Fox63 Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 tbh i respect anyones belief that a god exists wether they are christian, muslim, hindu or such like but to me it just seems obsurd that even the notion of an intelligent being that can create worlds just like that and can create life willy nilly exists.there is no such thing as god, jesus, allah, vishnu, or whatever you want to call it its just a collection of beliefs that over thausands of years has wormed its way into the public mind. its just the same as santa claus he doesnt exist but a man that created the whole universe in 7 days that i can see being true religion is just a bunch of people fighting over who has the biggest invisible friend. Love that quote.....gonna use that in the future.
stez Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 Darwin = GodDawkins = Jebus FACT! jacob marley = holy ghost?
Zingari Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 jacob marley = holy ghost? holy ghost = toast
FilboFox Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 To me, creationism is just utter rubbish... I can't understand how anyone can believe such tosh. To believe that everything was created by someone or something and placed here!?! What about the dinosaurs? What about the clear facts that we have about things that have evolved over time!?! I know many will find arguments against Darwinism but to me, all of them are just rubbish and don't even start to justify the belief that there is a "God" up there somewhere... scientists have found facts... proof... whatever you want to call it that things have evolved and most probably so have we... then there is also the fact that we know that we have only been around for a tiny proportion of the earths lifetime which contradicts everything about the whole "everything made in 7 days" or whatever that crap is that is found in the bible... it just beggers belief how people can believe such clearly made up stuff probably with the soul purpose of keeping peasants in order many century's back... I know that many will want to believe in something like "God" which is fine, I'm not hold it against them but I just cannot get my head around it as to me, it, as I've already said, is just utter rubbish. I can't stand any religion as it's the cause of so much tension and violence between people and to be honest, I'm fairly sure we'd be better off without it! It's just my beliefs so I'm not having a go at anyone but I can't comprehend how people believe it and in the face of such an abundance of facts supporting Darwinism, it's the only option for me which makes any sense...

FilboFox Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 Nowhere near half believe in evolution. Over 5 billion people in the world believe in a Creator. So do I. Nothing I have ever seen could just appear without a designer/creator. Even something as simple as a pencil. So for someone to tell me there wasn't a designer/creator behind the most complex things in the universe (us, plants, animals, planets etc.) makes me wonder how they believe that.As for the big bang, here's a quote from the Koran 1400 years ago : "Have not the unbelievers seen how the heavens and the earth were once one? Then We clove them asunder and are steadily expanding them". Science now shows us that stars are slowly and steadily moving away from us (this point is not even debatable, it is known fact). So this suggests that the universe is steadily expanding. And if the universe is steadily expanding that would also suggest that if we went back in time we would come to a point where everything was one (or joined together). As for evolution, I know alot of people believe in it without one piece of evidence so that belief is the same in believing in an invisible force. The fact is there isn't any evidence for evolution at all. That's why it's called 'The Evolution Theory'. I am fairly sure that in years to come 'evolution' will be seen as what it has already been proved to be by many scientists. A wrong theory like many others over the years. Why aren't I at Bristol? Then I could of stayed out of this! Scientists have already gone down that route and come up with the answer which makes more sense that someone or something creating everything... What they believe is that the universe is continuously expanding and retracting over billions or trillions of years. Every time the universe retracts far enough, planets, stars etc. smash into one another again causing the "Big Bang" theory to come into effect which then starts the process of everything expanding because of the gigantic force created from the explosion, planets being recreated through gravital forces drawing particles together as is believed this earth created, until it reaches a point trillions of years later where the central gravity of all the planets and stars starts to draw everything back in together again. So in effect, we are just in a continuing cycle which happens again and again... perhaps backing once again the idea of evolution as in this case, it would be the universe evolving over time...
Edmund Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 Nah, the devil didn't put him here Anyone else watching the new series he has been narrating on : Nature's Great Events. Brilliant program.

