Tevez Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 Too many errors of this guy, how he plays at International level is beyond me.
Ashley Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 Agreed, what an earth was he doing and how did Gabby score from that kind of angle?
BoneDog Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 I haven't seen todays yet but have heard it was a howler
lildave3 Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 I used to rate him, but the more I see of him sort of makes me change my mind. I think he's better than West Brom though.
The Reverend Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 He was a fcking brilliant keeper til Croatia. It's shattered his confidence, and as far as he's probably concerned, he cost us a place at the Euros. How could you ever recover from that? Its a psychological thing.

This pretty much sums up Paul Robinson, too.
Mikey Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 This pretty much sums up Paul Robinson, too. Robinson only let 4 goals in in the Euro qualifiers.
lildave3 Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 Robinson only let 4 goals in in the Euro qualifiers. Yeah but you can't deny that game against Croatia shattered his confidence can you? And it's not like he had to do much in the rest of the games
Hullfox Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 He made some good saves today but when you are keeper for a bottom of the league side you're fooked. His mistake today was a howler but he should not have been in the position of having to make a save
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 Kirkland / Green / Hart would all be ahead of Carson for me. Especially Kirkland who I think is a first rate 'keeper.
act smiley Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 Carson has never been great - he's been good and still is, but the fluctuations in his form have all been exaggerated. He's a good keeper who is fairly error prone and always has been - just nobody noticed until they became that high profile.
tartanowl Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 Carson was fantastic for us on loan yet Agbonlahor was awful. Funny how things and players change. I agree with one of the posters above. McClaren is largely responsible for wrecking Carson's confidence.
Jimmy Posted 11 January 2009 Posted 11 January 2009 Carson is a great player but his confidence is shot and he's seriously handicapped with that excuse of a defence in front of him, what was Barrett doing for that second goal (which 999,999 times out of a million Carson would of smothered comfortably), he just let Agbonlahor have the freedom of the area ... for me the 3 keepers that should be in the next England squad are James, Green and Hart Kirkland is just far too injury prone, when he 1st came on the scene at the same time as Robinson it was kirkland they were all tipping as a future England no 1 ...

I didn't know Earl Barrett still played.
Jimmy Posted 11 January 2009 Posted 11 January 2009 what ever his name was it was similar to that, I was only half paying attention to MOTD at the time and can't be arsed to go look it up

BoneDog Posted 11 January 2009 Posted 11 January 2009 Kevin Poole should of been playing against Croatia and then none of this would have happened
FilboFox Posted 11 January 2009 Posted 11 January 2009 Carson's sh*te... he should never play for England again with such embarrassing mistakes being made time and again at club level... England as a nation have a real problem for the future of goalkeepers... Kirkland, Hart, Robinson... none of them are outstanding keepers who could command a defense in front of them comprising of Terry, Ferdinand and Cole which is a real problem. Kirkland is probably the best out of all of them but he's playing at Wigan and no offense to them but they aren't the biggest club in the world and he's not used to having to deal with the pressure of big club and international matches... I remember him at Liverpool and there he was a bit of a mess... in such a case, when he's having to be in the England team and in control of a back line, will he have the confidence, presence and ability to do well for us? Who knows... I for one am very concerned by the state of English goalkeepers...
Jay Posted 11 January 2009 Posted 11 January 2009 being a keeper is a thankless job you can make 10 world class saves but let one in due to an error and everyone remembers the error yet you can be a striker miss 10 shots including a sitter but score the winning goal and everything else is forgotten.

We've seen before what happens when we pick an England team compromising players from so called "bigger" teams, and that got the country absolutely nowhere. Give Kirkland a chance.
Anish Posted 28 January 2009 Posted 28 January 2009 He's a joke. Shouldn't be anywhere near the England squad.
