Rincewind Posted 29 June 2008 Posted 29 June 2008 I am not being sarcastic having been nicked for speeding, or illegally parking. I had to call them out yesterday and they arrived in time to aprehen some youths who were pinching lead of the roof ofa building. It all started at 1 oclock whaaaaah (go back in time) I was sitting in my office alert and ready for action when I heard some banging noise. I went up a staircase which had a view of a roof area. I saw one youth bent over making movements. The window is narrow so I only saw him because he was closest. I went back downstairs called the police who arrived within 15 minutes. Yes thats 15 minutes. A couple of officer went up some steps that led to the roofing area where the found one youth. Upon questioning they were forced to release him pending further enquiries. Furer search found other youths climbing on the higher roof one fitting the description of the one I saw. They were caught handcuffed and placed in police cars and vans. A wonderful WPC took my statemen. All the police present were friendly and curteous during their visit. They were nothing like pigs. Well thats my one exciting day over this year tune in 2009 for another thrilling episode of A Nightguards Life.

They come two weeks later on a pushbike asking for a statement.

And walk back after the bikes been nicked. Even if they did try to do something I doubt it would ever get to court where they would just get probation or something similar. I've got some lead on my roof
fox123 Posted 29 June 2008 Posted 29 June 2008 It's the Special's in town on a Friday/Saturday night I can't stand the antaganising, useless fookin clowns that cause more trouble the necessary. I remember once being escorted out of town and having a 24 hour City Centre ban, because they got the wrong end of the stick and tried making a situation 10 times worse than it was!!

If a crime is actually in progress and they've got a chance of actually catching people, if there's anyone available, they always turn up

Rincewind Posted 29 June 2008 Author Posted 29 June 2008 maybe it helped me not being a member of the public whose going to give them verbal when told they need evidence before getting a prosecutiopn. Or a father that gives a false alibi for their wonderful boy who does not hang about on street corners drinking stella. Not on did two police cars and a vad a van arrive the unit with hard hats arrived to climb on the roof. I was told they had enough for a conviction and the courts are coming down hard on this kind of thing. The youths said they were just drinking lager but I said I never herar of doing that sounding like a sledge hammer hitting the wall. If you are polite to them they will be polite back. They can only act on what they see and have to follow procedure. They are only doing a job.
purpleronnie Posted 29 June 2008 Posted 29 June 2008 People usually base their opinion on one incident if the cops are good then the british police are the best, if they piss you off they they are all pigs. My experience of the one time I spoke to them they were great.
davieG Posted 29 June 2008 Posted 29 June 2008 The only time I've had any real dealings with them is when they were after the Yorkshire Ripper they came around my house to interview me because I had a green estate car. Wanted to know where I was one or two nights about 3 months before, I couldn't even remember what I was doing the previous week. Fortunately I could remember I wasn't in Yorkshire. Actually it was a bit intimidating with 2 giant cops standing in my front room throw questions at me.

davieG Posted 29 June 2008 Posted 29 June 2008 I suspect you've another visit due now you've come out..... Oh no we're legal now, teachers no longer hit you across the knuckles with a rule for using you're left hand or eating your food with the knife & fork in the 'wrong' hands. Mind you they still laugh at me behind my back when they watch me play football or golf.
the_bowman Posted 29 June 2008 Posted 29 June 2008 I had one encounter with the police a few years ago when there'd been some pervs/blokes in black cars hangin round, and one pulled up next to me and my mates, so we reported it. I'd only have been about 12 at the time which probably changed it all, but again they were very polite and helpful with everything, and they were round the same day we'd called them.

You wouldn't be legal if Gene Hunt was running the force.

davieG Posted 29 June 2008 Posted 29 June 2008 i wish the likes of gene hunt was still around He should have been named Mike Hunt.
Dr The Singh Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 They may not be perfect but the British Police is still the best in the world!!!

I had dealings with the police about 3/4 years ago. They accused me of loitering around in a black car nrear some schoolboys,.. I have to disagree, I think the police are terrible. I remember about 3 years ago my dad and I caught some scrote inside our house. After a brief exchange ( ) I rang the police, informing them we had "Aprehended" the culprit. This was a friday night. Monday morning they arrived.

Probably the busiest time for them. They're all bundling pissheads into the back of police vans down Churchgate. It's the luck of the draw as to how busy they are when you make the call. When my neighbours were kicking off a couple of years ago, SEVEN police cars turned up. Mind you, that was about 5 in the morning. I was amazed they actually had that many on duty at one time. It's frustrating when no one comes but their man power is extremely limited, and unfortunately at any one time there's stuff going on all over the place

Coupled with the stupidly selective criteria for joining the police force (Unless you are a one legged black lesbian, you ain't getting in!) menaing limited numbers of recruits (so many things can exclude you from joining) We may possibly have enough 'man/woman power' to deal with the scumbag ramsacking my house. Funny how 2 officers turned up 2 hours after my dog and another dog had a bit of a scrap!...
The People's Hero Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 Did these police by any chance come back 3 hours later, offering to sell you some cheap lead?
