Corky Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 Can anyone tell me why it would be such a problem to move the away fans into the corner next to the kop and dont say could cause trouble because there right next to l1 and the bloody family stand now anyway, and I dont but that crap about getting the away fans away better there is loads of room behind the east stand. The thing that puts me off moving the kop to the north stand is you have the sun inyour eyes for the whole game we should leave the familys stand there. This is the one and only solution to the problems with atmosphere at the walkers and I know some season ticket holders would have to move but I believe it would be better for the kop and much better for the family stand. It isn't going to happen, the away fans are in that corner for a reason and it will remain that way.
Cobbo Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 Fosse fans made the same point in 1904/05 when the away fans were put in the East Stand and the "singers" were up in the North Stand. This is an on-going problem which has lasted 105 years It isn't going to happen, the away fans are in that corner for a reason and it will remain that way. Yes, for the reason Lisa has already stated; "The stadium was designed to accommodate the away fans in that corner. It has segregation in place, it has police cells etc down there, etc etc etc. It's not going to happen."

Guest Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 Exactly, so hopefully the question won't be asked again. I guarantee it will. If I was a bookie, I would not be taking bets on the subject.

sbfox Posted 13 February 2009 Posted 13 February 2009 Reality check: The Kop is the Family Stand is the KopBoth have families, both have children galore and neither contribute much by the way of atmosphere. You can call the Family Stand SK1, The Kop or The ****ing Killzone - it won't make a jot of difference to the noise at games. To be fair, call ANY stand 'The ****ing Killzone' and I'd be in it....

You're more likely to find intelligent life-forms on Mars..
Vestan Pance Posted 13 February 2009 Posted 13 February 2009 Nice idea but not a new one. The Club have refused to do what they know is the right thing. Too cowardly to actually do something that might go against the Health and safety/security chiefs. As I've said on here before'The Kop' is now something which only exists in LCFC's imagination and marketing meetings. Those fantastic days of the real Spion Kop are long gone. There is a new generation of fans doing their thing up in the East Stand, they are the future of our vocal support. If you want to bring back the kop atmosphere go and join them, it's the only way we will hold onto some of that tradition.

leftsideoverhere Posted 13 February 2009 Posted 13 February 2009 First post on here, long time City fan though... When I was a kid, our family trips to Filbo (my mum and me) were always to the East Stand. When I got a little older and could come to games on my own then standing in the kop was the only place I wanted to be. Good times or bad, I'd rather be packed in and shouting - if I want to sit quietly and applaud, I'll get my deckchair out at Grace Road (which I do, too, but that's another story). Since growing up, moving away, coming back and having children, I've made a few attempts to get the little darlings interested in spending their Saturdays watching the Foxes, but for various reasons I've not been all that successful. It's harder to interest kids in a team that is slipping down the league, I guess, and they've got more channels to watch than I did. But one of the things that I'm sure has made it harder for them to catch the bug is that when we have come to games, and sat in the so-called family stand, it has felt more like sitting in a barn. Cold, drafty and a bit of an echo if you cough too loudly. It's kind of the worst of both worlds when it comes to a place to watch football - the away fans packed in next to you make a racket and sweat at your children, you can't hear a sound coming from the rest of the home fans, and your bloody kids don't know the words to "when you're smiling". So me and the ten-year-old have been migrating round the Walkers this season, in search of the elusive 'atmosphere'. I reckon Milan has hidden it somewhere, and he's just waiting for the "lucky fan" to find it, and win a signed matchball. We've tried sitting side on (it's like the East Stand used to be, I tell him, only with vertigo) and we've tried various places in the so-called Kop. Finally, last week, we actually found somewhere where there was some noise - at the back of SK4. The result? Despite having not much to watch for the second half but Dean Windass' backside, the ten-year-old came out the ground asking "when is the next game?" And when asked where he wanted to sit for tomorrow's match, he said, "the singing end". I know it's free in the family stand for kids, but frankly, it's a fiver well spent if it means he actually enjoys himself. All this is kind of to say, the petition is a good idea, and I've signed it. I hope the club pays attention because the location of family stand is frankly bizarre, and if there's going to be a 'hard core' of Leicester supporters, they ought to be behind one of the goals, and not at the back of L1 where the players can never see or hear them. Singing your hearts out for the lads is part of what makes football the sport of the masses, and it saddens me that the generation that have grown up with all-seater, library-style football stadia, just don't get what that means. Swapping the kop and the family stand would be a big step forward in the search for an atmosphere at the Walkers. And maybe they could follow it up by ripping out some of the seats, too.

Great first post there are people on this forum who have made 5000 posts who have never made such a good comment the only thing ive got agaunst moving the kop to the family end is the sun is always in your eyes there. Maybe we should build a new ground?
leftsideoverhere Posted 13 February 2009 Posted 13 February 2009 Or put another tier on the South End, that should block out the sun.
taffyfox Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Agree that something has to be done. Living in Wales I only get to see around 6 or 7 home games each season and usually go with the old man (originally from Leicester) who gave me the bug of singing in the old Spion Kop at Filbo. I too have tried various places in the 'Kop' and have yet to enjoyed the atmosphere as it is like sitting in a library at times. A move would be great but surley there must be a way of getting all those who want to make some noise to congregate in the same place. Lets get all those that have moved to L1 back in the Kop, and get the club to promote this.... It was the same when Wales first moved to the Millenium Stadium.... various groups were spread all over the ground and the atmosphere was shite! Then the Welsh FA got together with supporters and promoted a 'singing end' in the North stand for £10 I thoughthis was a shit idea but in fairness, it worked... even when we only get 20,000 ina 75,000 arean, we still generate some noise. Worth an idea? Leeds game / s***thorpe game? lets try and get everyone who wants to have a drink and make some noise all get together....... Let us Stand and let us swear and sing.......
Narborough Bod Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 With the renewal policy, aren't there going to be a shit load of ST holders who don't renew by March / April etc which will mean areas of seats becoming available all over the ground. Instead of / alongside a petition, could someone approach the club looking for areas in the South or North stand where mass seats have become available. Then all the members on here could relocate. I've always been a kopite but over the past 5 seasons have become more and more apathetic. I'd move though if we could bring back the atmos.
leicesterseddon Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 the club will do nothing. fans have to decide between themselves where noisier fans should congregate. this has happened at every single new-style bowl stadium. people are spread out all over the place at the minute and hopefully this may change. but don't expect the club to do anything to help fans in this situation. this is the same club that plays music when we score and hey jude before kick-off. the same club that replaced the PHG with american cheerleading music when we moved and only re-instated it after a fan backlash. the club doesn't want to do anything to promote atmosphere and we all know that, so looking to them is not pissing in the wind but in a hurricane.
