Fox You Forest Posted 16 December 2008 Posted 16 December 2008 Hehehe... ain't gonna happen... Alex has go the Christmas Number 1 all wrapped up! Lets not pretend that she's going to get there because of her talent, That's not me saying she isn't good (well she isn't as good as Leona) whoever won would have got it. Lets face it if Leon can do it anyone can.

I didn't watch or take any notice of the X Factor last year but i'm guessing he was 'the next big thing' who was really talented, so talented he had to go on a reality tv programme and get everything given to him rather than being discovered and doing some hard work himself?

In reference to the crap here, 1 name. Leona Lewis.
Matt Posted 16 December 2008 Posted 16 December 2008 In reference to the crap here, 1 name.Leona Lewis. 1 out of how many series? (X Factor has to be on 4 or 5 series surely? ) The only 2 music artists I can name which have actually done well and are still going from these programmes are Girls Aloud, and Leona. Perhaps Will Young but he's like Westlife now - Only pops up at Christmas (Fair play to them though, If it pays the bills and people will still buy it, do it!)

I still stand by the fact that on a whole if your good enough, talented enough, and work hard enough you will be discovered before any reality series, but I suppose that the 'celebrity' way now.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 16 December 2008 Posted 16 December 2008 Will Young is doing very, very well for himself.
FilboFox Posted 16 December 2008 Posted 16 December 2008 Alexandra's number 1 hit will be the 4th year running that an X Factor winner has the Christmas number 1 hit... I'll admit that Shane and Leon having that spot is a joke... but Leona and Alexandra are quality and looking at the competition for the top spot, there's no surprise Alex is going to win! I mean, what is all this with Jeff Buckley's version trying to make a comeback!?! If you are going to try and displace Alex at the top, surely you'd try and choose a song that is more popular with everyone and that everyone loves... maybe even a Christmas song considering it's Christmas... not the very same song that Alex is waltzing to the top of the charts with!

Let's be honest though, if it was quality over popularity, Buckley's version would win everytime. His Hallelujah is intimate and emotional, and he you can hear any anguish within his voice. Alexandra's is generic and manufactured. I don't care how talented she is, that song does not suit her and it has Cowell written all over it. They've almost made it into an epic, big band style song, and that's a no. What made it so special when Cohen first wrote and performed it was it's intimacy, and that is lost in Alexandra's cover, I'm afraid.

Exactly, I have nothing against Alexandra, She made won the competition and she is quite good, However she could release any song she wanted and still probably be number 1 because people would just buy it because its her and the public are victims of reality tv. The thing I have against her (Maybe not even against her - Cowell or whoever made/told her to do this song) is the fact she is going to ruin such an amazing song which should never ever be touched unless it really is something special. (And that's not being nasty, It just doesn't suit her, she has talent but that talent is suited to different types of music) That and the fact half of her songs on her album will no doubt be covers, Why don't they introduce a week during the X Factor where the contestants have to write a song for themselves (With a little help perhaps, Because even big music artists who have made it themselves get other people to write songs for them), Then we'll see who has the talent, Alot of people can sing covers.
