If this was to go ahead, LCFC should be looking as a matter of priority to keep all UK talent in the ranks.... Stears, Mattock, Chamber, Sapps, there stock would increase dramatically so we should be looking at this NOW, not later.

Maybe this is why MON is building a UK based squad, forward thinking and all that, and he is interested in our 2 lads....

The Football Association have voted in favour of further exploration into Fifa's much-maligned 'six-plus-five' rule which would see a restriction on the number of foreign players allowed in starting XIs.

The president of world football's governing body, Sepp Blatter, is keen to see the initiative implemented in time for the 2012/13 season but had seen his plans meet by widespread concern.

I don't think we actually need to worry because the EU will never let it happen.

In any case players like Weso and Gradel, depsite being foreign, would count as being 'naturalised' anyway- they came through our academy.

Im sure that something will happen in the respect of the amount of non uk based players in a team.

This will never get through the EC.

Football is a profession and to say that you must employ a certain amount of 'x' race of people is just unlawful.

Them poor teams having to employ 6 players who would be eligible to play for our national side.

Allowances and exceptions should be made for football I think.

I don't think this is about the 'poor teams' having to employ national players, i think it is more about the victimisation of the international players.

Personally, i would love to see Clubs spending more money on academies - knowing they must produce young national talent to survive, but i don't see why football should be the exception?

Would you like to give a suggestion?

I think its a great idea to be honest.

It will probably ruduce the 'quality' of the premier league, however I think it would make the league more even.

The thing is, the clubs can still sign foreign players, jsut because they're not playing week in week out it doesn'tmean that they're not employed or not working. I don't see why a club wouldn't be able to sign as many foreign players as they like as long as 6 national players are in the starting line up...

We employ 40+ players, but they don't all play. (be a pretty big side)

Is it not the amount on the pitch that they want to control

I doubt it will have any impact at Premier League level as the top four will just sign up all the best English players causing their value compared to 'foreigners' to increase even more.

The only difference your likely to see is at Euorpean level which is what Blatter is after, I'm sure he couldn't care less about the English domestic Leagues.

I believe this plan can circumvent EU legislation.

Blatter's plan is not to exclude the clubs from employing foreign nationals but to govern the rules on what team the clubs put out. In fact the clubs can employ as many foreing nationals as they like. However, when it comes to competition, only five are allowed to play. In that way, it circumvents EU legislation in that it does not restrict the right to employment within the EU, but instead restricts the clubs as to what sort of team they can field.

This is more likely to result in the G14 pulling away from football's governing bodies.

It does not restrict the right to sign for a club, but it restricts the conditions of employment when you're there.

I thought i read recently that G14 had decided to disband following talks with UEFA & FIFA

Some EC Commissioner bloke was on the radio this afternoon saying that 6+5 will never be allowed to happen and there will be no exceptions because it would open a floodgate. Instead there's an inititive that has been already been passed through the EC as a compromise with UEFA where there are no restictions to starting elevens or where players were born but no fewer than four of your squad are to come from your own federation.

6+5 along with game39 is dead in the water.

Wouldn't it make more sense to say that there should be a certain number of english players in the youth system? that way they have to invest in young English talent without making the first team weaker. I personally am not for the 6+5 idea, as I think it's discriminatory and players should get in based on talent.

Six plus five sounds a great idea to me.

Six players who give a fook plus five players who know where the goal is.

Like the Horsefields, the Corts and the Howards of this world, right?

Just because they're English doesn't mean they give a fook (and vice versa)

I don't understand all this. My understanding of EU legislation is that EU citizens are allowed to move freely to work anywhere in the single market, well that's the theory anyway although its not always practical.

Sepp Blatter's idea is just concentrating on the field of play isn't it? That 6 homegrown players are on the pitch at one time. How that is stopping EU citizens from being employed by English clubs is beyond me. What's stopping a club from having x-amount of foreigners in their squad? Surely they'd still be employed, they just wouldn't play as often.

I heard an email that was read out on SSN earlier saying this rule was unfair on the big four! Their fans really are twats arent they lol

Different employment rights.

If you are English, you have a 1 in 11 chance of starting - if you are foreign you have a 1 in 6.

Good point, but surely then the clubs would limit their buying of foreign players so that the 5 players that are non-UK are quality?

Either way, something needs to be done to prevent very average foreign players taking the places of English prospects.
