An idea for our 125th anniversary

Hi James

If you don't get a reply tomorrow, there is a Fans Consultative Committee meeting on Thursday.

So the topic could be raised then, either by our representative or fellow posters on here Lisa or Raj could raise it.

Just a thought

I thought for a minute James had left 6 kisses for Peter Jones lol

Top stuff Jamesdot.

Response from Peter Jones:

James

Thank you for your email.

My initial thought is that any fundraising has to be positive and it is very kind of you to think of helping the less fortunate within our community.

I suppose it puts pressure on Birch to complete another run!!!

Please let me pass the email to Birch and I will ensure that I get back in touch.

I hope that is ok with you.

Kind regards

Peter

I guess that sounds pretty positive as an initial response, let's see what happens.

James, this is a very good idea and i'm intrested in doing the run. Like mentioned earlier in the thread 125 + 'The Birch's' Runners maybe alot however If we split the groups up into 25's. One group goes round the other groups wait for the first group to come back, second group go etc... abit like a relay? just an idea.

Thinking about it, 125 fans is ambitious - perhaps if there was 25? There are bound to be drop-outs etc. :dunno:

I still reckon it's doable.

I'm pretty confident we could find 25 people at least on Foxestalk who would be willing to do it. Talking Balls I reckon could be another 25. Friends and family of these could potentially add another 25 if every other person found someone to do it.

So that's 75 and then we get another 50 from promotions in programmes, the Mercury, etc.

I would much rather start off high and try as hard as possible to get 125. It may ultimately be ambitious but given we have a lot of time and it means more money for charity I think it's worth pushing for the full 125 for the time being.

I reckon you could get 100 from this forum alone. If you look at how many people we have registered, 100+ isn't that many.

We have 7,091 registered members

I know this thread isn't a sign up thread anyway but I'd like to say yes, and might be tempted but could commit yet, fitness might be a problem for me! I'd have to do some serious training.

I admire your spirit and positivity, I hope that it is doable. :)

With next season being our 125th anniversary I had the idea that we could combine the Birch's end of season run with a run of our own to raise money for the away shirt sponsor, LOROS. The idea is that 125 people on here sign up and agree to raise a minimum of £100 for charity (giving at least £12,500 in total). On the last home game of the season we all do a certain number of laps of the pitch with Birchenhall. The pitch is apparently 110 yards by 76 yards meaning a lap is about 340 metres. 25 laps would be 8.5km (just over 5 miles) which seems a reasonable distance to get around and attract sponsorship with.

I would be more than happy to organise this, firstly by e mailing Peter Jones to assess how viable the idea is and then by coordinating with the club the timings and also how to arrange collection and donation of the sponsorship money (ideally using a Just Giving page for the entire group).

The only foreseeable problem is that the club may have an issue with 125 people running around the pitch. Personally given the nature of the cause and the fact it combines our away shirt sponsor and the anniversary for the club I think this and any other potential issues could easily be resolved, particularly given that it would happen in just under a year's time, giving us plenty of time to sort it out.

This thread isn't designed to be a sign up thread, more a discussion of the idea to iron out any problems I haven't thought of and also to improve it with your ideas. Once we have the finalised plan I will e mail Peter Jones and subject to getting an approval in principal will create a sign up thread. If we don't get 125 people we can open it up to friends, family and other fans (possibly through an advert in the programme).

What do you reckon?

Im definately up for this, count me in! i have always wanted to take part in his run!

Response from Peter Jones. I can understand where he's coming from. I'll definitely be following up in August though.

James

I have been thinking about your email and its a little too early for

us to make any committments so I am suggesting that you remind me

again in August.

We shall be able to have a look then.

I hope that is ok.

Peter

Superb idea. Doubtless it will run into all sorts of hurdles once the club gets involved but if it does, somehow, get the green light then count me in. I shall turn a deaf ear to shouts of "you fat bastard". :D

I hope they don't get hurdles involved, running is hard enough without the obstacles!

Well I just did and this is the response I got:

James

Thank you.

Please bear with me.

Just thought I'd remind everyone of the idea and also give anyone who missed it first time a chance to read and consider getting themselves involved.

I'm going to keep badgering him until this thing happens.
