Samilktray Posted 30 July 2009 Posted 30 July 2009 It starts of well, then gradually fizzes out for me. Like the sound they have on this album though.
Craig Posted 30 July 2009 Author Posted 30 July 2009 www.arcticmonkeys.com 9pm Chance to see the boring band perform tracks from their distinctly average new album
Joe. Posted 30 July 2009 Posted 30 July 2009 Well that was an anti-climax. Pretty much. Ah well, the real show is coming in four weeks time.
Flynny Posted 30 July 2009 Posted 30 July 2009 Okay so after a listen: going to be a massive grower (like my willy LOLZ). Some of the songs take a while to reach a peak (secret door <3) and some need a couple of listens, which is why the ones that weren't in those 6 Craig uploaded before sounded a bit flatter to me on their first go, probably.
Craig Posted 30 July 2009 Author Posted 30 July 2009 It definately is a grower, and that's what makes it brilliant. They said in the recent MOJO interview that it's called 'Humbug' because of a sweet analogy that they applied to the three albums. With the first two being "instantly malleable and quickly digested", whereas "this one's perhaps more of a boiled sweet, say a humbug". I'd go along with that.

I notice you left out the bit about it being something you have to suck on before the juiciness gets released, or whatever it was the interviewer said.

lavrentis Posted 30 July 2009 Posted 30 July 2009 Just finished listening to it all. Pretty average tbh, like Pretty Visitors the best.
Finchy Posted 31 July 2009 Posted 31 July 2009 Hmm first listen, like a few people have said, pretty average. It doesn't excite me like their old stuff, the songs seem to sound the same. I hope it gets better with more listens But Pretty Visitors is a mint tune!
Flynny Posted 31 July 2009 Posted 31 July 2009 I hope it gets better with more listens Does, I'm 3 down now. I think I need to listen to it whilst not doing something else, this isn't the sort of album that hits you, for the most part, you have to go after it. I still can't tell to what extend it's a grower or just flat but it definitely improves.
WardyisPukka Posted 31 July 2009 Posted 31 July 2009 defo a grower , doesnt compare to the other two ,its a completley different sound for them but reckon it still suits them ,

Joe. Posted 31 July 2009 Posted 31 July 2009 Musically, it's in a different league to the other two. Preparing for the next track already I see.
Craig Posted 31 July 2009 Author Posted 31 July 2009 Preparing for the next track already I see. Not a clue what you're talking about
WardyisPukka Posted 31 July 2009 Posted 31 July 2009 ive been reading other forums and its been recieved as a marmite album , you'll either hate it or love it , after 3 listens i think its brilliant , musically and lyrically have again progressed , wud love to know what dance you little liar , potion approaching are about??
Finchy Posted 31 July 2009 Posted 31 July 2009 To be fair I couldn't care less if a band has progressed musically, great musicianship wasn't what the Monkeys were about for me. It was just the raw sound they had and the things they had to say, now I don't understand the lyrics at all and I do think it's a tad pretentious. Just my opinion, sozzz All this new album has done for me is make me want to listen to their early stuff again, even after 4/5 listens I can't get into it and believe me i really want to because i absolutely love everything they've done so far

Just my opinion, sozzz Definitely wouldn't call it pretentious myself, they genuinely just wanted to go in a new direction. They knew that they could have produced another album in the style of WPSIATWIN or FWN and it would have been popular and sold records. Therefore there was no specific need of a change of direction, so I don't know how it could be described as pretentious....
Hugo Sanchez Posted 31 July 2009 Posted 31 July 2009 HAHA, Next big thing and they george bested it ! They will fade away now, like i said before. Kasabian are a bigger band than them now. The Enemy are a better band then them Even the Reverend And The Makers new album is better. They have flopped big time. 1 good album and that will be it for these indie tarts.
