The Reverend Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Khan did look good, but that's made a lot easier by his opponent only having one eye. I like Khan, but this stoppage proves nothing at all. Exactly. The bout was decided by who came out worse in the clash of heads. Luckily for Khan, it was Berrera.
James. Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 The bout was decided by who came out worse in the clash of heads. Well, it was decided by the judges scorecard, all of which had Khan ahead. I'm not saying an element of luck wasn't involved but Khan WAS the superior fighter, unanimously.
Kilworthfox Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 I've watched more boxing than you've had hot dinners sunshine. To be fair daz only eats Salad

Yeah i agree with you, Khan was ahead, and was the better fighter, and on the 5 rounds, deserved to win. The thing is, no-one knows what he had planned, what he had up his sleeve, what his game plan was. Do you think that a multiple weight world champion would of continued to let Amir Khan batter him over the course of 12 rounds? I would like to think no.
Wezleylowski Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 McLovin could have taken a points decision over a cycloptic Barrera. When Khan beats a credible opponent (without a cut ruining the fight) the Khan doubters will give him a chance.

Wezleylowski Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Hes beat 1 of the best boxers of the last decade or more, and on points. Haha Barreras hardly in his prime is he. Barrera couldnt see out of one eye for 4 rounds, Khan could have picked him off all day. It's hardly a massive achievemnt is it.

I see your point, but Khans still building up a reputation for himself in the sport, and taking the scalp of somebody like Barrera regardless of him being in his prime or not will send out a message. Calzaghe picked off legends past there prime and he did alright for himself. Im a Khan fan so I'm obviously gonna be bias, but I do respect others opinions on him, even if I do find some frustrating.
AmericanScott Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Love it. In all seriousness though, I have yet to see the highlights. Maybe Khan might win me over. He has defeated a big gun.

