Koke Posted 25 May 2009 Posted 25 May 2009 I didn't mean that they're undeserving because of their football. Obviously your league position determines your worthiness to play in the top flight. I just think that their fans take their top flight status for granted. There are fans even in the third tier (Leeds, Huddersfield etc.) who are more deserving of seeing higher quality football based on their average attendance relative to their league positions. In an ideal world for me, the best fans would get to see the best football, but that's obviously not how it works in real life.Guess I phrased my point wrong. Sorry, but you're still wrong, mate. Blackburn have a population of roughly 100,000 and their average crowd is roughly 20,000. And on top of that they have loads of big Premiership clubs in their surrounding NW area - I would say that's pretty good support all things considered. Bolton have the two Manchester clubs right on their door step, and they have the two Liverpool clubs couple miles down the road as well. Bolton will never get a bigger attendance than what they have now, unless of course they win 5 titles on the trot and couple of CL cups as well. Wigan are just a small club punching well above their weight. And like the two other clubs, they have too many big clubs living right down their street who are nicking all their fans. You're barking at the wrong tree, my friend. If you wanna have a go at clubs with shit attendances, then look no further than Birmingham, Coventry, Middlesbrough etc.
davieG Posted 25 May 2009 Author Posted 25 May 2009 I suppose it is a little presumptuous of me to think that why, but I guess I'm trying to look at it proportionally.Anyway, I know when I'm beaten so I'll shut up now. I'll save my views for one of those "Who would make up your ideal Premier League" threads that pops up every so often. Shame I was enjoying having a friendly argument.
Tilley Posted 25 May 2009 Posted 25 May 2009 Be nice to get rid of Wigan and Bolton though, totally undeserving of top flight football in my opinion. Undeserving? No. But not exciting when you see the fixture and it will read Burnley vs Stoke, Hull vs Wolves etc. Wolves, Brum, Burnley, Hull, Stoke, Wigan, Bolton, Pompey, Sunderland... all shit. If they can do it, so can we.

If they can do it, so can we. Sunderland are a far bigger club than any of the others on that list. Their average crowds are similar to Chelsea and Liverpool, and that's to watch a p!ss poor team. I'm delighted to see Burnley win after the way they were treated by the tinpot league earlier in the season, and also because it would have been an absolute travesty to see the thug Chris Morgan return to the top flight. In addition, Burnley have had some dark times in recent years, living in the shadow of their considerably richer East Lancashire neighbours. Expect plenty of fireworks when they meet in the PL. Those clashes will make the Cardiff-Swansea matches look like village garden parties!

tartanowl Posted 25 May 2009 Posted 25 May 2009 Now that's a stat! The Wednesday half of Sheffield must be doing some serious partying this Bank Holiday... Leeds and the Blunts have made it a great bank holiday weekend. It couldn't have gone any better.
purpleronnie Posted 25 May 2009 Posted 25 May 2009 Even though I wanted Burnley to win a small part of me wanted Sheff Utd to win just to see Chris Morgan running around like a headless chicken against premiership strikers.

That thug doesn't deserve to be in football nevermind one of the world's elite leagues.

MC Prussian Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 Well done to Burnley. Couldn't follow the match yesterday, but was hoping for a Clarets win. And what pleasure it's been this morning to find out they've beaten the Blades by 1-0. Burnley deserve to be in the top flight again after so many decades of absence, purely out of footballing reasons. And their new 09/10 kit will be a stunner. (Tempted to go for one myself )
MC Prussian Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 I like Burnley a lot but their kit does depress me. Really? It's plain genius.
Darkzzz_ Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 Really? It's plain genius. Yeah, maybe I am not a claret man. Ok, maybe it is just the badge, the shorts, I dunno... Something about the kit I just don't like. But Owen Coyle looks like a god in his white training top and tracksuit bottoms, I will be hoping they stay up next season.
MC Prussian Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 Burnley have my support (from afar). A team with such spirit, dedication and history, they deserve nothing but my utmost respect for what they've pulled off this season. And I always have a heart for the underdog. Imagine they'd stay up at the expense of Wigan or even Blackburn next season...
Corky Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 That thug doesn't deserve to be in football nevermind one of the world's elite leagues. This.

I mean, championship: Sheffield Wednesday, Derby, Forest, Coventry, Leicester, Ipswich, Newcastle Middlesborough Premiership: Burnley, Birmingham, Wolves, Hull, Stoke, Wigan, Portsmouth. 10 years ago it would have been the other way around. Amazing.

I agree, there are very few footballers I dislike but he's one of them, a real throw back to the so called 'Hard men', no place in the game anymore, no talent, slow who thinks he's having a good game if he's fouling people. Moron.
