Simi Posted 23 July 2008 Author Posted 23 July 2008 Tunchev didn't play last night because he wasn't match fit.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 23 July 2008 Posted 23 July 2008 Kish deserves a starting berth imo. I know Oakley has his fans but he has absolutely no penetration to his game. No creativity. If anything he's too defensive.

If anything he's too defensive. Yeah I agree with that, him and Weso last night was just far too defensive, Kish looked really lively and was passing the ball well.

Unabomber Posted 23 July 2008 Posted 23 July 2008 And Kishishev will solve this? Well he played better than Oakley when he came on, so therefore deserves a start. He isn't necessarily the answer to our midfield flair though.

Much rather see a long term solution other than a quick fix. Andy King would be my choice to be honest. If King and Weso can improve their fitness levels I reckon we'd have a bit of flair with them two. A lot of gile with Weso as well, as he showed last night.

Yeah I believe that with the right player playing along side him Weso could be a good asset, but I don't think that King is quite ready yet, wouldn't mind see him get 90 minutes though against Quorn or Kettering.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 23 July 2008 Posted 23 July 2008 And Kishishev will solve this? No, I didn't say that. I have seen more creativity from Kishishev in these pre-season games than I saw from Oakley in the entire tail end of last season. He also seems able to form partnerships in the middle, unlike Oakley who usually cancels his midfield partner (whoever they may be). If Kishishev and Adams started in the middle tommorow I'd be more than happy.

Weso showed at the start of last season that he can cut it in the first team. His partnership with Clemence was very promising just a shame it had to be broken for one reason or another. Which games have you seen? Kishishev has played 90 minutes in total during pre-season. He's played well and looked like he cared, but he's got a way to go before he'll be holding down a starting place.

Isn't the very fact that he has "played well" in pre-season reason for him to receive a starting place?

Not when we have other competition from younger, more able footballers such as Weso and King who will create a lot more than Kishishev who rarely moves out the centre circle.

Fair point about his lack of mobility. I just feel that his presence in there could be of real benefit to any youngster that would play alongside him. I don't think that Weso is as creative personally but feel that he would compliment King well in midfield, much like Barry/Gerrard in the England squad (a defensive minded midfielder providing cover for a more offensive partner). If King could be weaned into the first team and given time to mature then no doubt he'll become a very good player.

King didn't do a single thing at Hinkley. We may aswell have had 10 men. I don't see why Kishishev doesn't deserve a shot?

Yeah. I just hope we're ready to give the youngsters a chance to show this potential that they clearly have having achieved a lot at youth level. Just with Kishishev playing, I worry about what we can create. Goalscoring is a problem for us, and with Kish it's not exactly going to improve. I'd love to see Oakley turn it around, however I'm not sure it'll matter as he looks like being firmly in Pearson's plans especially after being given the captaincy.

He's having his shot right now. He's had more game time than King at the moment. To write King off after 45 minutes at Hinckley would be harsh I reckon.

Yeah Kish's goalscoring record isn't great . I just hope that the whole Oakley situation doesn't become a farce like last last season where players were picked on former glories and not form itself. Some of the youngsters were treated very unfairly last term. Oakley does have the ability but I seriously doubt his commitment.

Fez pointed out to me during the game when Worley went down, that Morrison shouted to Oakley to pick up Worley's man and Oakley shrugged his shoulders and said "it doesn't matter". Not really the attitude you want from your captain.

Not really the attitude you want from your captain. No. The captain should take the game by the balls and seize control of situations. Oakley is far too quiet for my liking. One of the problems we've had at the club over the past few seasons is a genuine lack of leadership. Unfortunately I couldn't go last night but hope to make Quorn tommorow. I'll make a better judgement on him then. Out of interest who do you think would make the best captain?

But with 16 days until the start of season these 45 minutes are what players need to make count. Based on pre-season so far, Kish and Weso for me
