Finchy Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 Whaaay come on Englanddd! The Premiership IS the best league in the world.
Darkzzz_ Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 Penalty lottery. Well done to the English teams, take my hat off to them all. Great for the league for sure, even if I only wanted one of them through (Man Utd) Overall I am very happy with the Barca show tonight. It will take a special team to stop them, I can only see Man Utd doing that.
Simi Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 After watching both the United and Liverpool matches, it is absolutely unbelievable how far the English teams are ahead of everyone else. Real Madrid were an embarrasment to the competition. For the first half hour they didn't compete. How can a team like Real not maintain the ball with simple passes? They had nothing, they were second to everything and allowed 'Pool to hurry them and it paid off for the Scousers. Then Inter, who weren't as bad but they were so one dimensional it was unreal. Ball to Ibrahimovic, he'd take it down and pass it backwards for the move to breakdown. United had Rooney, Ronaldo, Giggs, Scholes and Berbatov available to recieve the ball all of the time. So many options and when you play at a high tempo it can be devastating. I can honestly see all the English clubs making the semi's if they avoid each other. I realise Barca are a force as are Bayern, but they've proved no match for English sides in years gone by.
lildave3 Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Come on Fenerbache.Oh, shit sorry, there out. Anyway, as much as I dislike Arsenal, even I don't mind them going through this round. Man United v Liverpool final is what i'm hoping for. Would be pretty nifty.
GLC Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 SSN had great coverage of the penalty shootout Great to watch
Tilley Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Yes Arsenal ! As 'Milktray said.. What a penalty by Kolo.
Darkzzz_ Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Anyway, as much as I dislike Arsenal, even I don't mind them going through this round. Man United v Liverpool final is what i'm hoping for. Would be pretty nifty. I hate Arsenal. But fair play to them and the rest of the English sides. The money and the power is certainly with them. I still think Liverpool are going to nick it.
Tilley Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Arsenal fan stabbed in the leg ahead of Roma match. How much longer are Roma going to get away with this? It happens every single time a team goes over there. They should lose the final & be banned from Europe. They make me sick, fucking wankers.

It happens every single time a team goes over there. They should lose the final & be banned from Europe. They make me sick, fooking wankers. Your right, the majority of them are ****s. Some decent ones. When I watched them you could see the people who cause the problems, they make themselves known. Most teams in Italy take minimal away following when they go to Rome because they know the violence that they cause. They are animals. The fans need to be sorted out once and for all. The downfall yet again of Italian football, which has been resurrected on the pitch especially in the league this season, minus the CL failure of them all, in which Juve only really deserved something if anyone. I hope Uefa can step in and do something, but guess what, they probably won't.
Floating Fox Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 I hope Uefa can step in and do something, but guess what, they probably won't. Mainly 'cos it isn't English fans giving it out. 'Meh. Unfair and pathetic, but them's the rules with the crazy frogman involved.
Darkzzz_ Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Mainly 'cos it isn't English fans giving it out. 'Meh. Unfair and pathetic, but them's the rules with the crazy frogman involved. Yeah, to be fair you are right. The English fans are no angels by all means and have been punished a lot in the past. But some of these idiots, ruin it for others, It is well documented how much I love Italian and Spanish football but some of the fans out there disgust me. And as for the crazy frogman.... pfffftttttt Looking forward to the draw now, Barca will almost certainly meet a English team I feel. Would love a Barca v Bayern final. The amount of technical ability on show would be awesome.

I realise Barca are a force as are Bayern, but they've proved no match for English sides in years gone by. Fair comment Ched. The results don't lie of course and fair play to the English teams that went through. But to be honest, only Liverpool you could say comprehensively outplayed Real Madrid. I don't think there was much difference between the other teams, Man Utd weren't that great last night (but are certainly world beaters) and If Inter had someone who could actually score then who knows. Juve were the better side against Chelsea the other night, It was certainly a close run thing as was the drab game between Roma and Arsenal which went to the lottery of penalties. I did read a lot of fans saying they would walk these games, it wasn't the case from where I was watching. I applaud the Italian teams for effort and the English teams for making it through. Whilst I say that, I am fully aware that the power is with the English sides, the premier league is becoming something else, even if I don't enjoy it as much as I used to, A super power of world football, they have the money, the foriegn talent but one thing they lack is great English talent in abudance like other European countries have. I am sure that will be improved and I for one, hope it is because it is important for our game. Oh and on a side note, hats off to Ferdinand and Vidic, I don't think there is a better defensive pairing tham these two.
lavrentis Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Gutted Panathinaikos are out. If they drew an english team, I would have gone to see them
purpleronnie Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Whaaay come on Englanddd! The Premiership IS the best league in the world. Come on england ???? Loads of english players playing. Top 4 in the premiership is the best , but I think La Liga has more depth.
Darkzzz_ Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Come on england ???? Loads of english players playing.Top 4 in the premiership is the best , but I think La Liga has more depth. That is the unfortunate thing, A lot of people think that it is the English players that are making the teams here what they are. It is only because of the foreign talent and the money that has put the English sides where they are now.

