Is there some accent quota that the script writers have not achieved over the years & they are making up for now? The bird from Eastenders who was in goodness gracious me & the fat geezer who works with Dev, and Dev's new bird, I don't mind but they do seem a bit forced. I have met many Asians & the vast majority speak with a accent which is the same as the local population. Why not show this reather than a OTT stereotype?

Obviously trying to apeal to the asian community, doesnt Dev own a corner shop as well

Right from Sanjay and Gita in Eastenders in the 80's til now I can't think of one Pakistani. I haven't watched Enders for 10 years though so might be wrong. Dev's bird looks like Crazy Frog

Haha it's always weird watching old highlights or out-takes from Eastenders. Every episode looks so old and it's like 'Was it that long ago ?!'
Unit Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 the woman that reallllly pisses me off is the asian woman that had a curry programme straight after saturday kitchen, she was clearly raised in england and had a fairly english accent, the second she started cooking curry she'd put this shoddy asian accent on... play to the stereotype why don't you?!? Don't know why it pissed me off so much, just seemed so forced like if she didn't talk like that we wouldn't beleive in her curry cooking expertise.

I can't stand the Indian sub continent accent, it really pisses me off, really would wish the TV wouldn't stereotype!! I was glad to see Eastenders add a Singh (Mohinder Singh Walia) in a small part and atleast they didn't give the git a shitty accent, I hope he kicks Peggy Mitchells arse or atleasts shags it!!!

Milligan's racist comments made your toes curl but thats how it was back then, Love Thy Neigbour and all.
