C-man Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Well it was just unlucky really See if you were a referee and you had an extremely experienced assistant on the line, flagging and telling you the ball had gone in I think you'd have gone with him. The Forest vs. Derby was also unlucky. For the penalty, imagine if the striker had not scored and he had ballooned it into row z. They wouldn't have wanted an advantage then!! Sods law resulted in the penalty being missed.... and then from the resulting corner people could have been saying that the push was a brilliant spot. Had these all been spread out over the course of the season then the media wouldn't really have picked up on it. That's just one way of looking at it all Do you actually get taught how to make excuses when you've made a gash decision? I swear referees are better at that than refereeing the fucking game.
Koke Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 There's no way it was Attwell's fault for the Reading ghost goal. He had to rely on his lino and he bollocked it up badly. I'll have to agree with Daniel on this. I know the refs sometimes gets big calls wrong, but we're sitting here in our armchairs watching it from 7 different angles and listening to Jamie fucking Redknapp ripping the ref to shreds for a costly mistake he made cos he had a split second to make a quick difficult match deciding decision. The ref need more help, not more slaughtering.

C-man Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 I always look at everything from the other opinion. Obviously on FoxesTalk it's always just the referees though. These 'top class' referees make too many mistakes for the level they are at. They shouldn't need defending.
Simi Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 These 'top class' referees make too many mistakes for the level they are at. They shouldn't need defending. Lets have it right though mate, most of the time the referee will get lambasted after the commentators and spectators have had a good look at the replay 5/6 times from different angles in different motions. They do a hard job, a thankless one. Decisions have to be made in a split second and not always from the greatest angle. Yes, some of the choices made are absolutely shocking, but they're only human.

Decisions have to be made in a split second and not always from the greatest angle. Yes, some of the choices made are absolutely shocking, but they're only human. Obviously they do a hard job and the more high profile the match, slightly wrong decisions can be made into huge errors of judgement by the media, managers and players involved, but I just feel they get too many wrong. They are professional, all they do is spend hours analyzing theirs and others performances, 'trying' to improve (we hope), yet we still see goons like Howard Webb and Mark Halsey make atrocious decisions every single week. If top players made as many mistakes as the top referees did, they wouldn't still be playing in the Premiership. I don't know the credibility of that argument because it's hard to compare referees performances in the Championship and the Premiership because the difference in the pace of the game. My original point though, was that I don't see why people like DB11 or Dermot Gallagher have to come and defend quite clearly ridiculous decisions by making up some ludicrous story that may or may not have influenced the referees decision at the time. Admit he was wrong, help him improve and move on, otherwise you're just offering him a ready made excuse for bottling decisions every game.

DB11 Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 These 'top class' referees make too many mistakes for the level they are at. They shouldn't need defending. Well actually, every season they analyse it all and I think it was something like 96% of all decisions that were made, including ones like attacker balloons it over and a goal kick is given, were correct. It's just that 4% were highlighted; no one remembers the 'great' spot of disallowing a goal because the attacker handled it or something. And referees haven't got worse it's just that technology has got better eg. highlighting mistakes. If the players were critically analysed rather than just analysed positively, then you could always say like "Oh the full back should have ran back in this direction rather than going the way he did."

Ultra Posted 27 May 2009 Author Posted 27 May 2009 Sometimes you have to give respect where it's due. Stoke fans played their part in making the Britannia a VERY tough place to visit, even for the top sides. I'd have preferred them to have gone down, but the final league table shows how effective they were. I hope fans of other teams that may reach the Premier league in the future can follow suit.

Their like Newcaslt Pt.2 Tossers. It is odd Tom, 'cos they were some of the worst fans we saw last year. They didn't make a noise and that was their promotion party. But this year, many managers have commented on it, not just the media, they must make an absolute racket to have spurred on their team to comfortable safety.
