Fosse Boy Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 Can't blame him for wanting to better himself and his chances of getting in the england side though surely? I wouldn't be able to blame him for that, but I don't think that's really why he's doing it.
davieG Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 I can't imagine that anybody outside Middlesboro' cares
Uncle Albert Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 Can see where he is coming from in ways but if he said he would only stay at Boro if they improved the squad, why did he sign a five year contract the idiot. Two years would of made alot more sense.
sdb Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 i can see his POV. the clubs going no where, he's probably their best player and he seems to have signed the new contract with the promise of the club adding good players (e.g. not Justin Hoyte) to the squad. The timing's the best for all parties concerned (apart from the summer of course) as he didn't do it at a time when there was no way out. it's a little selfish but he's served his time there and he can do better.
breadandcheese Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 His timing stinks, right when his team need him most. I happen to think he's one of those players that you only really appreciate his worth when he's in your team, a bit like Heskey. Boro already have a ready made replacement in Johnson so can take their £12 million quite happily.
lildave3 Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 Can't argue with Downing tbh, he's been there years, he wants to progress and become a better player while winning things. Middlesbrough fans won't even be that bothered. As long as they get a good price for him then they're quite content letting him leave and playing Adam Johnson.

Joe. Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 I think he's a **** for knowing full well that he wouldn't be staying for 5 years when he signed his contract, but at the same time I can understand why he wants to leave. He's going nowhere fast at 'Boro.
Tommeh Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 If Downing was even a remotely good player I'd understand where he was coming from but he's not. 'Boro have many more important assets than him (Alves, Mido, Tuncay to ame a few) £12m for him is laughable.
Carlos9 Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 His dad said they promised Stuart Downing they would buy loads more players and push up the leauge.
Simi Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 His dad said they promised Stuart Downing they would buy loads more players and push up the leauge. His Dad saying that really doesn't give it much weight, possibly making it an easier exit for Downing as he doesn't look as bigger twat as he does currently.
lildave3 Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 Why did he bother to sign a 5 year contract last year then? I don't know, I did not know that. Things change.
davieG Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 Why did he bother to sign a 5 year contract last year then? Given recently signed a 5 year contract and he wants out, I imagine the reasons are similar.
Simi Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 I don't know, I did not know that.Things change. They do, but even if he was promised more players to come in etc he commited himself for a longer period at the club and has now requested to leave, he deserves the bad press he'll no doubt get from Boro fans.
Lillehamring Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 Why, he has served them well over the years. Middlesborough are a club going nowhere, although they may go down. thank you, david coleman...

Agreed, can't imagine him having much impact at Spurs (who seem the only team interested) if he goes. He's not done much for Boro this season and once again you have to question Redknapp's thinking. He's openly shown his criticism of Ramos' signings, yet is chasing the signing of a distinctly average player for a blockbuster fee.

Carlos9 Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 how can you say he aint good! he has a quallity left foot. Him on the left Bentley on the right.. You cant go wrong!
Rodderz Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 Spurs agree fee for Defoe. According to ssn jermain defoe will be presented to the spurs fans before the game tonight
J.Lisemore Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 According to SkySportsNews Arsenal have been given permission to speak to Andrei Arshavin. sounds like a quality player and would like to see more of him in the premiership. Link
Uncle Albert Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 Wont be able to handle the pace of the Premier League players like Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes, Alonso, Ballack and Carrick will run rings around him. Would be better off in Spain or Italy.
Tevez Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 Arshavin is a fooking quality. I loved this kid in Euro's. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRSHAVIN, ARRRRRRRRRSHAVIN.
