Finnegan Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 Because I know there's a few of you types floating around on here. Out of interest, how do you get 6 months office experience when every, single employer wants six months office experience before hiring? Is there such a thing as Entry Level anymore, and how the fook do you find it?
Lillehamring Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 according to the recruitment consultant i spoke with recently, 70% of jobs are not advertised, so maybe you need to speak to friends and friends of friends... that's what i'm relying on, i'm struggling as i can only take jobs in places where the working language is english, but most people here can speak good english AND norwegian.... what a drag.
Lillehamring Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 i don't think that's really the right career direction for me.... ps. best website name ever
Milky Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 It's like they think you'll explode the moment you walk into an office environment.
Monk Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 As said above, a lot of jobs are not advertised. I would tailor your CV to focus on transferable skills - eg computing, communication based on non work activities. Then get out there to as many agencies as possible.
Finnegan Posted 9 February 2009 Author Posted 9 February 2009 I couldn't even get an agency to talk to me today! Every one I went in said there was no warehouse work at the moment and that I need six months office experience to do office work. And there's really no point lying, the agency don't care and they're going to find out one way or another.

You could try Kilworth, he's in recruitment.
Finnegan Posted 9 February 2009 Author Posted 9 February 2009 You could try Kilworth, he's in recruitment. Why do I get the distinct impression that's a euphamism?

Failing that, become a bank robber.
Finnegan Posted 9 February 2009 Author Posted 9 February 2009 Failing that, become a bank robber. Ironically, I've spent the day filling in applications to be a banker.
Babylon Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 Ironically, I've spent the day filling in applications to be a banker. Bad-um-tish.
Finnegan Posted 9 February 2009 Author Posted 9 February 2009 No no, not a joke. I even avoided the obvious wank pun. I really have.
Babylon Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 No no, not a joke.I even avoided the obvious wank pun. I really have. Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.... we all hate bankers, you are the scum of the earth. If I had a baby you would have taken food out of its mouth. I also blame RBS for the bush fires in Australia.

I'm not becoming part of The System.
Monk Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 I don't know how old you are so can't comment, but if you are going for office work why don't you spend some time getting an official Microsoft Office qualification. Wouldn't cost much and would definitely help.

I just want more than minimum wage, full time, enough to move back into my own house.
cisono Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 Ironically, I've spent the day filling in applications to be a banker. well, they get all the bonuses... and after 6 months, you'd have the 6 months' office experience you need for any job application to speak of
Finnegan Posted 9 February 2009 Author Posted 9 February 2009 Narh it's unlikely to really help. Really, don't be fooled, it really, really is over-glorified customer service / sales. It's basically retail, selling people their own money.
