Father Ted Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 January 14th. I remember now, they've got that Bryan Gunn...
bluebeau Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 I've got to agree with just about everything that has been said, so I ain't gonna repeat. But if Norwich do go down to Div. 1, the answer to get back to the Championship is so simple....get a bloody good manager!! Easier said than done of course, look at us, it took Milan 2 seasons & God knows how many managers before he found Nigel Pearson. Like someone said previously, I don't think you have got the right guy in charge right now, even though I am sure he has green & yellow blood flowing thru his body. That's it except to say to you, thanks for letting us have Martin O'Neil, The Messiah. Good luck & hope you manage to stay up.
Simi Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 A lot of good points made in this thread, especially the one about who we got relegated with. Looks like there will be a hell of a lot of competition down here next season, I'm certainly thankful that it doesn't look like we're going to be involved. Potentially, Charlton, Norwich and Southampton all fighting for promotion with the likes of Leeds next season. NONE of those teams can afford to stay in League 1 for long periods. I really worry for the ones that don't come straight back up because it's a downward slope from there I'm afriad, look at Bradford as a prime example.
kimsalabim Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 thanks guys, the worry i have is we don't have the money of Mandaric, you don't seem to have lost too many players since your relegation other than Hume and Mcauley. When we're down i doubt we'll be able to keep Clingan and Croft. We have a few decent youngsters coming through but they haven't been given a chance so maybe being in League1 will give us a chance to blood them and with 20,000 season tickets expected to be sold we should just about be able to raise enough money to bring in a few players, whether they'll be of the standard to take us up i don't know. I could talk for hours about our useless board but they'll never **** off unless somebody makes them a decent offer so we'll have to make do.Will be hard watching Norwich in the third tier of english football as we've never been down there during my lifetime but i suppose we have to face up to it. To be honest with the exception of Kisnorbo and Fryatt... The players we lost i.e. Hume and Especially McAuley, were part of a Leicester team which failed for seasons on end... There (if of course, the worst happens) will be players leave Norwich that you do not particularly want to see go, however they should be allowed to leave, create a new spine of the team (as we did with Tunchev, Oakley (Had only been here 6 months), King (youth product), Howard (same boat as Oakley), and Fryatt (First run in the team for years... Add some class players that are hungry i.e Jack Hobbs, Michael Morrison, Max Gradel, Kerrea Gilbert... Whether that be permanently or on loan... and you will have the makings of a side that can blow through League one at the first attempt... (Some people have squeaky bums but we have to remember that we have only lost 2 games all season). I wouldn't worry about players like Clingan and Croft as they are already "established" and it's their fault you are in this situation in the first place... If viewed correctly, it's a great opportunity to be out with the old and in with the new... If we had beat Stoke last season, we probably would have kept Holloway, kept players that were, and let's be honest, not passionate enough to wear the shirt, and we would probably be in the same position as we were last season... Whether or whether or not the finiances can handle it is another matter, but of course the situation can be helped by havin real fans turn up in crowds of 18-20,000 for league one matches... I'm not a perfect fan... I had hardly been to a Championship game since we were relegated under Micky Adams, however, as soon as we were relegated i made a decision to start coming to games again... And this season has been one of the best seasons i have seen in relation to feel-good factor etc. I really don't think a relegation is all bad news for clubs in the situation you are in and we were in last season... Best of luck... But if your experience of League One (of course if that is where you and up) is like ours you will soon forget the negativity of the past few seasons that supporters of both clubs have had to endure... BTW... THERE'S ONLY ONE NIGEL PEARSON, AND MATTY FRYATT, AND MAXI GRADEL, AND STEVE HOWARD AND MATT OAKLEY AND... you get my point
Scow Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 2) getting relegated from the championship with the best defensive record in the whole division - first time that has happened i think I think we had the second best record - only Palace beating us. As a few others have mentioned in this thread, the key is attitude. You've seen the likes of Forest, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and Manchester City get relegated to this level and they have all found it hard to get back up. It was only the latter that was able to bounce back after a year and even that was through the play-offs.
The Stig Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 when did he get the chop? When did Nigel Worthington go?

