gosfox Posted 18 May 2008 Posted 18 May 2008 Congrats to Leicester Tigers on spoiling the odds and beating Gloucester in a determined, dogged display in todays playoff semi-finals..... it is the first time since the playoffs started that an away side has won... I know some on here scoff at the Tigers, but I am a supporter of all Leicester Sport, So good luck in the final, lets take the sting from them Wasps!!! I'm sure if LCFC had shown half as much will to win during the last season they wouldn't be where they are now

C-man Posted 18 May 2008 Posted 18 May 2008 To be honest the playoff system they have is a farce. Agreed, it's profited Tigers before and been the downfall of them too. This season, Tigers have been diabolical at times this season, barely deserved to get into the play-offs and now have a chance to win the damn thing.
gosfox Posted 18 May 2008 Author Posted 18 May 2008 To be honest the playoff system they have is a farce. I totally agree, the playoff system is a complete and utter farce..... when a team has slogged through a tough season to finish top of the league, then to find themselves in a knockout competition is crazy, but as has been said Tigers have suffered the negative side of this system themselves...... so its about time at least one Leicester club got a little luck
Finchy Posted 18 May 2008 Posted 18 May 2008 Well if you remember they actually brought that rule in originally to stop Tigers winning it every season, so tbh i don't mind Tigers taking advantage of it when they've had a bad season. It's such a ridiculous rule. Can we have a permanent Tigers thread btw?
Bryn Posted 18 May 2008 Posted 18 May 2008 Am I right in thinking that 6 teams qualify for these playoffs? Or is that wrong? If I'm right, that's obscene.
Sparky Posted 18 May 2008 Posted 18 May 2008 4 qualify , In fairness the one thing the play offs do have to the "better" clubs is that with a fair few top sides losing as many as 12/15 players for a month in November and 6 weeks in February and it give clubs the chance back any points they may have lost due to call ups and it seems to be widely accepted by clubs now . Fair play to the Tigers , wrote off even by their coach and come back and make the final with a fantastic 2nd half comeback . Roll on the final and wipe the smirk of Dallaglios face in what is his last game before retirement
LeeCovFox Posted 18 May 2008 Posted 18 May 2008 Four teams qualify. Out of 12 I believe though. Which means a third of the league get a shot at winning the league when the season finishes.

Finnegan Posted 18 May 2008 Posted 18 May 2008 I've disagreed with the play-off system since they made it the only way to be crowned champions. Money grabbing shit, really. I do feel sorry for Gloucester. Amazing job by the Tigers, though. They've been dire this season by their own standards, to be honest. Fantastic to see them in the final - hope they shag Wasps, I hate Dallers.

RowlattsFox Posted 18 May 2008 Posted 18 May 2008 Yeah but what about my mate Goodey . I feel Goode His first two kicks in the first half were hilarious but he was excellent 2nd half. Andy Goode frustrates me, he can be superb or very poor. Tuilangi(sp) is a beast.
Finchy Posted 18 May 2008 Posted 18 May 2008 Tuilangi(sp) is a beast. The way he just smashed that guy with his hand when he got his try was fantastic, he's a machine!
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 May 2008 Posted 18 May 2008 Wel done Tigers. Was reading the Sunday Times this morning and all that was printed was that bellcheese Stuart Barnes' comments about how they dont stand a chance in hell. Well, stick it up your arse.

You can NEVER write off Tigers, no matter who they play they are always capable of thrashing anyone.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 May 2008 Posted 18 May 2008 You can NEVER write off Tigers, no matter who they play they are always capable of thrashing anyone. You can if you're Stuart Barnes and your dick is up Danny Cipriani.
Finnegan Posted 19 May 2008 Posted 19 May 2008 I cannot describe how immense it felt to watch Tuilangi absolutely murder Vainikolo for his try.
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 19 May 2008 Posted 19 May 2008 I totally agree, the playoff system is a complete and utter farce..... when a team has slogged through a tough season to finish top of the league, then to find themselves in a knockout competition is crazy, but as has been said Tigers have suffered the negative side of this system themselves...... so its about time at least one Leicester club got a little luck This is such an association football point of view. Many leagues around the world (apart from your Union) view the winner of playoffs to be superior than the one finishing top of the league. It certainly makes an entertaining end to the season. I for one am for example far more interested in who wins the FA Cup over who wins the Premier League.
LeeCovFox Posted 19 May 2008 Posted 19 May 2008 How can a side who may have only just hit form for the play offs be superior to one who has consistently proven themselves to be the best over the course of a long season? I agree that play offs do bring an element of excitement, but I don't agree that they should be the basis of judging the superiority of a team.

Well in that case, then all association playoffs are a farce and the top three teams should go up. Boring
LeeCovFox Posted 19 May 2008 Posted 19 May 2008 Well in that case, then all association playoffs are a farce and the top three teams should go up.Boring I don't think that it is boring. I don't like the promotion play offs we have in England, I would rather that we had a four up, four down arrangement as they used to in Italy.
gosfox Posted 19 May 2008 Author Posted 19 May 2008 Well in that case, then all association playoffs are a farce and the top three teams should go up.Boring There are NO football playoffs, that I know of, where the top four clubs enter a competition to decide who are the champions of the league at the end of the season.... if you are refering to the English league playoffs, then these are for third place only and the right to join the 1st and 2nd placed teams who have already been promoted due to their LEAGUE position. Remember that before the football playoffs were introduced only the top two teams got promoted so whoever finished third would remain in the lower league anyway.... The Rugby Union playoffs are, as has already been said, just a money making excersise .... they may well be exciting but hardly fair on the team that has actually won the league, as the Tigers have found to there cost on previous occasions. So good luck to them now that the boot is on the other foot

Tigers were the only team to vote no in the whole league.
