Can't beleive it's gone though, I loved it, it's the first I've heard. It was there when I last went when Oblivion first came. And the corkscrew gone too? Canna believe it. Last time I went I took me Mam and went on Oblivion 6 times back to back with her. There was not much of a queue that day. It's always best to go on school days. Is the enterprise still there? That was the only ride that made me feel sick ever

Katy Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Before you join the queue check out the height retrictions if you are taking kids.Air is good. Doesn't make you you taste lunch again. The cable car thingy is good to get around. Hex makes you feel sick. The corkscrew has gone (When they took it down they found so many phones, coins, watches etc but they also found a faulse leg. Why did no one notice some poor bloke hopping off the ride!) But it all depends on how old they are as to what rides are good. Black Hole has gone What is good is the water park in the hotel. Kids love it. But whatever you do, don't stay there. I'm pretty sure this ****er started my labyrynthitis! It's a head fook of the highest order. I so want to go to Alton Towers now. Me too! We should sort an FT trip out to there....although we've been saying this for the past 4 years haha.

Last time we went AT, Small thought it was hilarious seeing its auntie clinging onto the wall outside retching. Evil child.

Evil child. Which is pretty much what effect any of these rides has on me....... having Menniers now wouldnt help much! I hate places like AT for this reason plus all the crowds/queueing etc... BAH Humbug! Id rather go somewhere a bit more sedate

Id rather go somewhere a bit more sedate I'm fine on the rollercoasters, I love rollercoasters, although the Black Hole made always made me nauseous. I have motion sickness, and if Hex was taken out into the open, it would probably be the gayest ride ever invented. It's not a rollercoaster, it sways about a bit, but it's the room spinning around you that sets me off. It's like going straight to bed after drinking 3 bottles of wine.

Yeah good point.... sadly were a family of wimps and my Son is the only one who'd go on anything and hes at the age where hes embarrassed at the mere suggestion of venturing out in public with his family I like log flumes

When we went on it Mandy (my wife -as MrsJohnMurphy should know!) leant forward to ask me "what does this ride do?" exactly as it set off! (As she's deaf she didn't hear the countdown. I was trying to tell her in sign language, but difficult when the brace is down!) Needless to say, she found out soon enough - good thing they have padded headrests! I also enjoyed Nemesis. The website is quite good for planning your day. Have fun bro (though I'll see you Friday night anyhow)

We once went midweek in October and the park was almost deserted, to the point where we were able to stay on the rides and go round again without queueing! If you're lucky you can even get decent weather in mid-autumn/spring. Well worth it if you can.

I think the longest I queued then was 10 minutes for Saw (which only opened this year). Most rides there was no queue at all. It was glorious sunshine too which meant we could go on the Tidal Wave (The weather was more like the top than the bottom!) Oh, and if you want it half price check this out

Guest Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Last time I went there was me (about 13.5 stone at the time) and my mate (about 15 stone) in the front of the log flume log and two really light people in the back, sufficed to say I spent the rest oft he day walkng round soaked to the skin. It started lashing it down about an hour before we left and just as i was drying off I got soaked again Nothing like the smell of stale log flume water on a train home to make people move away from you

Going on the Log fume, rapids and ripsaw when it's throwing it down is epic. No queues whatsoever as you can imagine. Need to round some troops, get a day off work and head up before the school hols kick in, massive fan of Rita and Nemisis. Air's slow but still brilliant. Oblivion in my opinion is gash.

turkish14 Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 I'm taking the kids on Saturday ( taking advantage of City playing Friday night ).Just wondering if anyone has any tips on the best rides etc. Whats worth queueing for and what shouldn't i bother with. Its been 20 years since i last went and i imagine things have changed quite a bit. The best bit of advice i could give is.....try drayton manor instead imo you can get on more rides in less time, also cheaper than Alton towers. I hate that place, the biggest rip off theme park i have been too. In fact i dread the day my 3 month old son asks me to take him there, will probably take him instead of grounding him as punishment. Hope you have a great time though

I was disappointed with it. The ad had you looking straight down the drop, yet in reality the ride stops on the apex of the curve. The drop is good, but then that's it. If the ride went on and did some more, like the newer rides that have a vertical drop are doing, then fine. But Oblivion was a one trick pony. I think there could be some sexual innuendoes/comparisons to be made, but I'll leave those to someone else.
