It was quite difficult making this one this time, finding music that not many will have heard on here. Anyway, here's the track listing, please stick to it! (58 minutes long): Download + 3. Klaxons - Magick (SMD Remix) 1. Mystery Jets - Hideaway OK, Indie for starters. Yes, most of you will be already familiar with these but this is my favourite track off their album Twenty One, and I think it makes a pretty good opener. 2. Playgroup - Make It Happen (Soulwax Remix) Nice short and sweet one for you here. A few of you will already be familiar with the brilliance of Soulwax, and this is no exception to their other work. As featured on GTA IV as you wil see... 3. Klaxons - Magick (SMD Remix) The second of three remixes on my playlist, I heard this from the Dancefloor Distortion album and it caught my attention quickly. Like the original of this song, love the remix. EDIT: See added track for correct song. 4. Kanye West vs MGMT - Electric Touch Maybe even MGMT can't save Kanye for some of you, but I think a few of you will take to this one nicely. Great little mix right here. 5. Sunshine Underground - Put You In Your Place Moving over to Indie now, this sound just reminds me of Leeds Festival (The DJ set featured this frequently). A great band, with a very good recent album, Raise The Alarm. 6. The Cribs - Martell This is basically just a shamless little advertisement for The Cribs really, one of my favourite bands. 7. Cazals - Somebody, Somwhere I think most of you will like this one, I hope so anyway. Only heard a few Cazals songs but I've enjoyed every one so far. 8. Edison Glass - Let Go Very briefly featured on my last mini FT compilation, but I don't think many people would have heard it. This was on one of the many indie/rock compilations I download; short, inoffensive track here. 9. The Vines - Highly Evolved Brilliant track, nothing new but just a great, raw track. 10. Pale Young Gentlemen - The Crook Of My Good Arm I think you might like this one too. Only just recently heard this track but loved it immediately. I thought this might be one for the FT masses, don't prove me wrong people! 11. Band Of Horses - The General Specific Again, featured on my last small compilation on here but I think it may receive a little more recognition this time around. 12. Fujiya and Miyagi - Uh I know Fez/Jay/James will probably all be familiar with these already, but I picked this track out from their brilliant album Lightbulbs to put out there to you all. 13. MGMT - Electric Feel Sampled in the Kanye/MGMT track earlier, but it's barely recognisable. Oracular Spectacular is a decent album for this year, I'd recommend it to anybody personally. 14. Jim Noir - What U Gonna Do Just a goood fun track here, I enjoy Jim Noir's music, easily likeable. 15. These New Puritans - Colours This might be fairly unpopular which I fear it will be but I'm going to put it out there anyway. Found from one of the Indie/Rock playlists like many of these on here. 16. The Whip - Trash Some of you may be familiar with these already, and this is the track that's pretty much made them popular today. 17. Youngblood Brass Band - Brooklyn Featured on James' first FT playlist I believe, but I've not seen them mentioned since. I've just put them on here as my final track to hopefully see them get more of the recogniton they deserve. Their musical product is brilliant, and I hope you enjoy listening to their stuff as much as I do.

Found from one of the Indie/Rock playlists like many of these on here. These New Puritans are ****ing quality. Prefer Elvis to Colours though. They're still both tunes.