Darkzzz_ Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Who thinks that? You're making it up. Now, now. I didn't say people on this forum, because most of them here are decent, fair and knowledgeable in regards to football. I am speaking about certain articles I have read and people's posts on numerous football forums.
Uncle Albert Posted 12 March 2009 Author Posted 12 March 2009 Top 4 in the premiership is the best , but I think La Liga has more depth. Yea righto. Yet again someone talk some utter bollocks referring to the La Liga v Premier League debate. How can anyone say that the La Liga has more depth to it? Jesus christ.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Yea righto.Yet again someone talk some utter bollocks referring to the La Liga v Premier League debate. How can anyone say that the La Liga has more depth to it? Jesus christ. Ever heard of the UEFA Cup?
Katy Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Oh yes.I love it Katy. I love it all You're in for a treat tomorrow night ain't ya ?? I was? Have I missed something but why is there not a UEFA cup thread? PSG kick off soon!
purpleronnie Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Ever heard of the UEFA Cup? Exactly what I was going to post, but its pointless in his mind everything english is the best. Just a sheep who believes everything he hears on sky sports. Having watched a huge amount of spanish football and premiership I can tell you most of the lower half of the prem wouldnt cope in La Liga but I think most if not all La Liga teams could at least cope in the Prem. Top 4 prem is stronger at the moment no question, but the rest are pretty hopeless. If you cant see that you're deluded. You see some premiership teams are better than La Liga teams and some La Liga teams are better than premiership teams. There nice and simple. Its called a balanced view point. You'll have one...someday.

Its called a balanced view point. You'll have one...someday. It's fascinating at the moment to watch a total clash in styles between teams like Liverpool and their incredible levels of fitness and then Real Madrid who have great technical ability but aren't used to being chased all over the pitch for 90 minutes. That just doesn't happen in La Liga. The Premiership is just getting quicker and quicker, and the rest of Europe is struggling to cope. I've seen Valencia a few times this season and they've looked quality although have obviously dipped in form lately. They're 8th in La Liga while Man City are currently 8th in the Premiership. That says it all to me. The megabucks have put them up just behind the top four but they're still largely veering between inconsistent and garbage. As for the people who whinge about Arsenal and their lack of foreigners, how many English goalscorers were there in the Champions League last 16, eh? And if you count the penalties Arsenal took, it changes again doesn't it?
Uncle Albert Posted 12 March 2009 Author Posted 12 March 2009 Ever heard of the UEFA Cup? Funnily enough, yes. Exactly what I was going to post, but its pointless in his mind everything english is the best. Just a sheep who believes everything he hears on sky sports. Having watched a huge amount of spanish football and premiership I can tell you most of the lower half of the prem wouldnt cope in La Liga but I think most if not all La Liga teams could at least cope in the Prem.Top 4 prem is stronger at the moment no question, but the rest are pretty hopeless. Its called a balanced view point. You'll have one...someday. Yes I base my football around Sky Sports News. And from also watching a huge amount of La Liga crap and the Premier League I can tell you that a number of Premier League teams could comfortably survive in La Liga. The top four yes is strong but I think you are the deluded one if you cant see that Everton and Aston Villa are hot on the chase of the top four. We have Spurs only just losing on penalties to Utd in the Carling Cup Final, Everton in the semi's of the F.A Cup. Man City doing well in the UEFA Cup and will no doubt be challeneging the top four within a few year. I think you must be very deluded to call La Liga a better league, more depth in the league and a better quailty of football. Liverpool crushing Real Madrid in the manner they did said it all about the differences between the Leagues. Just hope another English team can play Barce in the next round and pound them bithches to the ground aswell.
Finchy Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 They just get too much time on the ball in the European game, when they play English sides they can't deal with it. We play a very physical game over here and it may not be as pretty but it's effective, as has been proved over the last 2 days.
