The Other King

Leicester City Academy forward, Craig King, has been selected for the Scotland Under-19 squad in the forthcoming UEFA European Championships, Elite Round, Group Six, to be held in England.

King is part of an 18-man touring party and is one of only three English-based players, with the other 15 players currently plying their trade in Scotland.

The City starlet will hope to be involved in his team's three group matches against Slovakia at Bramall Lane, Sheffield, against Bosnia Herzegovina at the Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster and finally against the hosts, England again at Bramall Lane.

If King and his teammates are successful, they will hope to progress to the finals in Ukraine, which take place between July 21st and August 2nd.

I may be asking a slightly obvious or stupid question here, but is he related to Andy?

Welsh international King?

:tumbleweed: Well I just thought they may be as they came up through the City ranks and King isn't THAT common a name. :dunno:

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

It's not that stupid considering you can play for the country of your birth or your parents/grandparents. It would hardly be unique these days if they were for example cousins and for one parent to be married to a Scot and one to a Welshman/woman :dunno:

But they're not as far as I know.

Yeah exactly, if Almunia can supposedly play for England then it is not that farfetched that someone who has come through the same academy as Andy is getting a Scotland cap of some sort. Cheers for seeing it my way.

It's another step along the rocky road. Difficult to say if he'll make it.

Pearson seems to rate the guy but, as yet, he doesn't score nearly enough goals for my liking.

He doesn't seem to have a natural instinct for goal like Kee but he does have qualities.

Craig was a big lad for his age and first appeared in the under 18 side as an under 16 player.

He's got skill, strength and energy in abundance. He never stops working for the cause.

Initially he seemed a bit selfish and seemed to run into blind alleys instead of spotting the runners - rather like Fryatt.

That aspect hasn't disappeared but there has been improvement. I wonder if he might make a midfielder in the end given his engine and athleticism - providing he can get his head up, see the pictures, and pass the ball quickly instead of taking extra touches.

He does score goals but I just don't see him getting enough as a specialist striker unless he improves dramatically.

Hope he does well and makes the most of it. Will have to wait and see if he makes it through the ranks though...

I remember Ian King back in the sixties. A superb centre half for Leicester City. He was a Scot too. A no nonsense player. as hard as nails, and solid as a rock.

And an excellent classy footballer.

Quality. Best centre-back I saw in a City shirt and there have been some good uns.

Even better than Kisnorbo? :o
