Basingstoke Fox Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11...tball-star.html The next time footballer Andrey Arshavin gets into his car, he would be well advised to keep a special eye out for lady motorists. They just might be tempted to shunt him up the rear. Remarks by Arsenal's new Russian star are about to rocket him to the top of the Premier League for sexism. The 27-year-old striker has already spoken about his preference for 'tall and slim' women with 'narrow thighs and tiny bums' and he has now moved on to the sensitive subject of female drivers. From Russia with attitude: Arshavin and partner Yulia with their son Artyom From Russia with attitude: Arshavin and partner Yulia with their son Artyom In an interview with the Daily Mail's Martin Samuel, Arshavin declares: 'I would never give driving lessons to women. We need to build new roads for them. Why? Because you never know what to expect from a woman on the road. 'If you see a car behaving weirdly, swerving and doing strange things, before you see the driver you know it is a woman. It is always a woman.' It seems that the merits or otherwise of female motorists are a subject close to his heart. In one of his three bestselling books back home, he wrote: 'If I had it in my power to introduce a ban on women driving cars and to withdraw all their licences, I would do it without thinking twice.' The soccer star, who designs women's clothes as a sideline, was signed by Arsenal for around £15million in January. He has moved to London with his partner Yulia and their two young children. His comments are unlikely to concern Yulia, a former radio presenter, who has her own outspoken views about Britain and its women. Before moving to London, the 26-year-old brunette said: 'I do not particularly like England. In my opinion people there are too reserved and it's dull.' And in February, after living in a hotel for a few weeks, she said: 'As far as London's citizens are concerned I didn't like them at all. They are very dirty, scruffy. London is a very dirty city. 'The women there don't care about themselves and what they look like. 'Often you see a woman in a street gobbling up a hamburger with grease dropping on her dress. 'English food is disgusting. It doesn't taste good and the price doesn't correspond to the quality. I didn't like English beer either.' There is no doubt Arshavin has been a huge success on the pitch. Last month he scored all four goals for Arsenal in a 4-4 draw against Liverpool. He has also earned a reputation for sportsmanship by trying to talk the referee out of awarding a penalty for his team because he believed the tackle on him by an opposing defender was fair. His comments off the pitch are unlikely to be met with such universal approval, but that will hardly bother a man who has enjoyed being the centre of attention for years. Before making it as a footballer he studied for a diploma in fashion design so he could meet attractive girls. He was banished to his club's second team for going to a nightclub before a key league match and revealed political ambitions by standing for elections in St Petersburg as a candidate for Vladimir Putin's party, although he withdrew before the poll.
Hullfox Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 Not sure what the fuss is. Can't argue with any of that.
AoWW Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 I'd quite like my own, personal road network. Can someone sort it, please?
Flynny Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 Bit funny that. Genius idea enrolling on a fashion course n'all.
Guest Posted 17 May 2009 Posted 17 May 2009 I'm surprised Arshavin and his missus manage to get anywhere with those chips!
Thracian Posted 17 May 2009 Posted 17 May 2009 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11...tball-star.html:laugh: Wonderful! A footballer with a bit of personality and a willingness to say what he thinks (at least for now). His missus sounds like a good 'un too. Breath of fresh air. Mind you, with people like Harriet Harman in the cabinet, I'm a bit surprised women haven't got their own roads!
Red Leicester Posted 17 May 2009 Posted 17 May 2009 I'm surprised Arshavin and his missus manage to get anywhere with those chips! He doesn't like our chips, he needs to carry around his own.
