Corky Posted 15 November 2008 Posted 15 November 2008 What is it about 2-0 leads away from home this season? We seem to be cruising, then all of a sudden it's turned around. We've lost five valuable points already. We can't afford to lose many more at all.
Tilley Posted 15 November 2008 Posted 15 November 2008 "Right then lads, if we go 2-0 with 20 minutes to go, I don't want you to defend, alright? Text from Joe.
DB11 Posted 15 November 2008 Posted 15 November 2008 Because the players aren't fit enough to last the full game
hewittinspain Posted 15 November 2008 Posted 15 November 2008 I dont fancy your chances against Scunny either. That will be another 3 dropped!!

carterfox90 Posted 15 November 2008 Posted 15 November 2008 we have always been a favourite team on the pools coupon for draws
EnigmaticFox Posted 16 November 2008 Posted 16 November 2008 I have a conspiracy theory, anyone want to share it? No, ok, I’ll offer it anyway. This is how it goes: Someone in our club (no names, to fend off the law suits) is a member of an Asian match fixing cartel, s/he is placing bets that we will not win promotion/matches, whatever. This is then passed onto to the next chain of command (again, no names, in case greedy lawyers are hovering)! Thus when we suddenly find ourselves more than 2 goals up, Mr/Ms Fixit, becomes a very worried bunny indeed. And screams at next in command to do something about it! That is the best I can think of so far, as to why we continually squander decent leads in the last 5 minutes of games. Any takers?
Jordan Posted 16 November 2008 Posted 16 November 2008 EnigmaticFox, that's probably a bit too far-fetched of a theory. On an unrelated topic, can anybody recommend a good Swiss bank where I can deposit the few million Euros I wound up collecting yesterday evening?

Legend_in_blue Posted 16 November 2008 Posted 16 November 2008 This is a mentality issue. At the moment we are approaching the end of football matches with the wrong mentality. You can talk about this game and that game, losing points here, there and everywhere, but fact of the matter is, mentally, we bottle it. We bottled it against Yeovil on Tuesday night for the last five, any sharper team might well have scored. Just so happens this week a chap on about 14 goals manages just that. Last season this mentality ended up in us losing games, but in this division, we seem to be ending up drawing instead. Lucky for us we are, we can only go on and improve from here. I still fancy us to finish in the top two but then we never like to make it easy for ourselves. We ought to be 6 points ahead of the opposition.
Jordan Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 Fcuk You, you idiot how is it NP fault? TrevorBenjamin did not post that picture to imply that this is NP's fault--in fact from that picture, it's clear to me that Nigel Pearson is pointing out the person at fault. It's you.

Ric Flair Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 It is frustrating, but this happens to some teams. Pearson needs to try and get to the bottom of it. The more it comes in to focus the more it might become an issue though as the pressure increases. NP needs to concentrate on what our team does well and give them confidence that they can win matches from any position.

Sitting back and letting the opposition into games when we are in front is a problem with our attitude and confidence and these types of issues are notoriously difficult to counter. It is usually better to concentrate on straightforward, 'technical' problems that can be solved on the training field and there are several that spring to mind. For example; Distribution from the keeper is poor. Set pieces do not threaten, we hardly ever score from free kicks or corners. The back 4 allow themselves to be pushed too deep and fail to push up when we gain possession. These are things that the coaches should be dealing with but, judging by our play, do not appear to be addressing. If they were to do so and produce positive results that will not only improve our play but improve confidence as well. If the team feels that it is improving in some areas then they will be confident enough to improve their play in others.

The only player we have who can take a corner or free kick is Gradel and the quality of them vary massively. Adams is dog shit at set pieces, as is King, Dyer and Oakley. Does need to be addressed because Tunchev had a very good scoring rate before he came here and Hobbs, Howard, King and Morrison are big lads.
Alexikokopops Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 Fcuk You, you idiot how is it NP fault? Whatever people say about Jake's posts I'm a big fan of this beautifully succinct number.

This has been the case all season and there appears to be no attempt to do anything about it! More to the point, If we address this and the other known problems in a positive way so that our game improves in these areas then this will 'rub off' on our confidence and general attitude. The logic is simple, if we work on specific areas of our play and they improve, this will improve our confidence and improve all round play.
