barmy76uk Posted 9 January 2009 Posted 9 January 2009 Leeds get Trundle on month's loan Lee Trundle's goals helped Bristol City to the Championship play-off final Simon Grayson has made his first signing as Leeds United manager with the capture of Lee Trundle on a month's loan from Bristol City. The 32-year-old striker, who has scored 130 career goals, cost the Bristol side £1m from Swansea City in 2007. Grayson told the club's website: "Lee is a proven goal scorer." "He brings something a bit different, and he has a great track record. It's good competition for places and he is a good acquisition to the squad." Trundle, who has been given the number 35 shirt at Elland Road, has played 19 games this season for City, scoring twice, but has not featured since Boxing Day. The Liverpudlian, who started his career at Stalybridge Celtic, has also played for Southport, Rhyl and Wrexham. His most successful spell was at Swansea, for whom he scored 86 goals during his four-year spell in West Wales.
Finnegan Posted 9 January 2009 Posted 9 January 2009 Pointless signing. Was anonymous towards the end at Swansea, was replaced by the far, far superior Jason Scotland for pittance and failed to make an impact at Brizzle.
barmy76uk Posted 9 January 2009 Posted 9 January 2009 Seems like another kind of 'donkey' to me. a great player and match winner, him or howard! Trundle everytime!
Sparky Posted 9 January 2009 Author Posted 9 January 2009 James Beattie to Stoke 2.5 Million - Fee agreed http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_4770671,00.html
barmy76uk Posted 9 January 2009 Posted 9 January 2009 He would have been a good signing too, real powerhouse and goalscorer!
Finnegan Posted 9 January 2009 Posted 9 January 2009 a great player and match winner, him or howard!Trundle everytime! Disagree hugely, and this is from the closet Jack. He was a great lower-league player but in a very specific role. He might be slow but he isn't a big man, he's more akin to Fryatt if you're comparing him to either. You wouldn't want the Trund and Matty playing together, he's not a target man at all. I don't like Howard, I've implied it a hundred and one times and I'll spell it out now - however well he's done this season for us he's still slow and lazy and I still think we could have gotten far, far, FAR better for £1.5m as a Championship side supposedly going somewhere. But I'd take him 100 times ahead of the Trund, tbh. Surprising from Leeds. Only famous because of Soccer Am. Unfair. He was quality for the Swans before he started to go stale and get a bit old, he was picked up by Soccer AM because he was cheeky and pretty skillful. Never going to be a Prem player but cracking for his level.

J.Lisemore Posted 9 January 2009 Posted 9 January 2009 We will see when he plays out his skin for leeds! Cant see him being the same player he was when he was with Swansea. N'Zogbia on his way out of Newcastle, Link

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 Etherington? Hmmmmmm. Not a bad player on his day but he's not really seen enough action this season to be expected to perform wonders for a poor Stoke, who seem to be slipping down slowly but surely.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 Good signing. When he's on form he's not bad, don't see how he can warrant a fee like that though. Not a regular in a stop-start West Ham side.
Father Ted Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 You know what the funniest is?? Santa Cruz being worth £18m He's simply a one-hit wonder. Did nothing at Bayern Munich and nothing this season. One lucky season last season but has really struggled since Bentley has gone.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 You know what the funniest is?? Santa Cruz being worth £18m He's simply a one-hit wonder. Did nothing at Bayern Munich and nothing this season. One lucky season last season but has really struggled since Bentley has gone. He's got the potential to be one of the most leathel centre forwards in the world, but he's always been hampered / crippled by injuries. He hasn't played many games at all for a man of his age.
GLC Posted 11 January 2009 Posted 11 January 2009 Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has revealed the club have received an offer for goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes. The 27-year-old, a £7m signing from PSV Eindhoven in June, struggled for form initially at White Hart Lane before settling down to improved displays. Redknapp did not name the club interested in Gomes, before going on to praise the 17-times capped Brazilian. "I know a club from abroad want to give us our money back for him, but he's shown unbelievable character," he said. Paul Robinson's successor, Gomes earned a move from Brazilian side Cruzeiro to PSV in 2004 where he won four Dutch titles. But a series of blunders in games against Fulham, Aston Villa and Udinese put the Brazilian under pressure. However, the arrival of goalkeeping coach Tony Parks, who replaced predecessor Hans Leitert, is believed to have coincided with Gomes' improvement. Redknapp has previously suggested he was interested in bringing in another goalkeeper during the January transfer window. "I've been looking round maybe for a little bit of goalkeeping cover if I can find one," he said. "But he (Gomes) has played every game, he hasn't hidden and that was with a few injuries which he could have not played with. "He had a hand injury which the physios were saying to me they're not sure whether he can play with it."
