Ultra Posted 22 June 2009 Posted 22 June 2009 Monty has a bowling average of 87 this season. That's particularly poor, given that he's been playing in Division 2. Swann and Rashid (who are far better batsmen and fielders) have long since overtaken him. It may be a long time before he returns to international cricket.
Milky Posted 22 June 2009 Posted 22 June 2009 It's a 16 man training squad. Monty has to be in. The final 11/13 is a different matter.
Fox You Forest Posted 22 June 2009 Posted 22 June 2009 I'd still have Monty in the 12 never mind the 16 but that's just me. Rashid is going to get plenty of chances in the future. What I'd like to see most is Harmison in for Sidebottom. Also maybe Foster for Prior.
Ultra Posted 22 June 2009 Posted 22 June 2009 Panesar hasn't had a decent first-class game, let alone a Test, in nearly a year. Yet folk are expecting him to be ready to take on the toughest team in the world. It would be helpful to read a reasoned explanation of why he should be in the squad, rather than just blind faith.

We can't go in with just Swann. Panesar and Rashid are the best of the rest. Simples.

I agree to an extent, but he has the ability to take wickets at test level, even though it was a while ago now. Unfortunately in this country we've got a dearth of quality spinners so Panesar is still a viable option despite his crap form.

Cobbo Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/co...ire/8122839.stm Certainly made the summer of 2005 one of my best ever. It's what Leicestershire can do to you, bowl you for 17 and force you to retire. What a skipper.
C-man Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 I'm going to the fourth day at Edgbaston. Cannae wait. Booked the next day off work too just incase it goes to a fifth day.
Corky Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 Thanks and best of luck Vaughany, you were a superb captain and batsman.
Fox You Forest Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 If he does retire maybe they could give him some sort of coaching role during the Ashes, just to give out advice and tips to Strauss because he was a brilliant captain.
C-man Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 The standard of play probably won't be as good as in 2005, but it is likely to be just as exciting with two teams in transition.
Ultra Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 If he does retire maybe they could give him some sort of coaching role during the Ashes, just to give out advice and tips to Strauss because he was a brilliant captain. This. Although I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up as a commentator with Sky.
Brainy Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Can't help but laugh at Shane Warne for his comments directed at Ravi Bopara and now Paul Collingwood. Must be running scared.
Fox You Forest Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Looking to warne commentating, should be fun. Yeah i think he'll be a laugh too unless Australia are winning easily then he could become unbearable very quickly.
Fosse Boy Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 This.Although I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up as a commentator with Sky. I predicted two or three years ago that that would be his next career move. Vaughan would fit right in there, just the sort of bloke Sky would want.
Ultra Posted 30 June 2009 Posted 30 June 2009 Don't think it will happen this summer, but at some stage in the next year or so.
Milky Posted 1 July 2009 Posted 1 July 2009 It's like a bonus test on sky right now. Lions against the Aussies.
Corky Posted 1 July 2009 Posted 1 July 2009 Great to see Ponting gone early. Harmison looks good so far, as does Onions.
Fox You Forest Posted 1 July 2009 Posted 1 July 2009 Holding is always moaning about something, even when he's talking normally it sounds like he's moaning.