shen Posted 14 October 2008 Posted 14 October 2008 1. Mystery Jets - Hideaway Ok. Better than most indie I’ve heard. The refrain reminds me of a 80s/90s song, but can’t remember which. The song doesn’t do it for me though. It lacks some oomph, something that would make me take notice. At the risk of sounding harsh, it could be useful as background music. 2. Playgroup - Make It Happen (Soulwax Remix) Soulwax are excellent, hands down. This song is too short though. Would’ve loved a longer track. But good nonetheless 3a. Klaxons - Magick First Klaxons song I’ve heard. Based on this song, they seem better than e.g. Franz F etc. I find the vocals quite lame though. It might also just be me, but I find indie groups sound a lot alike…? 3b. Klaxons - Magick (Simian Mix) This was a remix of the 'previous' song? I simply couldn't recognise it. Hoped for a better product than this though. Not at the same level as the next track. 4. Kanye West vs MGMT - Electric Touch No-one can save Kanye, but this is still a very good mix. Gets much more of my attention than the original Kanye track. Credit to the mixers here… 5. Sunshine Underground - Put You In Your Place This sounds very Franz Effy.. (at least the beat does)? It’s decent and catchy, but I doubt it’s a song that will stick or inspire. 6. The Cribs - Martell Uhm, no. This doesn’t do it for me at all. Least of all the lyrics actually… 7. Cazals - Somebody, Somewhere Catchy, streamline, nice, tune. Very good song to dance to. Not what I’d listen to regularly, but definitely on occasion. 8. Edison Glass - Let Go As you say: Short, inoffensive but quite enjoyable. It’s structured slightly differently to the other indie songs, to it’s advantage I think. More interesting. 9. The Vines - Highly Evolved It’s so short that I can’t make an opinion of it (maybe that’s actually a good thing ). It’s nothing ground-breaking, and doesn’t quite live up to its name. 10. Pale Young Gentlemen - The Crook Of My Good Arm My music tastes aren’t exactly synonymous with the “FT masses”, so I’m afraid I have to disappoint you here. I’d much prefer Gogol Bordello in this case. 11. Band Of Horses - The General Specific Quirky track, quite upbeat music with some weird lyrics. Interesting, deserving another listen. 12. Fujiya and Miyagi - Uh Fresh sounding groovy track. I admit I’m not familiar with F&M, but I can see why some on here rave about them. It’s not music I’d listen to either on a daily basis. 13. MGMT - Electric Feel Yeah, catchy track. Don’t recognise it at all from the mix earlier. The vocals take some getting used to, but in this day and age nothing is unusal about high pitched and other ‘strange’ vocals. 14. Jim Noir - What U Gonna Do Instantly like this! The funky bluesy feel is cool. Very catchy as well. Is this his usual style? 15. These New Puritans - Colours It’s a bit too chaotic and too uhmmm… forced. It might need a few more listens though before I dismiss it. Unlike track 8, it sounds just a tad too desperate. Their sound is too similar to the rest, so they have to somehow make it stand out from the other stuff by making a weird song construction. That’s the feeling I get anyway. 16. The Whip - Trash This is quite repetitive and quite ordinary. Yeah, catchy, but there’s not enough substance in this to keep my interest. 17. Youngblood Brass Band - Brooklyn Like this! It’s not common to hear funky brass bands anymore. This just might be the best track in the mix alongside track #14 Verdict: I know I’ve been harsh towards your mix (once again), but the indie genre just completely fails to catch my imagination. But there are a few tracks on there (2, 4, 7, 11, 14, 17) will definitely get a few more listens. As for the mix itself as a whole, it worked out quite well. I think it shows this is the 3rd CD swap “season”. Thanks for your effort, Joe. Definitely some potential there. edit: After listening to 'real' track #3

Fez of Mahrez Posted 14 October 2008 Posted 14 October 2008 1. Mystery Jets - Hideaway Like it. Good intro to the mix with the air raid sirens and it's a quirky song. I've never really got into Mystery Jets. The vocals here remind me a bit of someone like Shen said - possibly Robert Smith a little bit? Don't know. Mystery Jets were meant to play Summer Sundae this year but the singer broke his arm or something so they couldn't play. It meant I got to see the Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir though who were superb. But yeah, I like the variation in this song. 2. Playgroup - Make It Happen (Soulwax Remix) I've definitely heard this before, on some Soulwax mix probably. Good stuff, would be interested in sourcing a full version. 3b. Klaxons - Magick (Simian Mix) Oh god yeah, of course. I know this really well! Superb. 4. Kanye West vs MGMT - Electric Touch I really do hate Kanye West with an unbridled passion. Testifaaah, touch the skaaah, day you daaaah, **** off. 5. Sunshine Underground - Put You In Your Place Much more like it, this is my favourite Sunshine Underground song, the bassline is funky as hell and the drop on 0:26 is class. 