Logan vows to fight for his City place

Conrad Logan is refusing to give up on his Leicester City career.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper says he had offers to leave the Walkers Stadium in the summer, but is staying to fight for his place.

And he has been rewarded with a squad number and the No.2 spot behind first choice Chris Weale.

Logan has spent most of the past two seasons out on loan and held showdown talks with manager Nigel Pearson over his future at the start of the year.

He had returned to City from a spell at Luton whose manager Mick Harford, it is understood, wanted to offer him a deal until the end of the season.

Logan hoped to push his claim for a starting spot with two keepers, Paul Henderson and David Martin, both sidelined with injury

Instead, Pearson covered their absences with loan signings and Logan returned for a second loan spell at Stockport during the January transfer window.

Logan had been the subject of a reported £200,000 bid from Stockport following his first period at Edgeley Park in 2008 when he helped them win the League Two play-off final.

"I went back to Leicester in January," said Logan. "The manager brought in the loan keepers and it did make me think what I had got to do,"

At the end of last season, Shrewsbury, Carlisle and Exeter were believed to have shown their hand and Logan admitted: "There was a bit of interest from other clubs this summer but I decided to work hard and get back in the manager's plans here.

"I've been at Leicester since I was 15 and I want to play for the club. It was important for me to find out what I needed to do and what the manager wanted me to improve on.

"I've taken that on board and I've got my head right and I'm doing what I can to be involved here."

Logan's commitment has impressed Pearson.

He said: "His attitude in pre-season has been spot-on and it has been pleasing to see him getting pitch-time. We'll see what happens with him."

Logan believes he is a "better keeper" than when he made 30 Championship appearances for City three years ago.

He said: "Being on loan does have its positives because I've played 30-40 games a season and gained more experience.

"It's now up to the manager but I'm looking to get as much pitch-time as I can and prove I can do a job.

"I talked to the fitness people before I left and went back to Ireland with my family and worked hard over there.

"I was even counting down the days before we returned to training because I wanted to be in his plans."

Logan shed six kilos to help stake his claim for a place and added: "Sometimes, after nine seasons, it's time for a fresh challenge but I'm fully focused on doing what I can."

Logan's agent, Jamie Holsgrove, of One1 Sports Management, said: "Conrad has shown exceptional character over the past couple of seasons and it takes a lot for a player to drop down divisions and then work his way back up again."

Logan started in the midweek friendly at Chesterfield and will be looking to play some part in Sunday's clash with Spanish club Real Valladolid.

City's Joe Mattock had a hand in England under-19s dramatic extra-time win in yesterday's European Championship semi-final with France in the Ukraine. Mattock, on as a second-half substitute, helped force the breakthrough with the teams locked at 1-1 when his shot was parried by French keeper Remi Pillot and Villa striker Nathan Delfouneso provided the finish.

Delfouneso then struck again to secure the 3-1 success.

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish is denying any link between City and his veteran striker Kevin Phillips.

The Sun newspaper has reported that City have put in a £750,000 bid for Hartlepool midfielder Ritchie Jones.

I'd like to see his talking done on the pitch. He can say all he wants about being a better keeper etc but id like to see that happen to be honest. Last thing we need this year is a liability between the sticks!

He has needed to fight the flab rather than fight for a place for the last few seasons, I don't think he's currently good enough.

I'd like to see... some paragraphs.

There you go Fez :D

You can't knock on this occasion IMO. The article actually says he's lost a stone in the Summer.

He's turned down clubs to actually fight for his place. In a similar situation to Adams, he didn't have the best of times last season and beyond yet during pre-season he's got his head. Enough for NP to re-consider him and it's probably his last chance.

Now if only the likes of DJ would make a statement of intent....

I loved watching the Championship every Sunday and see him playing for who ever making a massive mistake and blaming everyone!

Always reminds me of a young Rab Douglas, who was shit as well.

Hes got communication, very loud.

OK well his organization is terrible. He may talk but it never seems to help team mates. Put him in goal and our defence (or previous defences) becomes vulnerable.

Really? I can't think of any time this has happened. The guy was younger then 22 then, not a lot of experiance. Don't get me wrong they guy isn't a number one, I just think its fair play he wants to stay at the highest level he can. Ive seen him play in younger sides and been very dominant and a very vocal person between the sticks. Could here him well at Chesterfield in fact when coming out of goal the guy will only improve.

A poor communicater to me is one that is quiet, rarely speaks to the defense you could say a goalkeeper that dosent speak English. Someone that is confident, load and experianced for me is a good communicater. You need to be loud so that the rest of the team heres one voice and leads the team through the defence.

Fair play to Logan and I have always been one who has rated. He impressed me massively when he broke through and if he can play like that then I have no doubt that he will be suitable backup. And whoever said that he needs to sort his kicking out, I reckon his kicking is fine.

Best thing he ever did.

No it's not, Campbell could still walk.

:yesyes:

He could have "accidentally" stamped on the player as he lay on the floor, just to make sure that the job was done.
