BlabyFox Posted 27 February 2009 Posted 27 February 2009 Just not right I'm not racist but surely british sufferers should come first?! 'Hundreds of Britons die every year because they can't get a transplant' I'm sure i'll get branded racist for saying Britons should come first
Fosse Boy Posted 27 February 2009 Posted 27 February 2009 COULD TEENAGE SEX DEVALUE YOUR PETS? WILL THE E.U. IMPREGNATE MIDDLE BRITAIN? ARE THE POLES GIVING HOUSE PRICES DIABETES? WILL BRUSSELS BUREAUCRATS DEVALUE THE BRITISH PEOPLE? COULD THE METRIC SYSTEM RUIN THE COUNTRYSIDE? The Mail is a brilliant newspaper. Viva Fred Bassett!
Flynny Posted 27 February 2009 Posted 27 February 2009 In fairness this sounds a bit dodgy. It's not a case of immigrants getting things over British people, which shouldn't matter so much, but a case of people coming here expressedly for transplants and then leaving. Doesn't sound fair to me. Having read this fully, credit to the Daily Mail; for once, this article isn't deliberately inflammatory and encourages the readers to empathise: Few of those foreigners who have received a transplant in Britain are aware of the growing controversy. They are simply grateful to this country and our doctors for their lifesaving treatment.

'Hundreds of Britons die every year because they can't get a transplant' I'm sure i'll get branded racist for saying Britons should come first No, I wouldn't call you a racist, but look at it from another point of view: Foreign health security and private funds pay for these operations, which means £££ for hospitals and maybe better treatment of (British) patients in general? Personally I wouldn't care what nationality the sufferer is, as long as the person is a decent human being. Also, is this rule EU-wide or is it a special rule that applies to the UK/NHS?
Daggers Posted 27 February 2009 Posted 27 February 2009 I have a sneaky feeling those bastard foreigners breath our red, white and British air for free as well. Good blue-rinse air which could have been used to keep a war pensioner alive or help a plucky British disabled athlete prepare for the Special Olympics. Instead it is being sucked into the lungs of bleeding heart liberals who will happily sell us all down the river while Nazi paedo gay shark perverts oxygenate themselves at who's expense? At our bloody expense that's who! Bloody bleeding bastard foreigners.

Thracian Posted 27 February 2009 Posted 27 February 2009 Blame the people who make the rules. Not anyone else. The Mail is just a far-right shit stirring bullshit paper. Fact. Seeking to blandly discredit the source is a weak way of avoiding the subject and one which is used constantly and with ever increasing desperation because, generally, there is no credible way of defending the way Labour treat the very people it once courted and now treats as lowlife. Not that I would necessarily wish to highlight the subject with this particular example. There no need to. Other examples abound. I had to laugh this morning when a mischievous customer came up to my stall with his mobile phone to his ear... "Hello minister, Sir Fred Goodwin here. Just to say if those concessions I made about my pension details are agreed as you indicated, at £693,000 then I'm happy to go along with it. Mind you, if you could show a bit of mercy and perhaps nod your head at £750,000 a year, you know my number and shouldn't hesitate to call. Regards to Gordon if you see him. And if you ever need a relaxing holiday somewhere sunny don't ever hesitate to get in touch."

Shrenchel Posted 28 February 2009 Posted 28 February 2009 Whatever your opinion on the matter, quoting the daily mail as your only source in the argument is like citing hitler as your only example when arguing that moustaches dont make you look like a fooking nazi,
Webbo Posted 28 February 2009 Posted 28 February 2009 Lets just get this straight, are all the people who are calling the Daily Mail saying that the original story at the start of this thread is a total fabrication?
BoneDog Posted 28 February 2009 Posted 28 February 2009 Lets just get this straight, are all the people who are calling the Daily Mail saying that the original story at the start of this thread is a total fabrication? Not me. I believe the story. My point is : don't let stories like this deflect your blame onto those who have no part in it. All I say is blame the people who allow these things. (not that I'm saying this case is wrong, I think it's fair enough). Most things the Mail complain about get blamed on immigrants, when the blame should be laid firmly on the people who make the rules. It's a hate rag
Guest Posted 28 February 2009 Posted 28 February 2009 The mail tells the truth. Comedy post of the year. Lets just get this straight, are all the people who are calling the Daily Mail saying that the original story at the start of this thread is a total fabrication? It could be a gross misrepresentation of the facts. It didn't tell me, when quoting its figures, if the organs that have been donated to foreigners are because they were not compatible with the British donors on the register. It also chose a figure of 795 transplants going to foreigners, because it looks like a huge amount, by which point the apoplectic Mail reader has burst a blood vessel before he or she sees that that is over a 10 year period. It also says, in a passing comment, that Britons are allowed to go to the EU for transplants, but don't. What it doesn't say is that Britons take advantage of other medical procedures across the EU, without it costing the patient.

It's a hate rag Well I get the Mail on Sunday most weeks and that's not the impression I get. I just get so bored with the 'if it's in the Mail it must be wrong' attitude that I read on here a lot, mainly by people who've never read it.

I certainly didn't burst a blood vessel, normally I skip stories like this because I'm not interested. All newspapers have an agenda it just happens that the Mail's is right of centre, that's why it's always denigrated. The Mirror was actually proven to have faked photographs in it's anti Iraq war coverage yet I never read any critisism of that.

In other words that the story is probably truthful but slanted and economical with the choice of facts used. Big deal and plus one on the Labour party. Cos they're often slanted but downright dishonest as well. And never more so than recently.

The Mirror was actually proven to have faked photographs in it's anti Iraq war coverage yet I never read any critisism of that. Some of them could of been faked but there are plenty that weren't and those stories of what went on (still going on) are not lies. I've personally seen videos/photos from friends who were there (even in '91) of stupid and disgusting stuff that I think is bang out of order, but some folks enjoy doing it. And that makes us just as bad as what we are supposed to be trying to stop. EDIT : sorry, I'm not tryin to start another debate!

The Mirror was actually proven to have faked photographs in it's anti Iraq war coverage yet I never read any critisism of that. You wouldn't. It's very hard to be critical of anything anti-War without being shouted down. I don't believe in the Iraq war either . It is obscene and based on a chapter of deception by Good Christian Blair. But that doesn't mean there shouldn't have been scathing criticism of The Mirror, if, of course, there is anyone left who takes that bit of bog paper seriously.
