DJ Barry Hammond Posted 16 March 2009 Posted 16 March 2009 From BBC Sport 'Vidic handed two-match suspension Vidic was handed his red card by referee Alan Wiley on 76 minutes Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has been banned for two matches following his dismissal in Saturday's 4-1 Premier League defeat by Liverpool. The Serbian centre-half, 27, was shown a straight red card by referee Alan Wiley for hauling down Steven Gerrard. As it was his second red card of the season - the other also came against Liverpool at Anfield in September - Vidic is suspended for two games. He misses Saturday's trip to Fulham and the visit of Aston Villa on 5 April. United's game against Villa will be moved to 4 April if Sir Alex Ferguson's side are in action in the Champions League on 7 April.' Now I thought it was a 3 game ban for a straight red? And apparently this is an extended ban due to it being his second red card of the season? Whats going on here?
Milky Posted 16 March 2009 Posted 16 March 2009 Hobbs got a straight red at Bristol and only missed one game. 3 must be for violent conduct.
Joe. Posted 16 March 2009 Posted 16 March 2009 Absolutely torn a new arsehole by Torres on Saturday, it was comical how badly out-classed he was. He does like a good cynical challenge or two though doesn't he? His one on Martins the other week at Newcastle was pretty impressive.

Whats going on here? It's three matches for violent conduct, one for a professional foul. Because he's been sent off already it's two games. It was the same with Jack Hobbs after the Bristol Rovers game.

Doesn't discourage clear cheating like Vidic has been seen to do time and time again. (There was one against Inter Milan where he just through his body in the way of someone to stop him getting past, old school defending style.)

DOGSO is only one game because the team / player have been punished enough by playing a man short for the remainder of the game therefore only the one game suspension. When it comes to SFP or VC, however, a three game ban is the norm because they are much more severe. If you look in the County FA handbook (if you play for a team) then you'll see the different punishments for red card offences on page 180.

DOGSO? I guess SFP is serious foul play but I'm not familiar with noncey refereeing terms.

DB11 Posted 16 March 2009 Posted 16 March 2009 In regards to red card punishments, I do think it slightly strange that a player using foul & abusive language gets a 14 day ban and £15 fine but if he uses it at a match official (like my red card on Sunday ) then it's 35 day ban and £25 fine!!! That's a lot for 10 year old and what will feel like an age at this point in the season to be suspended for

You must have been having a mare to be inciting that sort of language from a minor!

Had no option really

DB11 Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 tut tut It was a big goal mouth scramble and I'd positioned myself opposite to the assistant so we had all angles covered. It happened on my blind side, however he'd seen it and so flagged. I'd found out that it was because the goalkeeper had wrapped his arms around the attacker and brought him to the ground.
Fox92 Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 How come Stevie Howard gets the same length (2 match) ban as Vidic? Howard picked up 10 yellow cards and this is a two match ban, but how come Vidic clattres through Gerrard who was through on goal and only gets a two match ban? 10 yellow cards and clattering through a player when he's through on goal should not warrant the same 2 match ban.

Rules are rules. Vidic gets his 2nd sending off of the season which warrants a 2 game ban. Howard gets his 10th booking of the season, which warrants a 2 game ban.
Father Ted Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 The Serbian centre-half They say I look like Vidic, I'm really Vidic in disguise

So under 11/10 matches in leicester get not only referees but linesman as well? Shit - most games in bristol you're lucky to get a ref! Club linesman are where it's at! (And please don't say you gave a pen on the advice of a club linesman!) So was the kid that swore at you the keeper? As warranted as the red card was couldn't you have just told the little one to 'go fook himself?'