Why are they exceptions/excused for the poor seasons prior to this one? And let's just dispell that myth that Fryatt hasn't had his chances before this season. Despite how good he's been this year, he's been shoïte for the largest part of the past two seasons: 2005/6: 18 + 1 apps, 6 goals, 2 ass. 2006/7: 23 + 11 apps, 4 goals, 1 ass. 2007/8: 22 + 9 apps, 2 goals, 1 ass. source Thats 12 goals and 4 assists in 63 + 21 apps, in two and a half seasons. He played his part in our relegation for sure. There!
Munzie Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 There isn't much alternative entertainment 'round here. Other than turnips and relatives
Scow Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 Other than turnips and relatives Not forgetting tractors, spine in a bap (or baguette) and the Linton Travel Tavern.
Kilworthfox Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 hi i'm a Norwich City fan and you probaly know our position in the championship is looking rather precarious. Just wanted to hear how you've managed to turn it around this season as our fall mirrors yours considerbaly. You were an average championship side for a couple of years before your relegation like we have been and just wondered whether you feel relegation has given your club the opportunity to "start again"?Heres to playing Leicester back in the top flight in a few years where both clubs belong This division is AWFUL! If you like tin pot players, hearing drivel from Leeds fans about how everyone is against them, getting nob heads at home games as it is their big day out for the year. The 1st day of the season did it for me, MK Dons at home, they struggled to keep the ball in the 2 very long lines that stretch down the pitch. Control and touch is something only LCFC players have heard of in thid division. I can pick a few decent sides that I have seen this season.... ready: Oldham Stockport Bristol Rovers Huddersfield Every other side just amalgamated into another crap team. If you wish I can find a post I wrote 3 games into the season stating exactly what has happened this season. I think I will for you! If you players are: Lazy Don't give a fook I am a footballer & bigger than your crap club Have little speed of thought Can't finish easy chances Create little against crap sides You will struggle! Remember leicester only scraped their way to relegation, they were not "that" bad IMO. If you wish to recall we beat you 4 - 0 near the end of the season when were were poor. Obviously performances like that were rare!

davieG Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 If i was you i would stick with your manager if you go down hes one of afew who actually cares about the club hes managing Having someone who cares is not a guarantee of success although it can help. Walshie cares about LCFC but I wouldn't want him as a manager.
CosbehFox Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Its easy to say, for us, that getting relegeted was good for the club...Because it has been, but look at Forest & Leeds. They have spent (and by the look of Leeds - Will spend) lots of seasons in this division, I don't think they'd agree. Say it quietly but some Forest fans think it was for the better. It reassessed the high opinion of themselves and allowed the team to stop becoming that club of the journeymen to that of young products and lads from lower leagues. It's all to do with attitude and starting the season well. On the whole, our fans have stayed content and combined with the good start; the attitude and belief's been spot on. Pearson's signings have been extraordinary as well esp. when you consider the younger lads don't have a trophy to their name.
GloverFox Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 If you go to the likes of Yeovil or Brighton with a "this is beneath us" mentality you'll lose points and can very quickly have everyone else thinking, "if they can take points off em, so can we."Good preparation, hard work and concentration come first and getting a team together who expect to work for each other every week is a good part of the recipe we've used. ... 'the nail on the head' ... that's been half the problem for Leeds, they actually think they 'deserve' to go up just on the big name , but the smaller (but equally as determined and gritty teams, such as Yeovil) will play the league encounters like its an FA Cup game and they simply don't just roll over and die. It's damned hard work in League 1. I honestly feel it's made Leicester a better club, eating some humble pie and not just sat crying over being relegated. The management at the club has worked hard, the players even harder. Yes, we are extremely fortunate to retain some class players and yes; the appointment of Pearson has been a top-class 'blessing' but with honesty we all know we deserved to be in League 1 after last season and needed that 'collective' kick up the backside (fans included in that collective). For me personally it's been an enjoyable season 'so far' (but as has been pointed out ... we are winning games ... and it really helps!!!) and some of the football has been totally enthralling and good quality ... but I can't wait for a return back up to the championship ... as I can't wait for another go at the Premier League!!!
