Bryn Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Was talking about this with my dad the other day, he's probably their most important player, arguably beating out Ferdinand and Ronaldo. Such a good player and in great form. I know this happens EVERY time we go to a major tournament but it really is shaping up quite nicely for us... good manager and players like Ferdinand, Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney and Walcott being instrumental for their teams and in great form.

Agreed.

I'll eat my hat if England win the world cup. Ronaldo is better than Rooney but thats not to say Rooney isnt one heck of a player.
Guest ttfn Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 Was going to start a new thread but found this. I think he's got to be the best player in the world right now. Players (particularly English ones) aren't as appreciated as they could be by us as long as they stay in England (Frank Lampard was once voted 2nd in world player of the year, for example). I can't see how, at this moment, Messi/Ronaldo could possibly be playing better than him...

Especially when Drogba is playing, imo, as well as him if not better this season.
Uncle Albert Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Rooney is on another level at the moment, I just bloody wish he hit this form in June.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 16 February 2010 Posted 16 February 2010 Seems to have added Leadership skills to his belt as well.
Guest ttfn Posted 16 February 2010 Posted 16 February 2010 That's a very bold claim indeed! Especially when Drogba is playing, imo, as well as him if not better this season. Another 2 goals today. I don't watch enough world football to make a 100% definitive judgment (and I'd be surprised if anybody else did) but the guy's unplayable at the moment. I've always considered him to be up there in the group with Xavi, Iniesta, Gerrard and co., just behind the 'big 3' of Kaka, Messi and Ronaldo, but right now, you'd be mad not to consider him to be right up there at the very top. I've been watching football nearly 20 years and I've not seen an Englishman play as well as Rooney at the moment. And as for Drogba, I agree, he's a terrific player (who doesn't?) but I think right now, Rooney is in a class of his own, possibly worldwide.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 16 February 2010 Posted 16 February 2010 Wayne Rooney is the best player in the world right now .
purpleronnie Posted 16 February 2010 Posted 16 February 2010 I would say he's up there but best player? Maybe best striker.....this season.
Guest Bilo Posted 16 February 2010 Posted 16 February 2010 If Manure win the Champions League or England have a strong World Cup (maybe winning the thing) then we may see the first English World Player of the Year. Every possibility of that happening in my opinion. He has been absolutely immense this season and has flourished since the departure of Ronaldo. I can see a time when he may be tempted by a move to either Barca or Real to create what would be an amazing team in Spain. Imagine facing an attack of Ronaldo-Rooney-Kaka or Messi-Rooney with Iniesta and Xavi feeding them. If Rooney's form continues and a Ronaldo sized bid from either the Bernabeu or Camp Nou comes in, it could well be a reality.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 17 February 2010 Posted 17 February 2010 Seems like he's matured now. Totally agree he's the best player in the world. Seems as if the sale of Ronaldo's helped him shine abit more too.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 If Rooney went to Barca or Real, I don't think I'd be able to conceal my erection.
lildave3 Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 A huge reason Rooney is getting more goals is having Valencia on the wing, imo. He must have clocked up quite a few assists so far this season.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 I've been one of his greatest critics in the past (Too selfish, not the greatest reader of the game...) but I think this season he's really getting to be the finished article. Looking at my criticism, they are things that usually get ironed out with a little experience. Fergies recent comments about his not being as good a finisher Solskjaer were just silly. Solskjaer was just that, a bloke who was good at getting on the end of a ball and putting it away... there wasn't much more to his game. Rooney is one of the best all-round players in the world right now and just might shine at the World Cup.

Not saying that it's the only reason obviously, because he is class. But just think he gives better service than Nani and certainly passes and crosses the ball more than Ronaldo.
