Freesat

In an attempt to overcome the mind numbing frustration caused by a poor freeview signal I've invested in a Freesat box. In my block of flats we have a communal satellite dish and a socket in the wall to connect to it.

My question is what cable do I need to connect the Freesat to the socket in the wall? I've had a look around the internet and these issues seem to be dominated by cable geeks who never actually give a straight answer.

Please help!

how much is a freesat box?

They vary massively. Ours is just a budget SD one from Argos for £50. Cheapest I could find that seemed like it would actually work.

Need a female - female fly lead apparently. Although I thought I needed a coaxal or something. Hmm.

interesting.

I definitely want to do this too. I have 2 channels at the moment, and my tv hardly works.

But I know I need to get an installation setup because my aerial is crap and there's no dish either

Just looking into this too. Was looking at a new TV with it built in but decided against that.

A good box is £100 but you can use an old sky box. Just find someone who has recently upgraded to sky + and get them to give you their old box.

I am being quoted £80 for installation of a dish etc.

It's an 'F' type socket you need. Exactly the same as what goes into a Sky satellite receiver.

Argos have got Bush High Def boxes at the minute, reduced from £140 odd quid, down to £98. I bought one last Sunday. You get a free HDMI cable in the box as well (albeit a 1 metre one)

Just downgraded from Sky+ to Freesat and I have to say I'm less excited than you lot. lol

Straight swap though, if you've ever had Sky. In fact we're still using our + box.

Aye I couldn't believe I didn't even have SSN. :(

I'm sure it's on Freeview?

It is and you don't get Dave or Virgin1 on Freesat either I don't think, it's just the main 5 channels and a couple of ITV and BBC High def ones

A colleague just bought a Panasonic telly with built in HD Freesat on my recommendation (she trusts me on these things for some reason) and I got to see it at the weekend and in all honesty it's brilliant.

It's the first time I've seen a flat screen telly that I really thought was worth the money. The Freesat HD broadcasts look amazing. It's got built in freeview as well, so you get SSN.

I'd buy one myself if I a) had the money b) you could get a HD PVR for a hell of a lot less than you can at the minute

Are they on FreeVIEW?

:cry::cry::cry:

It's ok though because not only do you get Wedding tv but you get Wedding tv +1 as well!!

surely that has to make up for losing Dave?

Are they on FreeVIEW?

yes they are something about them being coded for sat transmission and will not be coming in the future either
