Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 I only noticed their home record yesterday! Ding Dong! Hamburg were bound to lose. Wolfsburg lost 2-0....there's 5 games left and 5 teams could win the title yet. If they hadn't drawn so many games they'd definately be in that mix at the top.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 April 2009 Posted 30 April 2009 FAO ld3 - When is Besiktas / Fenerbache? I'll give you another pound if Fener win. Then I'd have given you two in total.
Darkzzz_ Posted 30 April 2009 Author Posted 30 April 2009 If I am honest, I have to say La Liga has disappointed me this season. It needs an improvement next season. I have preferred Serie A. Hardly any negative football, this season it has been attack. I wish people would actually stop blasting it as the "Defensive" league of the 90's and actually watch a few games. It lacks the power of the premiership of course, but in terms of entertainment per game it has been one of the best in Europe this season. Ok Inter have run away with it, but next season will be different, you can already see it taking shape. Milan have found form and Juve, Fiorentina and Sampdoria are teams I have been impressed with, Genoa are another team. I think at the moment it is just below the premiership in total goals but has the same goal average as the premiership per game, which is fantastic for the league. After the last few years of disaster I think the Italian teams who were in the CL this season can be proud of themselves, I thought that Juve deserved to beat Chelsea and Roma were so unlucky against Arsenal. Hopefully they will strengthen in the summer and push the big boys of the premiership closer next time round. Here's hoping to a even stronger Serie A and a much improved La Liga. It will be great for football if they can.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 April 2009 Posted 30 April 2009 In the league on Sunday. In the cup on the 13th. You get a pound if they win the cup. The distance between them in the league makes that game irrelevant.
lildave3 Posted 30 April 2009 Posted 30 April 2009 You get a pound if they win the cup.The distance between them in the league makes that game irrelevant. Hardly, if Fener win, it would really damage Besiktas' title hopes.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 April 2009 Posted 30 April 2009 Hardly, if Fener win, it would really damage Besiktas' title hopes. Blah, blah, blah... At least Besiktas have title hopes. *whip*

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 April 2009 Posted 30 April 2009 Hope not Where you had that from? World Soccer magazine profiled the most prominent players that could leave on bosmans this summer. Lugano was included.

Darkzzz_ Posted 30 April 2009 Author Posted 30 April 2009 Serie A clubs to form breakaway leagueThis sounds familiar.. http://wikiatic.com/wikisearch/search?q=rolleyes.gif Really glad too. Let's be honest. The format of the premier league is great. I'm pleased if it does all go ahead.
Ultra Posted 30 April 2009 Posted 30 April 2009 The format of the Premier League is greed. I'm not surprised Italian lower division clubs are less than pleased with this.

Darkzzz_ Posted 1 May 2009 Author Posted 1 May 2009 The format of the Premier League is greed.I'm not surprised Italian lower division clubs are less than pleased with this. I agree with that. But it has been long over due. Serie A needs a shake up. I would love to see a more competitive Serie B now, they can take note of the Championship on that one.
Ultra Posted 1 May 2009 Posted 1 May 2009 Serie B is totally different to the Championship. The clubs in Serie B are generally a lot smaller. That's because Italian football hasn't been distorted by sugar daddies like Dave Whelan and Mohammed Al-Fayed buying their way into the top flight.

You are right about them being smaller in Serie B. But the whole point is that they want to build for a better league system, if Serie B clubs can't agree then so be it. I don't remember the Premiership stopping their format because of what effect it would have on the leagues below. The premiership is becoming unstopable, other leagues need to make changes to take a step forward. It is the Italian way, they won't agree on anything. But I am sure it will be of massive benefit in the long run. Serie B will eventually come round to the idea and they will want to fight it out to gain promotion to the top flight which will make it (hopefully) a far better league. As for the sugar daddies, Italian clubs spent so much money during the 90's, stupid amounts, it is fair to say they kicked the big spending off. But I am pleased that they haven't needed to sell up to foreign owners like the top clubs in the premiership have. I don't think they ever will either. I hope this format elevates Italian football, for the past few seasons it has been great, but they are playing catch up in Europe and this could be a huge step in closing that gap.
Ultra Posted 1 May 2009 Posted 1 May 2009 The Serie A clubs couldn't give a monkey's about the lower divisions - just like the Premier League clubs here. The Big 4 are sustained by TV money. I doubt whether Serie A clubs collectively would secure as big a deal. Italian football, for various reasons, doesn't have the worldwide audience that the Premier League does.

Not really, theres hardly any difference, fair enough Serie B has some tin pot teams but so does the Champioship. I'd like you to show me a Championship club with the modern history of Parma.

I guess over here we simply get the crowds and the interest where as they lack it over there. Whatever happens I shall enjoy my Italian coverage.

There loads of Italian teams who are big in Serie B, Modena Livorno as said Parma. Ultra just seems to incorrectly think the Championship is flooded with massive clubs just because Fulham and Wigan have had a cash injection, which isn't the case, it's full of very mediocre ones.
Darkzzz_ Posted 3 May 2009 Author Posted 3 May 2009 After a great day out in Crewe it was topped off by a cruise for Barcelona against Real Madrid, Madrid are so poor. I think we all know that, I hope to see 4 or 5 teams in La Liga giving it a better go next season.
