MikeyT Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 SPOILERS AHEAD Just been to Meridian to see the New Indiana Jones movie. I am a masive fan of the series and have been waiting for this new movie since 1989 when the last one was released. I dont think i've looked forward to a release of a movie as much as this ever before. The movie started out really promising and it had everything you could want from an Indiana Jones movie including lots of acrion, clever one liners action and plenty of humour. It unfortunately didnt stay that way. The last approximately 35-40 minutes of the movie just went silly with over the top and embarrassing things happening all the time, all stemming from a car chase in the jungle till the end of the movie. If i had to give it a rating out of 10 i think maybe 5.5/6 would be fair, this only being based on the first 3 quarters of the movie. This is defiantely the worst out of the 4 movies in the series so far If anyone else has seen it yet, what did you think of the movie? And do you agree with me? What are your own views?
billabob Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008 i would have to agree with you to be honest. i was quite dissappointed from the tarzan moment onwards. the whole film was just missing something but i can't put my finger on it. 6/10
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008 I was never going to see it even if you gave it 10/10, but now i feel vindicated

And the sword fighting on the moving cars against Cate Blanchett! Oh dear. Whats was Mr. Speilberg thinging with those two errors!
MikeyT Posted 24 May 2008 Author Posted 24 May 2008 I was never going to see it even if you gave it 10/10, but now i feel vindicated Not a fan in general then i'm guessing? I still think Raiders Of The Lost Ark is one of the best movies ever and if they had kept to that sort of thing the movie would have been great!

Whats was Mr. Speilberg thinging with those two errors! Lets be fair, what was he thinking with the plot with the other beings! no need for it. Also why did the monkeys not attack indys car or the lad, after all th lad was in there tree house not the russians!

Also why did the monkeys not attack indys car or the lad, after all th lad was in there tree house not the russians! I know i agree. When you think it has taken near on 20 years to come up with a script and plot the entire team involved in the Indiana Jones movies are happy with (so it says in interviews ive read) and this is the best they can do, you have to wonder what the hell went wrong along the way. Its also kinda set up for, i hate to say it but, Shia Labouf (sp?) to take over Indiana Jones's role. Who thought at the end when he went to go and put Indy's hat on that "oh dear this numpty will be taking over the coverted role". I personally hate the lad and believe there must be a better actor out there to take over the role, if indeed thats what Spielberg and the rest of the creators have in mind.

Well i'v heard that Harrison will do another if they sort it out pretty quickly for him. I don't like the lad very much either, Indianna jones is Harrison Ford, no-one else and they shouldn't do a star wars and just keep going with it. There have been 4 now, thats dam good for a set of films so they should'nt ruin it!
Jay Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008 the thing is I always see at is a sense of desperation to drag something back up that you finished over 20 years ago it shows a lack of ideas and imagination in someone like Gerorge Lucas, it's taking a massive success and filling it with very average ideas to use it's past reputation as a guaranteed selling point. seems exactly what has gone on here

I've been to the movies twice in the last 6 years and it really isn't my sort of film anyway
Alexikokopops Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008 Ah yes the "tarzan" moment! And the sword fighting on the moving cars against Cate Blanchett! Oh dear. Whats was Mr. Speilberg thinging with those two errors! This is it, the bits which were Indiana Jones-esque were brilliant, a bit of slightly ridiculous action is always necessary. The Tarzan moment/sword fighting between cars/when they drove off the cliff and landed in the tree before sliding gently in the river were just too ridiculous by far. And the whole concept was really ridiculous. Its also kinda set up for, i hate to say it but, Shia Labouf (sp?) to take over Indiana Jones's role. Who thought at the end when he went to go and put Indy's hat on that "oh dear this numpty will be taking over the coverted role". I've nothing against Shia LeBoeuf (or however you spell it), but I was having kittens when I saw him pick up that hat. Harrison Ford is the only Jones.

MC Prussian Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008 I think the general issue here (and with other sequels) is that the creators see that the initial concept does make money at the box office. The movie title, the (usually same) plot as well as the actors have created some sort of cult following. Their recipe is that you can take those ingredients, put them in a bottle and shake them in order to make a satisfying dish that is able to repeat the trick and lure innocent/dumb/desperate audience into the theatres, making more money. It doesn't really work that way. Most sequels fail miserably, compared to the first (and usually most original) predecessor. George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are definitely pros at creating "family friendly" and entertaining, yet also a little shallow movies. Their older movies are classics, but already Spielberg started a hype with "Jaws" (although he had hardly anything to do with the crap spin-offs that followed). As long as Hollywood measures success in dollars, there's no need to stop them. Am I going to see the new "Indiana Jones"? I doubt it.
sdb Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008 Shia Lebouf is a quality actor!!! Even Stevens - legendary!!!
General Smuts Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008 Shia Lebouf is a quality actor!!!Even Stevens - legendary!!! If that knobjockey picked up and wore the Indy hat i would have burned the place down. Other than Shia Le RubberFace there was only 2 things wrong with the flick. Tarzan and INDY DOES NOT RIDE BITCH! Other than those glaring blots on the cinematic page the film was thouroughly entertaining and Ray Winstone was fantastic.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008 Shia Lebouf is a quality actor!!!Even Stevens - legendary!!! Shit Lebouf is currently the most over-rated actor in the Hollywood pantheon. Planning to see this on Bank Holiday Monday since it seems any outdoor activity will be rained off. I love the Indy films, loved playing the games (there were a couple of good Lucasarts ones on PC) and even read a couple of the books. I'm going to see with some trepidation as I realise it could be awful and the reason why will probably be Lebouf. As for, it's set up as Lebouf taking over the role (or at least, being a protege to start a new line of films in the same vein) - that's not a spoiler, was kinda obvious from the moment he was announced. Let's hope Speilberg and Lucas see sense. Incidently, when I watched Bulletproof Monk a few years back I thought that Seann William Scott would make a good Indy. Not the best actor in the world, but he's got the look and demeanour for it. You can change the actor playing a role successfully (ie Bond - though in IMO Connery is still the best of the lot) Since Lebouf has already played a different role in the frachise, that should rule him out of ever playing Indy himself.
morris1234 Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008 i saw today and i thought it was good, like somebody said the first half hour is good with the nuke etc but it does go silly but i thought it was good! it was one of those films that sort of had little riddles that were solved for you straight off if you know what i mean, you didnt have time to think what might happen or what something means because hes just bloody said it! i think what it missed was a main action part, there was the car chase in the jungle but it wasnt intense enough! on the whole ill give it a 7.5/10!

And i dont condone arson! hehe But yeah i know what you maeam!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 Just watched it and enjoyed it. Not quite up there with Raiders or Holy Grail, but on a par with Temple of Doom. Even La Beouf wasn't that bad. 8/9 (I'd never give anything a ten - nothing is perfect) As for those people saying that the end was over the top and silly... erm.. . that's kinda how ALL the Indy films end. Anyway, afterward went straight into Iron Man to watch that for a 2nd viewing - still a great film! 9/9 (At Vue they really turn the sound up - much better than it was at crappy Odean) Weird how no one stayed for the end of the credits though

I just thought there were a few moments where they made it too ridiculous
Webbo Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 I took the kids earlier and I have to say I really enjoyed it. 8.5/10 Like all modern blockbuster movies though you could see a) Which bits will go into the video game. b) Which bits will make the theme park ride. c) The sequel 'Son of Indy' being set up.
CosbehFox Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 After the first hour, it's crap. Went a bit too far on the B-Movie homage
AyewJoking Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 A good watch. Nothing spectacular but good to see him back.