6. The Cribs - Martell Obviously a pretty big Cribs fan and again, this is one of my favourite songs by them so good choice for a mix. I can see why someone wouldn't like it but this appeals to the indie kid I was back in the day and it's a great singalong at their gigs. 7. Cazals - Somebody, Somewhere I can't decide. I used to like the idea generally but it's been a bit overdone now and this sounds a bit like Paul Weller covering an Enemy song once it gets going. I still like it but it's not something I listen to much these days. 8. Edison Glass - Let Go Not heard of these at all. This is really good though. Plenty going on and the variation in tempo held my attention. Would be interested to hear an album, especially if they've done anything heavier. This would work well as a heavier, more post-rock song I think. 9. The Vines - Highly Evolved I remember this album coming out just before I went to uni when I was buying the NME every week and finding it hard to resist their relentless hype about everything. This was dubbed the best debut album of all time which made it difficult cos I liked it - but not that much by a long chalk. But if you say you like something that the NME is hyping to high heaven, you're made out to be some sort of idiot sheep character. There are still classic moments on this album but I would say they are more in the Autumn Shade/Country Yard moments, not the straightforward garage rock stuff like this. Still a decent little workout. 10. Pale Young Gentlemen - The Crook Of My Good Arm Again, not heard of them. It's interesting. I like the restraint, it would be easy to turn this into an energetic ska thing but we've heard it before. This is a bit different and I think it's better for it. 11. Band Of Horses - The General Specific Not quite for me, but again interesting. Held my attention even if I know it's not something I'd choose to listen to. 12. Fujiya and Miyagi - Uh Well of course. Best tracks on the new album are Sore Thumb and Hundreds And Thousands in my humble opinion but I love anything by this bunch. Top of my list to see live, criminal that I've not managed it yet. 13. MGMT - Electric Feel I know, I know. They're the best thing since sliced bread and everyone loves the album etc etc. I can't get into the album as much as everyone else in the world but this is pretty good, and of course a million times better than anything with Kanye bloody West on. He shouldn't have bothered. 14. Jim Noir - What U Gonna Do I really like Jim Noir but have never bothered to download anything by him except My Patch. This is in a similar vein but not in a generic way. Excellent stuff. 15. These New Puritans - Colours I've heard this a lot in clubs. I bet Smuts ****ing loves it. It's alright. 16. The Whip - Trash The Whip are one of those bands that people keep telling me I should be into but it's not really happened. I believe this is their best-known song and it just doesn't grab me. 17. Youngblood Brass Band - Brooklyn Great stuff. ---- Not to denigrate your previous effort but this is far, far better Joe. Really enjoyed it.

Having said that this is an above average effort and might grow on me. 2. Playgroup - Make It Happen (Soulwax Remix) Love Soulwax's remixes and I already have this tune off the Most of the Remixes album. 3. Klaxons - Magick (SMD Remix) Missing and forgot to download the "patch" 4. Kanye West vs MGMT - Electric Touch This should be good... but it's just interesting. Electric Feel has to be really stretched to fit Kanye's vocals. Me no likee. 5. Sunshine Underground - Put You In Your Place Trying to think what this sounds like... they nicked the intro riff from somewhere (EDIT: Franz F Take Me Out) and other bits too. Indifferent. 6. The Cribs - Martell Now, I bought The Cribs' Mans Needs album... and I've often thought why. Could be any indie lad chant along band. 7. Cazals - Somebody, Somwhere Singer sounds like the Wombats leader singer. Though VERY briefly he sounds like Elvis... Costello that is. Which is no bad thing. Quite catchy, pretty sure this has been played on Radio 1 some time. 8. Edison Glass - Let Go Probably my favourite track that is "new" to me. Could see myself searching for more of their stuff. 9. The Vines - Highly Evolved Had this album since it was released. A great moshing toon. MTV2 did a good mash up of this song with Pink's Get the Party Started 10. Pale Young Gentlemen - The Crook Of My Good Arm Ah, now this I like! Quirky and off-the-wall. Nice Cello (Double Bass?) playing in there. Something different to the singer lead/rythm bass drums line up of too many bands. 11. Band Of Horses - The General Specific Now this is being played quite a bit. Enjoyable - sort of Proclaimers for the 21st century. Nice track, but one that I'd heard before. Actually, did you put this on your other compo? 12. Fujiya and Miyagi - Uh Haven't like the F&M stuff featured on here before, but this wasn't bad. 13. MGMT - Electric Feel Got the album. One of the best albums of the year. 14. Jim Noir - What U Gonna Do Reminds me of Come Into My Office Baby by Belle and Sebastian. Belle and Sebastian's song is better. 15. These New Puritans - Colours Could be anyone of hundreds of supporting bands at The Charlotte. Sometimes supporting acts at The Charlotte can be great, but usually not. This is not. 16. The Whip - Trash Trying to be the new Hot Chip? Cold chips Shame, when I started listening I thought I'd like it, but it fell out with me rapidly. 17. Youngblood Brass Band - Brooklyn Not setting my world on fire. Undeniabley funky, but I really don't know what to do with it. A bit, meh.
