ASH17LCFC Posted 15 December 2008 Posted 15 December 2008 I got NME to read about their GREAT comeback ... Its pretty pathetic, Damon and Graham have probally got bored of getting no press. So they reform a band who OASIS battered in the 90's. Good to see live but new stuff will be crap.

Yeah because Damon has had no press since Blur split, no one really cared about Gorillaz and TGTBATQ did they I absolutely love Oasis but Damon Albarn really is far more talented than Noel Gallagher.

Like saying MC Hammer had more talent then John Lennon. If you know anything you would know Coxon wrote most of the songs. Damon hardly been front page has he ?
Finchy Posted 15 December 2008 Author Posted 15 December 2008 Like saying MC Hammer had more talent then John Lennon. Erm no not in any way. Saying Noel Gallagher has more talent than Albarn is probably closer to that. If you know anything you would know Coxon wrote most of the songs. Absolute bollocks and what about Gorillaz and TGTBATQ? Damon hardly been front page has he ? Well yes he has, probably not as much on NME but on decent music publications that people take seriously like Uncut and Word.
Flynny Posted 15 December 2008 Posted 15 December 2008 Like saying MC Hammer had more talent then John Lennon. If you know anything you would know Coxon wrote most of the songs.Damon hardly been front page has he ? What the cock are you talking about? Thats tosh. Albarn wrote the majority of Blur's output. "More talented" is a difficult thing to quantify - both write good tunes, Albarn's just shown a lot more abilty to work in different ways than Noel Gallagher, though whether thats because the latter can't or is just too bloody-minded to is a different debate altogether. If you think something's wrong flinging about nonsense in response is a poor way of sorting matters.
Phube Posted 15 December 2008 Posted 15 December 2008 I always thought it was more of a partnership. Albarn did lyrics, Coxon did the music!?

Lillehamring Posted 15 December 2008 Posted 15 December 2008 Like saying MC Hammer had more talent then John Lennon. If you know anything you would know Coxon wrote most of the songs.Damon hardly been front page has he ? well, that saves me a job... ...if you look at the albums, and i don't have any with me at work, the credits are something along the lines of: "all songs by albarn, music by albarn/coxon/rowntree/james" if you'd ever been involved in the songwriting process, you would understand that this implies a situation where damon would write a song on guitar or piano, which he would then take to the band, as a group they would jam and rehearse the provided song to achieve the arrangement that they would take into the studio. similar to what happened with oasis' first album if i remember correctly, ie noel had the basic ideas for songs that they took into the studio and owen morris (?) helped them arrange into the finished product (to what extent this influence spread is ambiguous, and best left for another day) - this is also something that happened on early beatles stuff, with george martin changing some of the song structures. returning to blur, you can see how this songwriting process has influenced the albums they have released - the arrangements and influences are widely varying because of the input from the 4 members, whilst that particular flavour of albarns songwriting runs through all (or most) of what they have done. no doubt, ash, you have listened to coxon's solo work and will be aware of the completely different songwriting style coxon has to blur material, whilst there is a distinct 'blurness' in the melodies and chords of albarns solo stuff.

Best Of Blur Silly answer but you know it's true. I personally love The Great Escape and Parklife if you want some of the studio albums. I'd stay away from Leisure tho.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 December 2008 Posted 18 December 2008 Albarn has spawned many a side project that have all been successful, critically and commercially. Meanwhile, Noel and Liam pratted about riding on the success of WonderWall, and have written about one decnt tune since.

I like you laddy, but come off it, one decent track since Wonderwall, you know it's not true.
Finchy Posted 18 December 2008 Author Posted 18 December 2008 What's wrong with liking both bands? Completely different sounds.
