Finnegan Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 Given what you've seen in Euro 2008 so far, do you feel better or worse about "going out" to Croatia and Russia in qualifying?
dandannieldanok Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 Better definitely, Russia are far more entertaining. If we had took their place I can't imagine how boring the games against Greece and Sweden would have been. Tbh, although I like them to do well, I don't care much for the England national football team.
Fox You Forest Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 I feel the same really no matter how well Croatia and Russia have performed in Euro2008 is doesn't take away from the fact England were piss poor and got what they deserved sod all.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 I feel better due to the fact that we clearly went out to a couple of decent teams.
SamL Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 I do feel a little better. The fact of the matter is, we were poor and didn't deserve to go through. Over the whole group, the best two teams went through in my opinion. We would've done extremely well to get past the group stage.
Sparky Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Shame we aint there . We would have won every game at least 4-0 by now
sdb Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 They're both better sides than us so fair's fair i say. Russia are really entertaining too. There's silver linings in us not qualifying - fewer boring games, a (slight) deflation of our players' egos which will hopefully teach them that they can't just turn up and win games like at club level, and of course, McClaren's gone.
Ultra Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 To be fair, the Russia side that looked so impressive last night was light years away from the shambolic outfit that were thrashed at Wembley (and also by Spain earlier in this tournament), crashed in Israel and barely scraped past pub team Andorra in qualifying. In such a cynical age, a ready explanation springs to mind, but perhaps we should give more credit to Hiddink for his tactical and motivational skills, which extend well beyond those of any England manager of the current or past generation. Could Rooney and Owen have done as well as Arshavin and Pavlyuchenko? Sadly. we'll never know. The fcukwits at the FA have a lot to answer for..
purpleronnie Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Shame we aint there . We would have won every game at least 4-0 by now
Uncle Albert Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Still pisses me off. If England were there I think we would of done really well. Apart from Spain, Russia, Holland and Portugal the standard of football has been shocking in some games and Portugal and Holland are out. England may play shite football at times but I would still fancy us to beat Turkey, Russia and Germany. Still drawing at home to Macedonia 0-0, then you dont deserve to be at a major tournament.
Matt Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 I did have to laugh the other day before I carry on - A Wolves fan who think certain players of the Wolves squad would easily get into the top 4 teams and he wanks over Joleon Lescott who is first on his England selection everytime. There's only two teams that could beat Holland at the moment - And one of them isn't even in the tournament. Germany and England. ....Or Russia. I'm glad were not there. Quite enjoying it as a neutral aswell - I doubt i'd have watched half the amount of games that I had if England had been there because i'd have only been interested in purely England but I have watched the majority of games (I'd say 85/90%) and enjoyed most.
dandannieldanok Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Still drawing at home to Macedonia 0-0, then you dont deserve to be at a major tournament. Tbf Croatia lost in Macedonia 2-0.
Uncle Albert Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Tbf Croatia lost in Macedonia 2-0. To be fair we beat Macedonia 1-0 in Macedonia. So thats no excuse.
Simi Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Still hating it, but looking at the highlights of the Russia match from last night, it really shows how far we are off being a decent team in these competitions. Some of the passing and interchanging is different class. I can't remember the last time I watched us play a match where we really did tear a team apart. Russia have individual brilliance in Arshavin, but they play as a team. We have stars in Rooney and Gerrard etc, but it stops there. We are not a team, Capello needs to sort this quickly.
Sparky Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Just hope in my lifetime i see England have some success . Im passionate about my club and country

Finnegan Posted 23 June 2008 Author Posted 23 June 2008 If you want, Sparky mate, I've got a spare Wales shirt that you'd probably fit into for the next Six Nations. You can at least pretend you support a proper side then.
