

Not that i'd mind Rio getting the armband either.

It is. John Terry is a grown man. It was a football match. Its pathetic.

Twat. Say if you missed the penalty that could save Leicester from relegation, would you cry, I would and I'm sure many others would but if you don't then it just shows how much you care about your team.

USA last 6 matches:

W4 L1 D1 Scored 11 Conceded 6

Their loss was to Brazil (who they put 2 past), and they beat Sweden 2-0 in that time. Suddenly the 7/1 for them to beat England looks very tempting.

Nah, USA would probably never get to the World Cup if they played with the Brazilians and Argies as they should but instead they play with the likes of Barbados, like if it was that easy Leicester could play in the World Cup. And with a captain like Carlos Bocanegra they hardly have any world-beaters. They are a poor team and if England really go for it I reckon a 3-0 win.

It shows nothing of the sort. I care about my team a lot in footballing terms. But I leave my crying for important stuff, like bereavement, the end of a relationship perhaps, things that actually matter in life. Football doesn't matter a jot in the grand scheme of things. Its a game. Nothing more. That you resort to personal insults because I disagree with you is a reflection on your intelligence levels I think.

For John Terry football IS his life. If you were a football player then football would be most of your life. Put yourself in John Terry's shoes, a massive Chelsea fan, football is your life, your about to take the penalty that would win your beloved team the Champions League and... you slip and miss. What would you do? Walk off, not giving a shit? Stearman was gutted and in tears after we got relegated, it is the atmosphere and the moment that takes you over. And maybe I do disagree and resort to personal insults - got a problem? And how can you question my intelligence levels, you've never even met me! >_< Just shows what happens when you're from Coventry.

No I'm not.

I'm not suggesting he shouldn't give a shit. But there are far more important things in life. Perhaps John Terry should ask Frank Lampard about that?

And football is not Terry's life. It's his job. He is a married man with a family. That should be his life. If it isn't, then he has very serious issues with his priorities.

Your not from Coventry  Then why does it say your from Coventry and you have Cov in your name

Of course family is more important to football but you are clearly not listening (and you question my intelligence levels  ) but I am trying to say that if you have such a love for football then emotions are always going to get the better of you.

How do you know John Terry's life isn't about football. You can have a family aswell as loving football. Rooney, Gerrard, etc. all sleep, eat, live football. And so are you saying that Rooney and Gerrard have serious issues?

They come across that way in the media. They are supposed to come across that way. Although I don't doubt that they love the game, don't be so naive as to believe it isn't all just a little stage managed. And don't ask me how I know that John Terry's life isn't about football, then seemingly tell me thay you know that Rooney and Gerrard's lives are. It's a little hypocritical.

Also, John Terry wasn't crying because Chelsea didn't win the Champion's League. He was crying because it was him that missed the penalty that could have won the trophy. Self pity, nothing more. As for loving the club, I'd love anything that was willing to pay me the wage that he is on. I simply no longer have any faith that footballers at that level give a toss about the game or the fans. How can John Terry understand what it means to truly love a football club, given the money that he has made out of the game. He and his ilk are far too disconnected for that, and have been for some time.

For ****s Sake!!!!!!!! I stopped reading there because obviously your the unintelligent one here. Did I not in an earlier example say imagine you missed the penalty that could keep you up from relegation (can also be applied to a Champions League final!) I am not going to bother speaking to you anymore and I've remembered why you've been on my ignore list for a long time.

i just wanna see a decent footy match

...what are the chances of that??

No chance at all where England are concerned. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see us lose tonight, although I think we'll scrape through with a 1-0 win.

There are always going to be more important things though, that's like saying "I have syphilis but at least I don't have aids". People cry at films and books etc, are they pathetic too?
