our six signings... I cant help feeling a little concerned

I would suggest...

2 x Goalkeepers

New Left Back - Cover for Mattock, assuming he stays and when he goes off the boil. Berner is more effective in midfield

New Right Back - Hopefully a fully fit Gilbert will sign, if not another please

New Winger - Preferably someone who can switch between left & right (cover for Gradel & Dyer)

New Striker - Cover for Howard & Fryatt (someone who will push for a start and keep them on their toes)

+ a couple of loanees to provide overall cover and give our team more than one dimension. Hoofing to Howard will not be as effective in the Championship.

King? Dyer?

Both have had better seasons than Gradel.

Agree. But theres a lot of this team that have proved how poor they can be at times, if they are sticking with this squad it will be nothing like this so called playoff push we're supposedly going for.

+ Definately a new central midfielder, I like King and Oakley but none of them are physical, would be so frustrating in the Championship.

It would be nice to have a big, strong attacking midfielder. Someone who would be allowed a little freedom in our formation or sat just behind the front two.

Andy Robinson for Leeds is a prime example - caused us no end of problems when he came on against us at the Walkers.

In recent years, I can't recall us ever having a player of his type, one that likes to hustle and come from deep.

I'd love a cheeky bid for him if Leeds failed to come up through the playoffs.

This is much ado about nothing.

Hobbs and Brown + 6 (2 RBs, RM, LM, 2 STs) - sorted.

Make them quality signings and we will be top half no problem.

What's the fuss about?

well that's exactly the bloody problem. last close season NP did a terrific job of bringing in decent-quality players on a low budget that were good enough to make us champions this year. this close season he faces an even trickier challenge: using what will probably be a medium-sized budget (by championship standards) to bring in players of a much higher quality so that we can hopefully compete in the top half of the league, something we haven't done in half a decade.

going off what he did last year, i'm confident he can do it. however, it's no mean feat and the championship is a develish league to compete in. i'm quite happy with the signing of brown, and getting hobbs's signature has been a real coup for the club i feel. it's a good start, but we still have a long long way to go; as others have said, i feel confident that we have 6 or 7 players who, with the right management, will be good enough for us to be a force next year...but realistically the team needs strengthening significantly in certain areas and we still need to find a decent goalkeeper, something we haven't had for years.

mandaric sounding out the purchase of only 6 or so players is also a step in the right direction. over the past few years we have spread our limited resources far too thinly, operating almost a revolving-door policy, with 10 players in and out every close season. hopefully NP has learnt from the mistakes of his predecessors and this summer will opt for quality over quantitity. we'll have to wait and see, but one things for certain: if we want to progress in the championship, we're going to have to buy good players, not just decent ones...

Leeds have a rather unfortunate record in recent play-offs. If they fail in their attempt, I would expect quite a few of their players to be poached. One or two in our direction would be good.

I get the impression that Nigel Pearson is a very analytical and calculating Manager. He, with his back room staff, will choose their targets carefully and respectfully in relation to our current squad. I also think that he has acheived enough this season for Mandaric to trust him with future additions.

He still has a lot of deadwood to clear out as well. With the potential of eight new players (Hobbs, Brown + 6) and possibly the same amount, if not more leaving, it needs to be done as quickly as possible in order for the team to gel throughout pre-season. From what I've seen of Pearson this season, I have no doubt that all new purchases will strenghten our squad.

Nigel Pearson has done a great job to get us straight back. Milan has hinted at six new signings. This simply wont do. Some fairly extensive investment from the Chairman is needed to keep our momentum going. Six signings will not be enough to push us up into a top six finish next season. We could end up struggling if this is the case. Players will be leaving the club, and a strong squad is essential.

Could 6 perminant signings?

Then get others in on loan?

Absolutely!

Nige has used the loan system to great effect this season and there is no reson to think that next season will be any different.

He is also unique amongst recent managers because he tends to sign players in positions where we need them!

Merc and the beeb website said yesterday that steve walsh had been abroad on a scouting mission and he was the one that found tunchev for us as well as zola for chelsea so that bodes well if the player he was watching has impressed him.

My main concern is that we buy too many players as we did under Allen.

6 should be an absolute maximum, including loanees (to start with anyway).

2 keepers

Full Back

Centre Mid

Winger

Striker