Don't get me wrong Khans a fantastic fighter ,phonomenal hand speed, footwork, power the lot. And I disagree with alot of people saying he has a weak chin just because prescott knocked him out early doors, alot of great fighters get knocked out such as Lennox Lewis, it doesnt mean he has a weak chin. This is a good win for the lad but its marred by Barreras cut, who knows what would have happened if he didnt get cut? Khan is building a reputation correct but i wish people would stop talking him up so much because he still has alot to prove and this fight is just another rung on the ladder to what he wants to achieve. Would be interesting to see him fight Prescott again.
Thracian Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 :D Not seen it yet but my youngest's going to be pleased. We were sitting at the Millwall game discussing the Khan fight at halftime and I mentioned how the fight game worked best for box office fighters if there were rematches. Nipper couldn't see any way Khan would prevail but suddenly he was on his phone to his cousin and asking him to put £20 on Khan winning. I didn't see the fight but from what I've read it rather seems it should have been called off for cut from a headbutt (called by the referee) which meant that Berrera couldn't see properly. Sounds as if Khan fought well mind and scored freely with his fast hands. I've always liked the way the lad represented himself since his Olympics days and much preferred him as a British representative to Naseem Hamed, not that I even knew Amir was Muslim until I read it on the forum. He was just a lad who represented Britain in the Olympics. Interesting to hear the boxing gyms are now being filled with Asian-origin fighters though. In our wisdom we abandoned boxing in schools yet I think it should be a major sport and have long believed those gyms should be teeming with the ethnically English fighters too as was so much the case hears ago. In fact all our youngsters should be offered the opportunity to learn boxing and how to defend themselves properly. Boxing had nothing but a positive effect on my youngest and is an excellent discipline as are many other forms of self defence. The loss of boxing to celestial television has not helped the sport in this country and opponents of boxing should never have been heard. If those people didn't want to box they didn't have to. But they had no right to wet nurse others even for the hidden purpose of protecting themselves against insurance claims on health and safety grounds. People should have the choice and I see no reason why that should not happen.
Daz.I Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Khan is world class. Always has been since 16. Fast as fook and accurate. Alot of people are gonna be pissed off when he is champion of the world. He's just gonna get better I like this, I am a fan of amir khan and I'm not saying you should suck the guy off I'm just saying I don't see why you all hate him you can't even say he's cocky cause nazim was cocky and he's nothing like nazim McLovin could have taken a points decision over a cycloptic Barrera. When Khan beats a credible opponent (without a cut ruining the fight) the Khan doubters will give him a chance. behave yourself, so if barrera would have knocked khan out last night then all of a sudden barreras not washed up anymore and he go on to bigger things you can't say stuff like that. khan boxed brilliantly last night he really showed the technician in him getting in offloading covering up and getting back out, a younger amir khan would of try to finish it when he got barrera against the ropes but he's wisened up he looks brilliant. as the commentators were saying he will one day look back on that defeat to breidis prescott and say 'that changed my life'. Freddie roach argubly the best coach in the world claims he's 100% my next world champion and as for you tevez watched more boxing matches than you've had hot dinners shut up you dick whos your favourite boxer ricky hatton, muhamid ali.. you knock out freak!
dandannieldanok Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 I don't like Khan personally, but I wanted him to win last night and he duly delivered with a cracking performance. He's undoubtedly a very talented boxer.
Matt Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 I'll be honest I had Khan down for a battering last night, I totally forgot about the fight tbh, I certainly was going to pay for the fight because a) I'm not a huge fan of Khan - Because his fights are normally finished quick - Either him knocking them out, or him getting knocked out that once was pretty quick and b) At the moment i'm just not that bothered about Khan enought to pay for his fights, when he was on itv I always watched but it was free then, but to pay £15 I thought i'd give it a miss and try and find it on the internet, as I said I forgot about the fight until about 10.30pm last night (I think, forgot now) and then tried to find it on justin.tv I did, and caught the 4th round and then the 5th round till it was stopped, and Khan looked like he had battered him, so fair play to him. What reminded me about the fight was that I was on willhill.com and went into look at the odds and I saw Barrera at 4/1 and I thought WTF, I'll have a couple of quid on that, then I realized it said "Live bout betting".
Wezleylowski Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 So if barrera would have knocked khan out last night then all of a sudden barreras not washed up anymore and he go on to bigger things you can't say stuff like that. Barrera was expected to beat Khan. Whos saying he's washed up? Not me. If Khan beat Barrera without Barrera getting cut then I would have nothing but praise for him but he didn't. Also how can Barrera go on to better things? He's a legend of the ring, a multiple weight champion, what else can he achieve? Khan boxed brilliantly last night he really showed the technician in him getting in offloading covering up and getting back out, a younger amir khan would of try to finish it when he got barrera against the ropes but he's wisened up he looks brilliant. I'm not saying he didn't box well, but against a one eyed opponent he may have flattered to decieve. As the commentators were saying he will one day look back on that defeat to breidis prescott and say 'that changed my life'. I agree with this. I think getting well beaten early on in his carreer probably opened his eyes to the fact that if he didn't shape up then he could end up being another no hoper. Oh and well done for ignoring my other post. You are very quick to jump on anyone with any criticism of Khan are you related? Don't get me wrong Khans a fantastic fighter ,phonomenal hand speed, footwork, power the lot. JakeShingler Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Haters Haters Haters, I think Khan is a **** tbh.Every fight he will go to now will be his career decider. I think it would of been very different if it was staged in America.

To be honest dude I can see what your saying, and to me you strike me as boxing man, I'd gladly read what you have to say about the fight over most others in here who dont seem like they have a clue. Good man.

Cheers man. People never seem to form there own opinion on boxing, they just copy there mates . Guess it doesnt get enough TV coverage. Shame.
BoneDog Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 Just watched the whole fight on youtube and Khan was special. He's improved no end since training with Freddie Roach. The boy is goin to the top. Manny Pacquiao is also gonna beat Hatton May 2nd.
Dames Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 Kahn proved me wrong, Not that I don't like him i just didn't think he was quite ready to step up to someone of Barrera's level quite yet. As for Hatton, he's past it. Doesn't take care of himself well enough to continue fighting at the top.
