City hope to land new players by next week by Steve Pumfrey

Leicester City chief executive Lee Hoos says the club are confident that new signings will be in place by next week.

While insisting it is too early to name names, Hoos confirmed that negotiations are continuing with clubs, and bids have been made for players.

City players will report back for pre-season training on Tuesday, and Hoos said: "A number of things are up in the air right now. For the 25, 30, 40, or 50 players you identify, you may get down to the wire with 10 of them and, maybe, land one of them.

"There have been lots of hours spent on the phone. From day one, the aim is to find them, land them and get them in.

"I can confirm we have made bids for players, but I don't like to do my business in the media - that's why you won't see anything coming from us in terms of looking at this and looking at that. I don't like what other clubs do."

In the past few days, City have sold Gareth McAuley to Ipswich for £1.1million, Richard Stearman to Wolves for a reported £2m and Iain Hume to Barnsley for £1.2m.

Hume says his fee will help City to "build up some of the money lost through relegation."

And Hoos admitted: "Iain said the club got good money for the three of them and, no question, he is right about that.

"We know we need to strengthen. League One is different and we know what we need to do to get out of it."

Hoos said new manager Nigel Pearson was settling in "very well."

He said: "He is putting in the long hours along with everyone else and relishing the challenge. The sleeves are rolled up to get some players in for Tuesday.

"The ideal situation will be to have your entire squad intact from July 1 so everyone is together for the very first day of pre season.

"The pre-season games are a chance for everybody to give a show, but the most important thing is conditioning and that has to be spot-on from day one. We don't want a player coming in who is behind everyone else."

Meanwhile, Hartlepool have dismissed reports that City have made a bid for defender Michael Nelson.

A statement on the club's official website reads: "Contrary to reports, Hartlepool United have not received any official bids from Leicester for defender Michael Nelson."

Nelson, who has a year to run on his contract, was linked with City by Sky Sports News.

Everton, Aston Villa, West Ham and Newcastle are all said to be chasing City's Joe Mattock.

Has he had his medical? ;)

:giggle:

He had it four month ago, but he couldn't read or write and it's took him this long to learn to sign the contract.

I think Pericard might be alright at this level.

Me too.

He's big and strong also has a bit of pace about him. Looked ok when he first came over to pompey.

He's another one of those players thats lost his way and may need a drop down to this level to get their career back on track.

Cheltenham Town have rejected a £350,000 bid for Steven Gillespie... believed to be from Leicester City.

Make of it as you will.

Thoughts?

seen it now on a few forums that cheltenham fans believe it to be leicester city... jus have to wait and see if its true.

scored 16 goals last season and kept cheltenham up... maybe he could be a 20+ striker at leicester with the right players around him?

 i'm saying nothing

Other than "i'm saying nothing"

He went training with newcastle(so would explain where pearson knows him from) only a young lad too. I watched the Conf Play offs i don't remember noticing him, but then you don't always notice solid players i guess.
