Darkzzz_ Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 How good is this lad? Very important to Manchester United, his work rate is phenomenal, without him United would be great, with him they are world class. He is far more important than Ronaldo in my opinion. He has so much to his game, possibly the best English player along with Gerrard at the moment. Discuss...
General Smuts Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 Monumental shifts put in on the left wing. Beyond good. But he's no Max Gradel crossing expert.
Guest Bilo Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 In terms of importance to Man United, Rooney has overtaken Ronaldo by some distance this season. A great footballing brain, ox-like strength, determination and superb technique are the attributes that have made this happen. Those of us who have been expecting him to be one of the world's greatest since he burst onto the scene as a 16 year old at Everton won't be too surprised though.
Darkzzz_ Posted 6 May 2009 Author Posted 6 May 2009 Remember him scoring that goal against Arsenal like yesterday and thinking how special this lad could become. The debut against Fenerbache.....
Granno Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 In the last few seasons he has proved he is a great player, this season has shown he is a sensational player. A real talent.
Uncle Albert Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 I wouldnt say Rooney is as important as Ronaldo, seeing as Ronaldo has banged in 25 goals this season. I would say both are just as important as each other for United. Both world class.

They do compliment each other very well. If it has to be a English club to win the CL, I would choose United every time. The only English team that I really enjoy watching in Europe.
Ultra Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 But look at Rooney's record of assists. Is it any wonder that Ferguson apparently wants to build his side around him rather than Ronaldo?
Uncle Albert Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 But look at Rooney's record of assists. Is it any wonder that Ferguson apparently wants to build his side around him rather than Ronaldo? When has Ferguson said that? Builds his team over Rooney, yet Rooney is being played on the left and Ronaldo is playing straight through the middle? I'm not going to get in an arguement over which one is better because they are both world class and deserve all the credit they get from it.
Ultra Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 Sources in Manchester suggest that Ronaldo will finally be allowed to move to Madrid in the summer and that Franck Ribery is being bought from Bayern Munich to replace him. Meanwhile Rooney, in contrast, has said he wants to stay at United for the rest of his career. As long as he stays fit, Rooney could be immense next season not only for his club, but in the World Cup too. I certainly hope so..

I can see him continuing to thrive in that role.
Darkzzz_ Posted 6 May 2009 Author Posted 6 May 2009 I don't think it is an argument, I think Ultra has made a good point. His assists have been very important for United, as have Ronaldo's goals. Ferguson deserves a lot of praise for his handling of the pair of them. They were great before they arrived, they are world beaters now.
Koke Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 I still think Ronaldo is better. His all-round game (apart from defending) is better than Rooney's. Aerial threats, shooting, dribbling etc. Rooney though does put in an enormous shift in on the left and takes one down for the team.

Ronaldo has what Rooney hasn't good looks and PACE, this gives him the edge over Rooney!!
Jordan Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 No matter how good Rooney is, he'll still be one of my least-liked players as long as he continues to bitch and moan to the refs.
C-man Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 I'd rather have Rooney in my team because you know what you're going to get from him. Ronaldo is the loose cannon. People say 'he never plays well in the big games', but I think it depends on the start he gets. Many teams in the big games contain him early on until he loses his rag and looks disinterested. Yesterday, he got the big goal early on and his game flourished against Gibbs and then against Djourou. You can't argue with 25 goals again this season though. Rooney's vision and skill to execute the ball for Ronaldo's second just emphasised what a brilliant player he is, and why I'd rather have him than Ronaldo if I could pick one. Not saying Ronaldo couldn't do it, but I bet he would have shot.
lildave3 Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 Trust Nath to bring up the Fener match Ever since Rooney scored that goal against Arsenal he's been a player i've really liked and rated. Incredible talent but still works incredibly hard. He's already achieved a fair bit in his career but I firmly believe he'll still achieve much more, such as becoming Englands most capped player and record goalscorer.

You did cross my mind when I put that but at that stage there was no turning back.

billyfox1 Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 Great player. He just needs to cut out the stupid bookings for opening his gob

This answers this: But look at Rooney's record of assists. Is it any wonder that Ferguson apparently wants to build his side around him rather than Ronaldo? At the moment, why would Ronaldo want to leave United for anywhere except Barcelona? Onto Rooney, the only thing that lets him down is his temperament.
TrickyTrev Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Ronaldo has what Rooney hasn't good looks and PACE, this gives him the edge over Rooney!! Wayne is pretty sharp. Christiano is a bit odd and greasy looking too.
Darkzzz_ Posted 7 May 2009 Author Posted 7 May 2009 I would pay to see Ronaldo play football. Some people would pay to have full on sexual relations with him.
Thracian Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 The two are so different as footballers it is hard to compare them. Rooney is so selfless and Ronaldo so lethal. Rooney has awesome strength and determination - qualities that aren't missing in Ronaldo - but the latter has an awesome range of goalscoring talent and a rare ruthlessness in showing them off. I don't know if Ronaldo will leave United but, if he does, he'll perhaps learn once and for all how important they are as a catalyst for his abilities. Ronaldo has improved enormously under Ferguson and few players get better when they leave United. I don't think Ronaldo will be any different.
