Steven Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 Nalis, Gillespie & Gemmill have all been released today. This comes from MB.
Knighton Matt Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 shit the bed! surprised nalis and gillespie released so quickly!
Stuliasz Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 I can't believe he has released Gillespie after he had such a good second half of the season. Thought he would have earned himself a new contract. Nalis I would have liked to have seen stay also, but Gemmill I don't know anyone who is bothered.
Steven Posted 5 May 2005 Author Posted 5 May 2005 More meetings are planned so more news will come out over the next week or so I presume.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 I think it's good news. We have seen what Maybury, McCarthy and Hughes can do and if that is indicative of his future signings, CL can do better than Nalis and Gillespie next season IMO.
Knighton Matt Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 why do i get the feeling a hell of a lot of players are going to be released in the next few days? as long as they are more than adequately replaced with younger models i'm happy!

Anish Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 Disappointed that Nalis has gone, although not surprised. I'm actually not surprised about Gillespie, I think Levein has sussed some sort of attitude problem with him hence Gillespie not starting the last 2 games. Plus his tendency to cut inside rather than beat the full back on the outside is very frustrating. As for Gemmill, who gives a sh*t? Should've gone in January/Feb imo.

Mark Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 Well done Craig Spot on so far.. Gillespie has only performed well for a few months since Christmas, and Hughes seems to play better at right wing than Keith despite being a central midfielder. Nalis has played well recently but he's certainly getting on a bit.
King Kyle lcfc Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 oh rite inside info so theres a chance it could be bull shit
Knighton Matt Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 oh rite inside info so theres a chance it could be bull shit 103516 no its a very reliable source who has been right about these things many times in the past!
King Kyle lcfc Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 Getting on abit how old is Nallis exactly he's always got his pension to fall back on if a players not under 24 there old in your eyes Matt was MB mad biker
Louise Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 I am a bit surprised by Gillespie, but he probably was on one of the larger contracts here and might not have wanted to take a drop? Or perhaps he wanted out after La Manga anyway and no-one would take him then but now he's playing better he feels he has more options? Or maybe Levein just has better players in mind.
Ricey Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 Very suprised really, a bit disapointed because I think Nalis is a great player and Gillespie can be superb. However Nalis was never going to get in much next season and he isa getting on a bit. While Gillespie has only performed well for a few months, he is in his 30's and you never know with him just how long he will be willing to give us all, he is prone to just giving up. Let's hope Levein can bring in better replacements.
Knighton Matt Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 i have to say if gillespie and nalis are being released i don't fancy the others chances much i think walker and dublin will be released now as well!
TornadoShaunUK Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 Good stuff so far (y) Nalis was going to retire at the end of this season anyway wasnt he? either way.. Please keep Walks and Dubbo =/ they'll play for a fiver a week Im sure of it...
Frenzied Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 Can't say I'm overly disappointed by this news. Although Gillespie has improved a lot under Levein I still feel he's a liability defensively. As for Nalis, he's been good over the last two games but hasn't shown enough over the whole season to warrant a new contract, plus his age is a major issue. Ditto to the comments on Gemmil. This should go a long way to bringing the wage bill down and allow us to get some good replacements.
cono Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 i am not really that bothered about gemmil and gillespie but nalis has really started to impress me over the last couple of games .
breadandcheese Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 Why are people all of a sudden disappointed at Nalis & Gillespie being released? Nalis is a nice guy who clearly likes the club but we can't afford to pay people because they are nice. If he really wants to stay at the club, he can take on an apprenticeship with Henry and learn to play the post-horn gallop. He has played well in the last few games, but we need a true defensive midfielder, and I think that both Williams and Hughes are better bets down the middle in an attacking capacity. In which case, it is a positive step that we are releasing him. Gillespie has played well in the second half of the season but I feel that with him in the team, we will not progress. For a winger, he does not put enough quality balls into the box and he appears too temperamental i.e. he can sulk and go missing during games. Gemmill, well he's nowhere near the first-team picture so there is no debate there. All in all, it's a good day if this is a true. Edited - Forgot to add a thank you to the players involved for their service to City. Nalis and Gillespie played in some important games whilst I believe Gemmill helped with the progression of some of the younger players whilst in the reserves.
C-man Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 Good decisions so far except a bit of a dodgy decision regarding releasing gillespie - Nalis - time to go - Gemmill - just plain crap, good to see him going and clearing the wage bill - Gillespie - great season since Levein took charge, dissapointing he hasnt got a new contract
C-man Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 i am not really that bothered about gemmil and gillespie but nalis has really started to impress me over the last couple of games . 103562 Nalis was probably playing for a contract, which means he would have been playing as well as possible
