Bill Anderson replaces Jon Sanders

Anyone know about this:

From the Daily Mail via Bentley's

Leicester owner Milan Mandaric has made some baffling choices of advisors. None more so than his decision to part company with communications chief Jon Sanders and replace him with veteran local newspaper football reporter Bill Anderson, the most unlikely spin doctor you could possibly find.

:o

beyond getting in dennis wise, this is just pure insanity....

he obviously thinks everyone is sad to see blanderson go!

i mean BA so has his finger on the pulse of modern communication, fans needs and youth culture

Bill Anderson is one of the biggest deluded twats associated with this club. Everytime he wrote about City in the Mercury, all he EVER use to was look for the positives... even when there weren't any! He just constantly praised evrything about the club, as though he was in denial about anything ever being wrong at the club- and the last few years for us have been diabolical.

I remember when Maybury, Hughes, Williams etc use to have consistently bad games for Leicester, week after week, when we were on a downwards slide under Levein and then Rob Kelly (not his fault though), and BA would write the most stupid match reports, as though he watching another game. A typical match report, after another loss to an average championship side would read-

Maybury- as always, committed to the cause, gave his all, some great blocks, little chance with the goals

Hughes- industrious as ever, gave 100%, came close with a couple of efforts which, on another day would have gone in

Williams- showed some great flashes of skill, made some great passes, good link up play with the fowards, blahdy **** blah

I mean he gave loads of positive reports to Ade Twatinbyi for gods sake!

Good riddance from the Mercury I thought, won't have to read any of his garbage anymore- now he's one of Milan's right hand men... BLOODY HELL!

And everyone knows how much we prefer to wallow in misery and despair. It's the City way! :scarf:

Just when i thought he were rid, he`s back!

Well i suppose this explains all the brown noseing, biased bill had towards milan.

There have been times, when i was thinking he was being paid by milan, in any case, such has been the spin coming from him.

Difficult appointment to understand really though, given the bad feeling between our fans and him.

I cannot say I rate him as a journalist, but surely these attributes are precisely what the club's communications officer should provide? Maybe he's found his true role.

Exactly

Do you think the club have ever put anything but a positive spin on things? They completely omitted the La Manga thing from the 03/04 Season review etc.

Of course Bill HAD to be nice to the club, they could so easily have cut him off and the Mercury would have lost a fair chunk of their readership!

Good luck to Bill, he is doing the job I would love to have :D

Why?

It's not as if there were plenty of alternative local papers around.

He was actually quite critical of the club at one stage. But that was in the days of the O'Neill v Pierpoint battles, where the fans were only ever going to take one side, and for him to back Pierpoint would have been career suicide.

Because the club have their own outsource in their website, and the BBC Radio Leicester

It wouldn't make much difference to the club if they didn't let Anderson in, have the cources and the relationship he had with the club, if he was chastising them every week. Calling players crap, useless etc... it wouldn't have gone down well with the suits.

Leicester Mercury needs Leicester City more than Leicester City needs the Leicester Mercury

Exactly why Radio Leicester bum them as well

You may well be right.

He alienated most fans writing in the Mercury, now isn't his job to write things that encourage more fans to support the club & come to games.

Will need a major switch of attitude to achieve this

From what I hear his ex colleagues thought he was a lazy arse and hardly a technical wizard to make the the website dynamic

I was under the impression that Premium TV were responsible for the website, and that City/Sanders et al only provided the content. :dunno:

He was the person that replied to enquiries via the website. I always thought he was a volunteer but obviously not. The whole package offered on the web could be far more attractive and make people want to subscribe.

This is his reward for fooling a large section of the fan base into believing that Mandaric has purchased the club for £25million by endlessly repeating the lie.

It could have been worse then. :D

I can't help but be reminded of the whole takeover now. The way MM used the media was very ckver, although certainly morally suspect. Anderson was basically writing whatever he was told, and as Davie G has rightly pointed out, now he's had to retire from the Merc there's a nice little job waiting for him at City.

Yeps, spot on davie.

Biased bill has been milans puppet, from the time of the takeover, to the day he left the mercury.

This is just a thank you present from milan.

Some people are suited to PR far more than journalism. Whether Blanderson will I don't know but he'll serve as a "mature" appointment which I believe the government is keen to encourage. Blanderson? Sanders? Who cares? It's all spin. I'd rather read knowitall! :D

A comment by a reader on the Merc Website:

  • Reliable sources within local media and club report a damaging bust up between Milan and Pearson over media output from recently overhauled comunications dept. Press day cancelled by Pearson and relations strained. Pearson unhappy with Mandaric appointed staff

Edited to clarify source.
