Head Honcho Posted 8 January 2009 Posted 8 January 2009 There has to be a political motive.A non-League side is drawn at home to a top-10 Premier League side at this stage of the competition, and the TV companies don't want to show the game live? I'd be very surprised if this has EVER happened before in the lifetime of the Premiership. But given that the FA chairman is a Jewish ex-government minister, Kettering are literally paying the price for bringing politics into football. This definitely has to be the reason why the tie is not being shown live. It's a tough one but regardless of the sponsor I feel the tie should be treated as usual and shown live.
Sparky Posted 8 January 2009 Posted 8 January 2009 Liverpool vs Havent and Waterlooville wasnt showed live in last seasons 4th round although may be it would have been if Havent were the hosts
Fosse Boy Posted 8 January 2009 Posted 8 January 2009 I don't know much about the distribution of TV rights overseas, but I would imagine that this too would influence the decision of ITV and Setanta into which matches they choose to put on. As we saw with the utterly ridiculous '39th game' proposal, those who run English football are interested only in competing commercially with what they see as other rival sports franchises (the NFL, the NBA, other European football leagues etc.), and have lost all interest in doing their job of running exciting football competitions within this country. The TV companies and organisations like the Premier League and the FA know that they can exploit 'brands' like Manchester United and even Spurs to fans in North America and the Far East in order to make themselves richer, so why would they want to pick two non-commercially viable entities such as Kettering and Fulham to broadcast overseas as an advertisement of their franchise? It's a sad state of affairs, but while football's administrators continue with this mindset then we'll continue to duped into sitting in our armchairs, switching on our TVs and believing that only the big clubs matter.
Uncle Albert Posted 8 January 2009 Posted 8 January 2009 Chill out Kettering. What he said. I'm sure Hartlepool and Torquay would of loved to off had their game's shown on Setanta/ITV but they are coming out complaing about it. If I owned either of these Channels then I would pick the game's that would attract the most viewers and obviously Spurs v Utd is going to be attracting alot of fans around the world. Like people said Havent v Liverpool wasnt on last year and thats alot bigger off a game (for Havent) than Kettering's so are people really that surprised?
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 8 January 2009 Posted 8 January 2009 Why do people like watching all premiership ties? There JUST THE SAME AS THE MATCH IN THE SEASON!!!! :frusty:I can see why they'd be pissed. I'd rather watch this any day. I'll probably go and watch it live if city aren't there. How you can't say it's not a glamour tie is beyond me. I personally like Setanta and have defended them before, but with FA cup ties they only pick the teams with big support (Leeds in the 1st Round etc) so that more people with subscribe with them...Pissed me off the beeb haven't got it...they would have shown Kettering. Agreed love it watching a massive underdog trying to knock off the priemership sides. I feel for some of the players cos for most it will be the highlight of there careers
Darkzzz_ Posted 9 January 2009 Posted 9 January 2009 I would say yes I am surprised, but NO, of course I am not. After all football is business. I am in the majority that would have loved to see Kettering get their faces on the box in a David v Goliath battle. Although I am from Kettering, I have no emotional ties to the club, couldn't care less about half the fans, but as a football fan I have always liked to see the smaller clubs do well in the FA Cup, for most of them it is a money spinner, a much needed one as well. I include all lower league clubs in what I am saying and not just Kettering. The amount of coverage we get these days I am sure they could have squeezed them on. It was always going to be this way I suppose, this round has thrown up some excellent ties, Maybe Kettering and Torquay were just unlucky, but my personal opinion would have been to stick them on, the smaller clubs are the reason why I love the F.A Cup.
CosbehFox Posted 9 January 2009 Posted 9 January 2009 I don't know much about the distribution of TV rights overseas, but I would imagine that this too would influence the decision of ITV and Setanta into which matches they choose to put on. It does but no doubt Kettering and Torquay will be selected worldwide for the 3pm Saturday allowed abroad.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 9 January 2009 Posted 9 January 2009 ITV should NEVER be allowed to cover ANY sport. They are just completely useless at it. All they see is the big names and they have no comprehension that people might want to see something else. For instance they have FA Cup, but will they be showing any highlights of the replays (as BBC would have) - no! When they had the Premiership, that was cack! Same with F1. They should stick with what they do best - mundane soaps for the masses and editted films!
Vestan Pance Posted 9 January 2009 Posted 9 January 2009 Don't worry, Football will come back to the working classes when the money men have finished with it. This is just another good reason to be as far away from the Premiership as we have ever been.
breadandcheese Posted 9 January 2009 Posted 9 January 2009 But given that the FA chairman is a Jewish ex-government minister, Kettering are literally paying the price for bringing politics into football. That's a hell of an insuation based on nothing but his religion. If the boot were on the other foot, I'm sure you'd send your grade A legal team into action. With regards, the TV scheduling, I think it's much ado about nothing. Man U-Spurs, Liverpool-Everton are big draws for joe public. Like it or not, these are teams with large fanbases who are more likely to draw in the half-*rsed football supporter. They'll get higher TV ratings for these games than Kettering-Fulham. Not to mention, audiences around the world would rather see the big teams. Cardiff-Arsenal should be televised with the chance of an upset. Likewise with Hartlepool-West Ham, particularly because West Ham are a bigger club than Fulham. The only question mark for me is Derby-Forest on the Friday night. This is not a big derby anymore, although the Clough factor has now made it more TV appealing. For that reason, I can understand, whilst not necessarily agreeing with it, why this game has been chosen. To be honest, Fulham are a boring team and not a big draw. If it was on the telly, I probably wouldn't bother watching it, where as I would the other games.
Darkzzz_ Posted 9 January 2009 Posted 9 January 2009 Kettering have released the prices for the Fulham game. A lot of people I know are fuming at these prices. Tommeh Posted 9 January 2009 Posted 9 January 2009 Thats the way they make their money back then, the ticket prices reflect the TV decision imo. Like it or love it more people would watch United-Yids and thats all ITV and Setanta will care about. Sorry state and all that. I think I paid a quid at that place in pre season!
Fosse Boy Posted 9 January 2009 Posted 9 January 2009 Disgraceful but unsurprising. A-Line Arena! Anyone who calls it that needs shooting.

Sorry state and all that. I think I paid a quid at that place in pre season! Exactly, they have obviously bumped these up more than the norm, to cover the "Loss" from TV coverage. Disgraceful but unsurprising.A-Line Arena! Anyone who calls it that needs shooting. I still call it Rockingham road, It is hardly an Arena.
Floating Fox Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 Ok maybe I won't bother going looking at them prices.
Sparky Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 £28 !!! Robbing bastards . Looking after their loyal fans i see
filbertway Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 Doubt it would have been that high had they been shown on TV. How a non league team at home to a prem team in the 4th round of the FA cup is not TV worthy I will never know.
