Ashes 2009 Thread

If we're gonna win this series Freddie's gonna have to be on top of his game bowling wise. Our batting line up looks fairly strong but i'm not totally convinced by our bowling attack.

Not sure who's worse, Panesar or Hauritz. Will be a laugh to see two players as poor as that pair grace an ashes series.

Monty deserves more respect than that. They don't just give you 135 test wickets or 8 test five fors.

Hauritz aint fit to wipe his arse.

Ian Bell?! :nono:

I doubt he'll be in the eleven.

Panesar is a much better bowler than our previous spinner in a home Ashes series. Ashley Giles lol

Is this the same Panesar whose record against the Aussies reads P3 L3?

Graeme Swann has overtaken him as our premier spinner.

That's correct, played three and lost three.. He took ten wickets in a losing side, Giles only took ten in 2005 in 5 tests in a winning side.

Nobody is disputing that Swann is ahead at the minute.

Giles also made a couple of useful knocks in 05. Indeed, his runs at Trent Bridge won us that match and ultimately the series.

I doubt Monty could play a role like that.

Really?

Ashley Giles would always come up with important wickets and he took a fair few. Monty is very much hit and miss.

They could play two spinners so it's not that obvious yet.

Exactly, Giles was hardly brilliant but at least he was reliable. Monty could either have the Aussies in a real mess or just give a shedload of runs away, he's completely inconsistent and why I wouldn't have him in the squad.

Cardiff may been a spinner's track but I don't agree that we should have to go in with two spinners unless they are your best bowlers. It is quite clear that our best bowling attack includes only one spinner, Graeme Swann. You have to play the percentages and simply choose the best players. Australia are only going in with one specialist spinner because that's all they've got, in my eyes that's all we should have too because Panesar is nowhere near the form required for an Ashes series.

Someone else who sees the light...:thumbup::thumbup:

The reason you knew what you were going to get from Giles is because he couldn't spin it, he relied on batsmen getting themselves out rather than being a genuine wicket taker and that's what Monty is.

I can't wait for it now. :D

Wonder if this thread will generate more posts than the Windies series.

Only if we're doing badly.
