Soar Fox Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Because they applied probably. So if Nigel Pearson was sacked tomorrow and John Barnes applied do you think it's fair that we have to give him an interview just because of his skin colour?
Soar Fox Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Imagine Terry Connor getting an interview for the Barcelona just because he's black
Danno Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 So if Nigel Pearson was sacked tomorrow and John Barnes applied do you think it's fair that we have to give him an interview just because of his skin colour? If he was the only ethnic minority that applied then yes. If more minorities get interviewed and get into these jobs then more will have the confidence to apply for these jobs. Hopefully this causes more to apply in the future, meaning that we have more and more quality minority coaches in the game as a result. It also removes an element of the bias some have over the intellectual capability of non-white people which prevents many from getting top jobs in wider society.
Frank to be Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 I think it's quite obvious that institutional racism still exists in football and that's why there are so few black managers. If it was up to me every club would have to have a representative sample of football staff.

If it was up to me every club would have to have a representative sample of football staff. Really? A few bad apples, maybe, but institutional? What do you base this on?
Jimothy Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Not sure how an industry happy to pay black people hundreds of thousands of pounds a week can be classed a institutionally racist. Prove to me that lots of black peoples are applying and then I'll believe you that a large chunk of the league clubs are racist. If they aren't applying, how can the clubs employ them? And they aren't applying because they perceive the clubs to be racist before they've even experienced the rejection, that's not the clubs fault either that these people are assuming a prejudice before its even occurred.

So let's just forget that they might not be good enough lets just interview them because of their skin colour. Have you got any facts that black males don't get jobs as football managers because of their colour? Can you show me how many have applied and have been rejected by clubs?
Danno Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 So let's just forget that they might not be good enough lets just interview them because of their skin colour. Yeah, it's not like people are rejected every day because of bias towards white people is it.
Stadt Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 there's 92 league clubs, hundreds of white managers, less than 10 black managers about. Say Pelligrini is sacked, Klopp, Ancelotti and Unai Emery are on the shortlist with Chris Powell, anybody who thinks that is positive is deluding themselves, I'm pretty sure Chris Powell is going to get fed up of getting requests to do interviews for jobs he's not going to get just because the FA has implicated that there has to be a black manager involved. The problem is that barely any black ex pros try to become managers.

Jimothy Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Hahaha why would Chris Powell be requested to do an interview? Gotta interview a black guy, somebody's gotta do it. If hardly anybody is applying then Hasselbaink and Powell are going to be very busy doing interviews for jobs they'll either never get or don't want.
Soar Fox Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 What happens if for instance Paul Ince keeps going for interviews at top premiership clubs and he doesn't get the job. Will clubs then be accused of being racist?
Stadt Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Hahaha why would Chris Powell be requested to do an interview? Because he's a competent black (is it ethnic minority or black managers for the Rooney ?), who else are they going to give an interview to, it'll be Hasselbaink and Powell given interviews all the time in the short term.
Danno Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Because he's a competent black (is it ethnic minority or black managers for the Rooney ?), who else are they going to give an interview to, it'll be Hasselbaink and Powell given interviews all the time in the short term. They aren't going to interview you if you don't want the job.
Stadt Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 They aren't going to interview you if you don't want the job.Yeah I realise that but it's going to be a bit of a joke if top clubs are having to interview a conference manager because he's the only ethnic minority manager that's accepted an interview. The Rooney rule would work if there was an abundance of talented black managers out there but there isn't.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 I think it should only apply for black managers who don't have any previous experience at senior level
Danno Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Yeah I realise that but it's going to be a bit of a joke if top clubs are having to interview a conference manager because he's the only ethnic minority manager that's accepted an interview. The Horse's Mouth Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Yeah, the "all black managers are shit" argument is the worst
Jimothy Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 How do you know there's not? Some don't bother because of the barriers that exist. What barriers? The ones they perceive to exist that they haven't yet faced because they haven't applied for a job and been rejected yet.
Stadt Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 How do you know there's not? Some don't bother because of the barriers that exist. If there was an abundance of talented managers out you'd like to think that they wouldn't let these barriers harm a potentially successful career and wouldn't give up so easily. Chris Powell and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink have had no issues finding a job because they're capable managers, whereas Paul Ince is a bad manager hence it is difficult for him to get a job.
Danno Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 What barriers? The ones they perceive to exist that they haven't yet faced because they haven't applied for a job and been rejected yet.Because of the bias people have against black peoples' percieved intellectual capability.
Danno Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/dec/14/why-so-few-black-football-managers From half way ish
Jimothy Posted 5 June 2015 Posted 5 June 2015 Because of the bias people have against black peoples' percieved intellectual capability. If they want to prejudice against people because they think they'll be prejudiced against them without actually finding out first hand that that prejudice exist, that's their problem.
