Matt Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 Nottingham Forest have this evening terminated the contract of manager Colin Calderwood with immediate effect.First team coach David Kerslake has also left the club. The move came following Forest's 4-2 home defeat at the hands of Doncaster which left the club in the bottom three of the Championship. Chief Executive Mark Arthur said: "We're grateful to Colin for his efforts over the last two and a half years, in particular for leading us to promotion from League One. "But we're in a result business and it's imperative that the club stays in the Championship. We need to give ourselves every opportunity to do that." The club will not be making any further statement at this stage. http://www.nottinghamforest.co.uk/page/New...1500136,00.html
davieG Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 Shame - where's the loyalty, gets them promoted and then gets the sack. He could have taken them back down as well!
Darkzzz_ Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 Exactly. I am going to start a petition to reinstate him as manager. He has done wonders at the club and should have been given until at least May.
Guest Bilo Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 Bring in Holloway! Actually no, he seems to do OK at small clubs.
Corky Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 I actually feel a bit for the bloke, got quite a bit of abuse last season in a promotion battle but has struggled this year. Inevitable really.
Guest Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 He could have taken them back down as well! I know, talk about a job half done
Tevez Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 It's football really. Not rated him as a top quality manager and has been given big financial resources and still hasn't done well with them (promotion after 3 seasons in League 1?) Rob Earnshaw is proving to be a waste of money and is not all that, football goes on and I'm sure he'll get another job.
DB11 Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 I minimize FM, see this thread, and instantly felt like clicking 'Apply for job' Anyway I guess they want a new manager to spend funds in January so, as it was inevitable he'd get sacked, it happened at the right time (well from a club's point of view but it weren't a very good Xmas present was it? )
Ultra Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 When I heard that Forest were three down at home to a team who have hardly scored all season, I wondered how long he had left. He's been out of his depth for some time and I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did. But there are enough managers currently out of work (Davies? Ince? Keane?) who should be able to keep the trees up and give us a crack at taking six points off them next season.
Father Ted Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 Such an overrated manager. Oh well, they'll be managerless for a while now and I hope they rot with someone like Hollowhead.
CosbehFox Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 The Forest fan at work every week kept saying 'I'll give him till Christmas'' Hehehehe
Shrenchel Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 Hope they stay up to be honest. Would rather play them than Southampton.
dandannieldanok Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 Terrible manager. I agree and today's result is embarrassing when you consider how Doncaster have struggled to score all season. However I still find it a bit strange, they are only one point off safety and have picked up of late. The owner/chairman seem to have ideas above their station, what were they expecting?
GLC Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 hahaha its so good to see forest in the relegation zone, cant wait for my brother to get home
Fosse Boy Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 I minimize FM, see this thread, and instantly felt like clicking 'Apply for job' Anyway I guess they want a new manager to spend funds in January so, as it was inevitable he'd get sacked, it happened at the right time (well from a club's point of view but it weren't a very good Xmas present was it? ) Who are you managing at present on FM to make you want to take on the fcuking Forest job? East Stirling?
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 27 December 2008 Posted 27 December 2008 Apparently they want Clough (Junior of course!) or Mr Roy Keene as their new man! There was also a mention of Billy Davies on five live.
Ultra Posted 27 December 2008 Posted 27 December 2008 Davies is probably the most likely. Although it would be highly amusing if Ian Holloway got the gig...
Ajax Treesdown Posted 29 December 2008 Posted 29 December 2008 Former QPR boss Iain Dowie is being touted for the Nottingham Forest manager's post. (Daily Mail)