Edmund Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 nah i've not been watching his one, david attenborough new series on the other hand..... Are we thinking of the same thing? http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/_proxy_/episo...The_Great_Melt/ It's only two episodes in.
BoneDog Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 To be honest, I think that religion is for the weak and the naive. These are people who need to be guided in one way or another. They believe that writings and theories from hundereds and sometimes thousands of years ago. Well I aint weak or naive. And I don't need to be guided by anyone. I have always used my own mind in life in all matters. I am in my thirties now and have only just started to believe there is more to this life than we are led to believe. There are plenty of people who believe in a creator who are some of the strongest minded people. You might see plenty of nutters about and on tele who obviously haven't a clue but there's more who use their minds. I would say you are naive if you believe that all that exists is only what you can see or touch. Don't know about weak, never met you.
stez Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 Are we thinking of the same thing?http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/_proxy_/episo...The_Great_Melt/ It's only two episodes in. aye, we are. you got richard and david mixed up though it's a good series though....and hopefully this week i won't be so tired that i fall asleep half way through....again!
Phube Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 You should read "The Blind Watchmaker". Very thought provoking!
BoneDog Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 there is no such thing as god, jesus, allah, vishnu, or whatever you want to call it its just a collection of beliefs that over thausands of years has wormed its way into the public mind. There is no such thing as a Jesus?! What? He was definately a man who lived 2000 years ago. No doubt about that. Every single historian out there has no doubt on that matter. Do you believe there was no Pharoahs either? Of course you don't because of the evidence they left behind. Well, Jesus left plenty of evidence of his existence and I don't mean the Bible. Plenty of other evidence because he had a major effect on the world around him at the time. You might of meant that Jesus is not God? I totally agree with you there, he was just a man like the rest of us. The Creative force/God or whatever people say is not a man obviously.

There isn't any proof of that... and to be quite honest, from some of the stuff that the Bible says he is supposed to have done, I find it difficult to believe that he existed at all either!
BoneDog Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 Stars move towards and away from us. Anyway empty I can see deja vu here. Ready for another science Vs religion debate?Waits anxiously for youtube videos Correct, stars do move towards and away. Far, far more are moving away and all scientists agree on the big bang don't they? The universe is expanding. Fact I honestly don't mind/bother about what anyone believes or if they think I'm stupid for what I believe. That's life when people ridicule you for having a slightly different belief. You will find that most people actually think that they understand things more than others. It's human nature. Not me though. I used to but not now.
Phube Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 There isn't any proof of that... and to be quite honest, from some of the stuff that the Bible says he is supposed to have done, I find it difficult to believe that he existed at all either! Jebus = Real Son of God = NO!
Zingari Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 The following quote from Stephen F. Roberts sums up the situation very nicely: "I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."
BoneDog Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 i think bluntly is the only way some people will realise the sillyness of this one true creator thing is silly. Why cant people just realise that we evolved from molecules and bacteria and got to where we are today by EVOLUTION its been proved by scientists yet people always use the prove to me god doesnt exist excuse.we are proof god doesnt exist we didnt just land on earth how we are today it took hundreds of thausands of years to get where we are today. Totally untrue. Evolution has never been proved. Proved wrong yes. We never took hundreds of thousands of years to get here! Humans were humans from the beginning. If you truly believe that we used to be different creatures, you are as silly as the religious people you say are silly. Quite funny really what people believe cos of a few theories!
BoneDog Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 if you need more reason to believe that god doesnt exist check out the film Religulous it is a farenheit 9/11 type documentary that is hosted by Bill Maher an american comedian who quite frankly whoops religions ass at every turn. HAHAhahaha. Yes he whoops religion does he? Not at all, he whips a few freaks and picks and chooses his targets. Bill is involved with groups who want to discredit religion, but I suppose you think he's an honest person and would never mislead his fans. Too many believe what these celebrities say. It's hilarious. Love that quote.....gonna use that in the future. Go for it!!
