STONE ROSES TO REFORM?

From today's Mirror..

Madchester's finest The Stone Roses are re-forming for a summer tour.

At least 21 gigs have been planned for the UK and there are talks of a US date – possibly the Coachella Festival in California. The gigs will coincide with the re-release of the band’s self-titled debut album.

It first came out on March 13, 1989 and shot them to fame with hits including I Wanna Be Adored and I Am The Resurrection. It is regularly voted best album ever.

Singer Ian Brown, who has a solo career, was the only one not sure about re-forming. But he was persuaded by guitarist John Squire, bassist Mani and drummer Reni. A source said: “It’s taken a lot of time to get Ian to agree but he’s finally signed on the dotted line.

“The rest of the band were really up for it, especially when they realised the amount of money on the table.” Squire, who designed the album’s iconic cover, quit in 1996 amid rows with Ian. The pair are rumoured never to have spoken since.

Reni left the year before and Mani plays bass for Primal Scream, who he joined in 1996.

Last year Mani said he would love to do a reunion “before we are all fat and bald”.

After the Smiths, the Roses were probably THE top band to emerge during the 1980s.

Having missed out on them first time around, many music fans, myself included would be delighted to see the original line-up play live.

This is the same tabloid that confidently proclaimed the Smiths were reuniting this year.

While this time there are plenty of other media running the story, the NME appears less convinced... :(

Although rumours of a reunion have circulated for a while, it was believed Ian Brown would complete and release the solo album he is currently working on before any alternative project could be considered.

The timing of a summer tour would also prove problematic, with guitarist John Squire staging a major art exhibition this summer.

The show, Squire's biggest to date, kicks off in July 5 at the Gallery Oldham and in January the guitarist told NME.COM he would be concentrating on his art career this year.

"I've got a big show in Oldham and one in Austria and one at the end of the year in Tokyo," he said. "The Oldham show is in a major public gallery so it's a lot of work. It's the biggest show I've done."

Squire added that he didn't play guitar much these days as he was concentrating on art more

If this is true i'm definatly going back to coachella, but i cant see how they can fit it into everyones schedule. Plus they would have had to have been practicing for a while now, but we'll see

Delighted with this and would love to go to one of their gigs.

Anyone who isnt familiar with the Roses just grab the first albumn, I did and havn't looked back since, seen Ian Brown a fair few times live in his solo stuff but just doesn't seem right without the other 3.

Just really hoping its true.

I would rather see The Stone Roses this summer over Oasis.

I wanna believe it but i don't think it will happen.

Without the Stone Roses there would be no Oasis.

Depends because Oasis Have Sex Pistols and The Beatles influence aswell but Stone Roses played a big part in Oasis Early sound.

i'm guessing oasis are a hell of lot better live than the roses...

last time i saw ian brown, he stopped a song half way through and walked off, came back on did a nother song, and then did the failed song, it was cool but a bit unproffesional.

and by all accounts, even in their prime the roses were pretty weak live.

anyway, it's all bollocks, just publicity for the inevitable 20th anniversary reissue <_<

i've 'heard' squire wants it (cos he's done loads since, and the seahorses were.......grrrrrrrreat![/irony] ) reni wouldn't say no, and mani would be up for it. but ian brown is, apparently, putting the finishing touches to his new album. so may want to tour that instead.

i hope it doesn't happen
